Redfall: Where is the Hype?

Things seem a bit quiet about Redfall. That doesn't seem fair. It has a lot to be excited for - but it hasn't seemed to break through.

The problem with Microsoft is that gamers just talk about the abk deals. The hype of this game started dying with ign and died after everyone understand they are launching a game that isn't finished just to put it on gp....

chrisx1113d ago

This game clearly needs like a year delay to be fully complete. I saw that they're even slapping stickers on the CD box warning that 60fps won't be available at launch. It's such an embarrassment really for the Xbox brand. How was this even allowed to happen?

Kurt Russell1113d ago

This is exactly the kind of game I enjoy playing with my friend group.

I don't do 30fps though, so I'll play Dead Island 2 instead

SullysCigar1114d ago

The hype pretty much disappeared over the past few weeks with all the bad press.

First it was finding out they didn't have time to move it to Unreal Engine 5, then it was announced it's always online, then that it's going to be running at 30fps on xbox XS (despite the store listing it as 60fps and all the PC footage we've seen running at 60fps) and most recently we discover that if you play with friends, only one person's xbox records the progression.

It's honestly been a proper crapshow and seriously mismanaged. I'm now half expecting there to be a lack of content, like what happened with Halo Infinite. It's probably the only other thing that could go wrong at this stage.

Lightning771114d ago

"and most recently we discover that if you play with friends, only one person's xbox records the progression."

This wasn't a recent discovery. This was announced awhile ago. Hell N4G even posted that news

Even you commented on it. Did you forget or something?

The other story is duplicate.

Most people who play Redfall won't be aware of the recent news and many simply won't care.

Really sad people are so desperate for games to fail, goes to show there's sad people out their who have so little empathy and stuff going for them in their lives they couldn't care less about the industry or the people in it and just want to root for their team and hope for everyone else to fail.

SullysCigar1113d ago

Lo how on Earth do you equate the problems in this game to some kind of reflection of my life - is that not a stretch too far? Lol I've heard it all now. How about a rebuttal to the points in my comment, where I'm talking about the game to which this article relates, instead of projecting your own insecurities?

I'd be happy to hear you try tell me where anything I've said here is not true, not an issue or is somehow a positive for Redfall and I'm missing the point. So let's hear it. This'll be good, seeing as all of my points are from official sources and have been corroborated by the developers themselves...

Lightning771112d ago

"Lo how on Earth do you equate the problems in this game to some kind of reflection of my life - is that not a stretch too far? Lol I've heard it all now."

Any sorta negative news about the game you run to it like a moth to a light from the beginning so I dunno you tell me? We're you like this when Wo Long, Jedi Survivor, Atomic Heart had technical issues? Redfalls a special case, gee I wonder why that is...

"How about a rebuttal to the points in my comment, where I'm talking about the game to which this article relates, instead of projecting your own insecurities?"

Funny you're the one exasperating and severely over exaggerating unfavorable news but yet I'm the on one that's insecure sure kid.. Sure

"First it was finding out they didn't have time to move it to Unreal Engine 5, then it was announced it's always online, then that it's going to be running at 30fps on xbox X'S"

No Unreal Engine 5. That's sucks they should re-confimed awhile ago instead of running with it. Always Online DRM IMO sucks the most because they can take the game offline for whatever reason for several hours at a time. Frames sucks and you can definitely feel a difference between 30 and 60. Is it game breaking? No in fact I hope the game is polished as much as possible at launch. But 30 frames is off putting definitely.

I already mentioned the bad news Awhile ago yet here we are doing it again for some reason. Yeah it was all confirmed all of your "negative points" was all over the news cycle for awhile so what's your point? Oh my bad am I suppose to over exaggerate every single thing to no need none stop with all the doom and all the gloom because now Redfall will get shut down because of the frames, the DRM it's not unreal engine 5 host only progression (despite the fact most games like Redfall has host progression only ) it's all over for the studio now they might as well pack up and leave forever.

