Despite Everything, I'm Actually Excited For Redfall

DS: “It’s not been a good look for Redfall, has it? From the announcement that you’ll have to be always online to play the game (which Arkane is trying to fix), to the news that Redfall will be capped at 30 FPS at launch on console, and also a frosty reception to some pre-release footage, it’s easy to be pessimistic about this vampiric romp through Massachusetts.

However, despite everything, I’m still excited about Redfall. As someone whose primary mode of gaming is a PC, I’m not personally bothered by either the always-online requirement or the framerate cap that’s only going to affect Xbox players. I'm not trying to sound exclusionary here; it obviously sucks for some folks, and I sincerely hope Arkane will address these issues in a timely manner post-launch.“

You aren't bothered with nothing... It's all good and amazing. That just show how low the bar is for Microsoft games. Just another generic shooter, incomplete for services, with crappy IA, graphics from last gen, that will be forgotten in what two weeks? After a couple months news will appears saying it floped, but then Microsoft says it was amazing, but less and less gamers are buying games, consoles and services...

But don't worried they will fix the game in the future. When? Don't know. One day, when nobody is playing it, because the game will be already forgotten.

The thought process of same to try and spin the reality is just scary. It's free pass after free pass.

Where are these sub-50 rated games on Xbox?

Christopher1111d ago

Look, I know it's hyper-examined because it's Xbox and people want the God of War/Spider-Man level of stuff out of them, but it sounds like people are really jaded about others enjoying a game that isn't award-winning.

I've got the latest Arkane game pre-loading right now. I plan to enjoy it as much as I can. Is it going to be the bee's knees? Not likely. But I can still enjoy it.

And, in my book, that's fine. Just like I'm certain people enjoyed Forspoken, right? Not ever game is going to be great but we can still enjoy not great games, right?

darkrider1111d ago

I hope that you remember that after some trailers this game was a goty contender...

Christopher1111d ago

I ignore those people just like I ignore the people saying it's a critical failure. The two extremes of Sony vs Microsoft games tend to be things you can just ignore.

IamTylerDurden11111d ago (Edited 1111d ago )

It'll probably hit high 70's min. B4B hit mid and Redfall looks better despite imo looking mediocre. It could hit 81 even. It'll be a fine, dumb game. But disappointing for Arkane as imo Redfall looks less creative and intriguing than Deathloop, Dishonored, and Prey.

Christopher1111d ago

@IamTylerDurden1: I want to play it for myself before I say such a thing you did. But, if it comes out that way, I hope it gives Arkane the power to say "Look, we made great games, let us continue to do that and not have to do these things you wanted us to do because we're not designed for it and our fans don't need it."

@the3faces PS players don't buy games? So why does literally every multi-plat sell higher on PS then?

I'll be playing it on PC gamepass but... since console version doesn't have the 60fps mode at launch, it could be a sign the PC port could also be bad and with all these terrible pc ports that have come out this year lol.

XbladeTeddy1111d ago

Terrible PC ports come out every year. I swear they rely on users to find fixes then implement said fixes into their patches.

I'm buying age of wonders 4 instead. Seems like a better fit for my gaming pc. It looks more interesting to me.

Concord, Suicide Squad, Fairgame$ And ‘Vibes-Based’ Failures

Paul Tassi: "Sony recently reiterated its commitment to live service games with one big hit last year (Helldivers 2), one big cancellation (The Last of Us Factions) and one big failure (Concord). It’s no great surprise it is continuing down this road, given the way the industry is trending and the limited shelf life of its famed single player games. But it immediately made me think of a game that Sony is allegedly releasing that I have to believe is pre-destined to fail, Fairgame$."

Alos88499d ago

Fairgame$ feels like it's destined to flop out the gate- that initial trailer felt full of that same instantly-dated 'fight The Man with a ragtag team of weirdos' energy that was prevalent in Sega's Hyenas (which they wisely cancelled.) Unlike Marathon I just don't see this standing a chance.

Nacho_Z499d ago

It will definitely flop, missed the boat by a couple of years. Agreed that Marathon has a decent chance of succeeding it looks genuinely good and interesting.

It can't be sustainable having all these expensive GaaS being DOA being balanced by the odd modest success like Helldivers. The aim is to find the new Fortnite or whatever but it's highly unlikely and seems to be a massive waste of money.

Concord and the Other Biggest Flops of This Generation

Some of the biggest success stories in the history of gaming have happened during this generation of gaming. At the same time, some of the biggest flops in the history of gaming have also happened during this generation of gaming. To this end, a few games particularly stick out as, unfortunately, disastrous flops for those who made the games, sold the games, and ultimately, for many that played the games.

What a strange, short list. There have been many more games that arrived DOA, were never released, didn’t make their budget back, etc. Why cherry pick these games? Is this list based on the size of internet hate boners?

EternalTitan616d ago

These flops have a similarity that you may not be allowed to point out.

Skull and Bones gets my vote, at this point just completely remake AC Black Flag. If the Concord developers had made the game free to play, and toned down the in your face messaging via the mods and design choices, this game could have been serviceable eventually. I never understand why pandering to 5% of your audience and giving the finger to the other 95% seems like a good idea to these people. They never seem to learn. Disney has lost 1/3rd of its value and they keep doubling down on political messaging. I don’t get it.

BlackTar187616d ago

Some of these companies are paid huge amounts of money to do this stuff. They get truck loads of money to give “the message”
By blackrock and vanguards and multiple other venture capitalists even though it’s been proven over and over they fail.

I'm not interested in this game but i think it's great they added the offline mode for those who are.

darthv72715d ago

It was okay at first... once they added the performance update it was definitely better.

TwoPicklesGood715d ago

Bury this turd. It’s only good as a reminder of what devs shouldn’t do.

mkis007715d ago

I hate the concept of an announced final update.
