Nintendo Strikes Down Switch Homebrew Project and Android Emulator

Nintendo struck down the Lockpick homebrew project that many users note is, ironically, the only legal way to emulate Switch games. Meanwhile, Nintendo's actions have already scared the developers of Skyline, an Android Switch emulator, into shutting down development to avoid any potential legal issues. However, PC's Ryujinx isn't shutting down.

That is a shame Skyline was being developed so fast that we already had many Switch games playable on phones. With a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 even BOTW was already running at almost fixed 30fps and the much weaker SD 840 was enough for the more light games— even Pokemon was running well on those.

XbladeTeddy1089d ago

Yeah but devs didn't make them games as free to play.

Vits1089d ago

Literally, nothing stopping you from buying the games. Hell, the tool that Nintendo went after only works if you have the real games and the real hardware.

XbladeTeddy1089d ago

Yeah, but they enable you to dumb the keys, which in turn can be shared.

XiNatsuDragnel1090d ago

Shame nintendo somebody will come along and reattempt the process nintendo idek if you have legal grounds here.

NecrumOddBoy1090d ago

Nintendo doesn’t play around but their legal team feels aggressively anti-Nintendo fan.

Nintendo is just protecting there brand etc like I wouldnt call them evil as one of those other articles but still they really are being aggressive like ultra plus aggressive. We don't see sony or ms trying to take roms off the internet etc. Only thing I've see and say I've seen was simply patching up there consoles from being hacked.

Furesis1089d ago

This is a little different since switch is currently the active console and the emulators work better than the switch console at times so now there is less of a reason to buy a switch for some. For playstation there is no emulator for ps5 or 4 for that matter to cut in on those console sales etc. Old roms aren't that big of a deal since there is barely any money to be made there.

When it comes to piracy, then I won hundred cent agree that Nintendo should be able to protect their assets. But these guys go after fan made content, streamers, who promote Nintendo products, and artist that just enjoy creating additional fiction and Lore.

If Nintendo is not going to release ia new earthbound game, but a really big fan would create another one. Why would Nintendo go after them?

NotoriousWhiz1089d ago

None of this would have happened if tears of the kingdom wasn't ripped before release.

Theft is theft.

You can rationalize anything to yourself but it doesn’t change what it actually is.

Armyofdarkness1090d ago

Put the cart in the switch, there you go.

XbladeTeddy1089d ago

Thanks for your wisdom Gandhi.

Agent751089d ago

I don't care about Nintendo consoles now. I couldn't care less who makes what console. Just go multi format and sell 50+ million Mario Kart games.

Agent751089d ago

Still, I don't understand the point of Nintendo consoles. As with every company that's out there, Nintendo are in it for the money. More money made making their games available on all formats, including PC, mobiles, tablets and laptops. I have a Switch that's constantly docked, so how about a plug in console that takes cards? I don't want to play games on a small screen.

30fps sucks. Especially on an OLED.
