FromSoftware Is Developing Multiple Projects; Hopes To Release Games In Short Periods

Armored Core 6 producer Yasuhiro Kitao said many games are in development; the studio hopes to release them at frequent intervals.

blackblades1114d ago (Edited 1114d ago )

I wouldnt say the goats, they still using old engine from ps3 era I think. Which why there games has performance issues etc themselves. Multiple games might make it worse

XiNatsuDragnel1114d ago

Fair but from software make quality games unlike others

Bobertt1114d ago (Edited 1114d ago )

I never had any issues with their games. Graphically they may not be the best but all of their games i have played are fun which is more important. They aren't a bug fest like Bethesda that sometimes need modders to fix their games after launch.

CrimsonWing691114d ago

They’re good, but the best of all developers?

Bobertt1114d ago (Edited 1114d ago )

Who would you put as the best developer?

CrimsonWing691114d ago

@Bobertt

When I think of the best devs things like Naughty Dog, Rockstar, and Insomniac come to mind.

I'm not trying to rag on FromSoft.

I love their games, but let's be real, where was everyone before Demon's Souls came into the picture? Miyazaki turned the company around in my books, but I've been with this company since the PS1 days and while I love a lot of their games, aside from the Souls-like series, I haven't thought of them as like the best developers over all developers. Have you played Enchanted Arms?

IamTylerDurden11115d ago (Edited 1115d ago )

More jank quality then. Dudes sell 10-20m units on some games and still have AA quality. Brilliant developers but always the same flaws. Technical issues, hit boxes, visual quality, NPC quality (AI, lip synching), and while the lore is fantastic and there is an element where stitching together the story is interesting, they always lack coherence and are always messy and lacking narrative direction. You often must use reddit to figure wtf is going on, which can be fun but a touch more direction and few cutscenes would be interesting nice at times. Unless i'm wrong and ppl will tell me Bloodborne, Demon's Souls, ER, DS have clear and easy to follow narratives?

You do AAA numbers, how about AAA polish? Ppl act like ER is perfect. Damn near scored perfect. Yet it would've been better with more production quality and polish. That's fact. Same with Team Ninja. Basically every Soulslike is AA. Other than Demon's Souls Re.

-Foxtrot1115d ago

I have to agree with you with the lore stuff, like it's brilliant but because the game doesn't present it well for you in a coherent matter you are usually lost. What good is amazing lore if you scatter it to the winds and make your audience piece things together where even once they are done they still argue over it on places like Reddit about what's actually right.

Even things right down to the names, it can confuse people look at Elden Ring

Mohg, Margit, Margott, Miquella, Malenia, Melina, Marika
Renna, Rennala, Ranni, Radahn, Radagon, Rykard, Rogier,
Godrick, Godfrey, Godwin, Gideon, Goldmask

IamTylerDurden11115d ago (Edited 1115d ago )

But the technical issues bruh? They exist.

But yeah, ppl dress it up as brilliant storytelling and at times it's simply messy and confusing. From was influenced by Shadow of the Colossus and models some narrative elements from that game. However, does anyone say SotC has a brilliant story? Again, cool lore, kinda, but masterful storytelling? Not really.

For those who are smarter than the room and claim From Soft storytelling is brilliant , i ask this. Why then do films and most books waste time developing a clear narrative path? Why aren't they just a bunch of lore you have to piece together? Or has From Software elevated the artform beyond what we formerly perceived as the apex? Like..can you rightly say Dark Souls has a better story than TLOU? No. Because TLOU, narratively, is crafted appropriately.

"What good is amazing lore if you scatter it to the winds and make your audience piece things together where even once they are done they still argue over it on places like Reddit about what's actually right."

So should there only be one true interpretation of the story? Where's the fun in that?

-Foxtrot1114d ago

“ So should there only be one true interpretation of the story? Where's the fun in that?”

Oh come on I didn’t mean it like that, it’s just their games do it to EVERYTHING.

Every single thing in the game is like it’s own mini discussion where fan theories go wild

It’s alright if you have set story lore in place but when your fans are literally at each others throats over almost every thing it just seems silly

It’s nice to have fun discussions and about some open ended things but with games like Elden Ring it’s a lot

enkiduxiv1114d ago

Miyazaki has talked about his approach to storytelling and his core idea is to keep it vague with disconnected details.

