Studio had anywhere from 11 to 19 people working there. Surprised to learn they were an extremely small studio. Hope they can land on their feet. Interested to find out what happened in the following weeks.

Even it was a very small internal studio, they have developed Concrete Genie!

This is really sad news to hear. I really enjoyed Concrete Genie and was looking forward to their next game.

Sad news to hear, I loved Concrete Genie (and it's also VR-compatible).
But what message does this send about trying to create new IP or a smaller project?

jznrpg1109d ago

That we need others to buy smaller games. I bought it it was pretty good fun with my kids. But any company wants games to be somewhat profitable

That not everything works out all the time. What message are you thinking it says? I mean small business don’t always work neither.

Nacho_Z1109d ago

Exactly right, some indies strike gold and some don't. It depends on quality same as it does for big budget games.

Just off the top of my head Hollow Knight, Dead Cells and Hades were all new IP indie games which smashed it because they were great. I don't think Concrete Genie was ever in that league.

Petebloodyonion1109d ago

that It sends the message: let's not try something new and let's rehash what's working because it's a safe bet.
Unfortunately, there's never a guarantee that you will hit gold with a new concept the why it's important for big companies to support them.

Concrete Genie was a Great Game and once was on PS plus at one point was which was how most people played it Sad to hear Sony closed them.

Cant blame Sony for gamers not supporting a great game, we moan at rinse and repeat games then dont support kid friendly games like this or "lost in random" fantastic but sold poorly or "sackboy" which was another great game with poor sales.

TiredGamer1109d ago

The consumer as whole gets what they ask for, ultimately. Sadly, that's majority mob rule for you.

IamTylerDurden11109d ago (Edited 1109d ago )

You can blame both. Old Sony said the big games covered the small ones and they enjoyed diversity. Yet, i understand a game must make money and obviously not enough fans supported PO or JP Studios games.

It's on both. I bought Genie, SotC, Knack (both) day 1 but many did not. Part of it is indeed on the gamer. They dictate business through commerce. Sad. But buy another copy of GTA, CoD, and Elden folks! Buy another skin in Fortnite. You steer the direction of the industry. More MTX and GaaS ftw.........

30fps sucks. Especially on an OLED.