There you go that's more your style now your happy right?

there was never hype to begin with only delusion existed imo.

blackblades1113d ago

Right I think in the beginning people seen issues with it or something. Forgot what was it about I think it was another 4 player/character online game or something idk.

isarai1113d ago (Edited 1113d ago )

The marketing had a serious identity crisis with this game, it didn't know if it wanted to be a child friendly, punky, DreamWorks style experience, or a serious thriller with a rich lore and scary world. And honestly it still doesn't seem to really stick the landing on anything to make it stand out much.
I would say at least it looks fun, but the host only progression for a co-op centric game is an instant deal breaker. Funny how we just Dead Island 2 which not only runs at 60fos, but also carries progression for everyone no problem. Yet a 1st party game with MSs "deep pockets" can't even manage either

GotGame8181113d ago

Hoping for the best, and expecting the worst. I will probably wait to play until the 60fps patch comes out.

kingnick1113d ago

Sadly this is probably the best mindset to have with current gen gaming, even a game is sound technically there's been so many ho-hum experiences like said game was designed via spreadsheet completely forgetting that games are supposed to be fun.

That's one area where Nintendo still rule, they're good at making games that aren't frustrating to give the illusion of difficulty.

Bathyj1113d ago

The hype is in direct proportion to the perceived quality of the game.

kingnick1113d ago

What rubbish. Many games have been hyped to hell and been mediocre to garbage tier like Forspoken and Halo Infinite at launch.

MIDGETonSTILTS171112d ago

Halo and Forspoken LOOKED good, but the shallowness of their respective content wasn't readily visible from their trailers.

Redfall might be a very fun game, but we’re all just SEEING easily scalable graphics for a cartoony game aimed at a 17+ audience.

SICKINDIVIDUAL1112d ago

Forspoken is a great game... you should try it.

-Foxtrot1112d ago

@SICKINDIVIDUAL

People did with the demo and it still sucked

Concord, Suicide Squad, Fairgame$ And ‘Vibes-Based’ Failures

Paul Tassi: "Sony recently reiterated its commitment to live service games with one big hit last year (Helldivers 2), one big cancellation (The Last of Us Factions) and one big failure (Concord). It’s no great surprise it is continuing down this road, given the way the industry is trending and the limited shelf life of its famed single player games. But it immediately made me think of a game that Sony is allegedly releasing that I have to believe is pre-destined to fail, Fairgame$."

Alos88497d ago

Fairgame$ feels like it's destined to flop out the gate- that initial trailer felt full of that same instantly-dated 'fight The Man with a ragtag team of weirdos' energy that was prevalent in Sega's Hyenas (which they wisely cancelled.) Unlike Marathon I just don't see this standing a chance.

Nacho_Z497d ago

It will definitely flop, missed the boat by a couple of years. Agreed that Marathon has a decent chance of succeeding it looks genuinely good and interesting.

It can't be sustainable having all these expensive GaaS being DOA being balanced by the odd modest success like Helldivers. The aim is to find the new Fortnite or whatever but it's highly unlikely and seems to be a massive waste of money.

Concord and the Other Biggest Flops of This Generation

Some of the biggest success stories in the history of gaming have happened during this generation of gaming. At the same time, some of the biggest flops in the history of gaming have also happened during this generation of gaming. To this end, a few games particularly stick out as, unfortunately, disastrous flops for those who made the games, sold the games, and ultimately, for many that played the games.

What a strange, short list. There have been many more games that arrived DOA, were never released, didn’t make their budget back, etc. Why cherry pick these games? Is this list based on the size of internet hate boners?

EternalTitan614d ago

These flops have a similarity that you may not be allowed to point out.

Skull and Bones gets my vote, at this point just completely remake AC Black Flag. If the Concord developers had made the game free to play, and toned down the in your face messaging via the mods and design choices, this game could have been serviceable eventually. I never understand why pandering to 5% of your audience and giving the finger to the other 95% seems like a good idea to these people. They never seem to learn. Disney has lost 1/3rd of its value and they keep doubling down on political messaging. I don’t get it.

BlackTar187614d ago

Some of these companies are paid huge amounts of money to do this stuff. They get truck loads of money to give “the message”
By blackrock and vanguards and multiple other venture capitalists even though it’s been proven over and over they fail.

I'm not interested in this game but i think it's great they added the offline mode for those who are.

darthv72713d ago

It was okay at first... once they added the performance update it was definitely better.

TwoPicklesGood714d ago

Bury this turd. It’s only good as a reminder of what devs shouldn’t do.

mkis007713d ago

I hate the concept of an announced final update.