He described his experience of reading western fantasy novels in English as a boy. He could never quite grasp what was going on so he had to use his imagination to fill in the blanks.

His goal is to have the player experience a similar feeling of agency when piecing together the lore for themselves. I highly doubt that a new engine would change his approach and I honestly hope it doesn’t. If you want a cinematic fantasy rpg there are plenty of them out there. Let From Software keep doing their weird thing.

Soulslikes aren't really traditional narrative games. You're not meant to figure out everything on your own because it's a community effort and seeking help is often encouraged, not only to understand the story but to progress in the game as well through use of messages. This isn't your generic cinematic game where everything is spoonfed to you via cutscenes.

IamTylerDurden11114d ago

I understand the appeal of filling in the blanks, Returnal did this well, but ffs it had cutscenes, it had enough well placed breadcrumbs to not feel completely lost but rather question what is going on. From Soft isn't even storytelling it's scattered lore.

I'm not asking for a Telltale game but a few more threads to stitch together would be nice. A couple cutscenes? Again, Returnal did this brilliantly and still kept it open for interpretation. Imo Returnal did story better than any From Soft game while adhering to similar principles.

And it's basically every game. No longer a novelty. It's the same thing from DeS 2009 to ER 2022. 13 yrs and 5 games, i didn't play Sekiro enough to know. Some elements to connect it, some coherence, some production. Again, like cutscenes in Returnal which only further pushed the investment and mystery rather than spoiling anything.

I agree with the technical issues, but not sure on the visuals complaints. I prefer more variety of weapons, armors, enemies, dungeons over more rock polygons and that's the part eldenring focused on.

IamTylerDurden11114d ago

No From Soft game has been a technical or graphic standout. To the point where not have met average AAA standards. DS3 did 10m. E Ring will dl 30 million units. It has nothing to do with scale or weapons as that would be attributed more to file size and compression. From has the overhead with current gen to implement better visuals and not change a thing about design other than their engine.

When games do 10-30m copies you can afford to develop better tech. You can have a good looking Soulslike. Look at Demon's Souls. Blue Point given the resources could do the same to ER. Despite the scale.

Bathyj1114d ago

PlayStation needs to front up some cash to get Tenchu made.

phoenixwing1114d ago (Edited 1114d ago )

Agreed. I want it to have a map editor too like the old ones.

Bathyj1114d ago

See if that happened people would complain that PlayStation paid off From Software to keep it off Xbox without realising there was no game to pay off and games like that don't get made unless someone takes that step and makes it happen.

badz1491114d ago

hopefully the quality doesn't suffer

IanTH1114d ago (Edited 1114d ago )

That was my first thought as well. Platinum were doing solid work, and then they tried to do like 40 games at once and their quality suffered for it. So if From thinks they can manage it, cool...just please keep it measured.

And maybe hire a few extra people who have a firm grasp on optimization (and if we're getting really crazy, one or two who understand how to port to PC lol).

Not looking good. Hopefully Asha Sharma is able to turn Phil’s disaster around.

dveio19d ago

To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

Jingsing19d ago

The stock mark is what makes Microsoft remarkable, They have convinced every institutional and retail investor to just keep piling money into them. Like many big tech giants they are just a big growing pyramid scheme. As long as people keep dropping money into ETF's that cover the market Microsoft will always be liquid. At the same time it is completely stifling innovation and competition. People need to start being more discreet in how they invest their money as it's killing the system.

Tanktopmaster9219d ago

Once they re-evaluate exclusive all will be fine….

S2Killinit19d ago

Riiiiight because people will just flock back to them for one or two games per year.

Jingsing19d ago

15+ years of bad performance is what they call irreparable in business. It is time for them to sell off the assets and get out of entertainment.

Tanktopmaster9219d ago

These declines are on the back of extra revenue received from releasing games like Forza horizon 5 on PlayStation. So I’m being sarcastic here when I said they should go back to exclusives. Killing off a revenue stream from Ps5 sales will only make things worse
