Redfall Is Continuing a Worrying Gaming Trend

Redfall's latest announcement has divided its fanbase further as it seems the game is following a disappointing gaming trend.

SullysCigar1119d ago

It's not finished, but they're releasing it anyway. Just like they did with Halo Infinite.

BandarHub1118d ago

What was unfinished about Halo Infinite.
Had the longest campaign and had multiplayer. Most games do even do both. How is that incomplete.
Split screen....don't get me started.

SullysCigar1118d ago

So you're asking me how was Halo Infinite unfinished at launch? For real?? LMAO

Vengeance11381118d ago

That's your idea of a finished product? Holy hell.

Co-op and Forge mode say hi, oh wait they can't cause they're missing lol

Tacoboto1118d ago

The longest campaign, in one biome representative of 343's own backyard (so much research!)
"Had multiplayer"... sure, if you count having less features and playlists than Halo 2 an accomplishment.

Don't get you started on split screen because that alone proves Halo Infinite will forever remain unfinished relative to the promises 343 made about it and the entire franchise before they even made that fake engine trailer.

-Foxtrot1118d ago

Long campaign? Oh o course because it added a repetitive gameplay loop which made up for the fact it had development problems and was unfinished.

shinoff21831118d ago (Edited 1118d ago )

If it was said to have split screen and it didn't yes that would be incomplete. Idk

It's definitely widely reported to have been incomplete. Haven't ms or the devs came out and said as much by apologizing or something like that

notachance1118d ago

come on man, I don't know if you're just a fanboy or got paid but if your way of defending them is this kind of blind statement you're just making them look worse.

Kornholic1118d ago

Why did you create a new account, Orchard?

What about forespoken? And like I said, an inane comment on EVERY article. Seems like you're afraid of the acquisiton and gamepass...if it wasn't a threat then why are you always commenting?

And again if redfall was multiplatform or a PS exclusive you wouldn't even be criticizing it. Just like if PS was doing the acquisition you wouldn't have an issue with it.

andy851118d ago (Edited 1118d ago )

Forspoken arguably was finished. There was no features to add after release. It just reviewed poorly. Doesn't mean it wasn't finished. And you think no one would be criticising it if it was on PS? Didn't you see the criticism of A Plague Tale because it was at 30? And that wasn't even an FPS.

EvertonFC1118d ago

If it was on playstation also, it would still be an unfinished rinse and repeat co/op shooter, have 1 to 3 months worth of legs before being dropped like a bomb before the nxt rinse and repeat co/op shooter comes along.

SullysCigar1118d ago

What about whataboutisms?? Forespoken has bugger all to do with Redfall.

Why you so mean to me, dude? It hurts.

shinoff21831118d ago

Fact is most are made cause they still will have to pay for it.

FinalFantasyFanatic1118d ago

Why must you people continuously bring up Forespoken? Even the Playstation fans condemned that one, it was almost universally panned, it just wasn't a good game.

Terrible attempt at a deflect with that comment.

Christopher1117d ago

That's an unfair comparison. It's missing a performance mode, not like they planned various modes and then released without them. Yeah, it's not "optimal" but it's not releasing "unfinished" as far as gameplay, story, etc. go.

This game is releasing a few days after Star Wars Jedi survivor and a week after Zelda Tears of the Kingdom? Does Microsoft and Bethesda won't this game to fail 🤔

gangsta_red1118d ago

Lame article, absolutely nothing is new here and has been stated before time and time again.

Best part is at the end the author says to still give Redfall a chance, just cementing that this was nothing more than a click bait article.

thesoftware7301118d ago

This again?

And the same exact comments flowing again.

This was announced long ago in a diary.

Concord, Suicide Squad, Fairgame$ And ‘Vibes-Based’ Failures

Paul Tassi: "Sony recently reiterated its commitment to live service games with one big hit last year (Helldivers 2), one big cancellation (The Last of Us Factions) and one big failure (Concord). It’s no great surprise it is continuing down this road, given the way the industry is trending and the limited shelf life of its famed single player games. But it immediately made me think of a game that Sony is allegedly releasing that I have to believe is pre-destined to fail, Fairgame$."

Alos88501d ago

Fairgame$ feels like it's destined to flop out the gate- that initial trailer felt full of that same instantly-dated 'fight The Man with a ragtag team of weirdos' energy that was prevalent in Sega's Hyenas (which they wisely cancelled.) Unlike Marathon I just don't see this standing a chance.

Nacho_Z501d ago

It will definitely flop, missed the boat by a couple of years. Agreed that Marathon has a decent chance of succeeding it looks genuinely good and interesting.

It can't be sustainable having all these expensive GaaS being DOA being balanced by the odd modest success like Helldivers. The aim is to find the new Fortnite or whatever but it's highly unlikely and seems to be a massive waste of money.

Concord and the Other Biggest Flops of This Generation

Some of the biggest success stories in the history of gaming have happened during this generation of gaming. At the same time, some of the biggest flops in the history of gaming have also happened during this generation of gaming. To this end, a few games particularly stick out as, unfortunately, disastrous flops for those who made the games, sold the games, and ultimately, for many that played the games.

What a strange, short list. There have been many more games that arrived DOA, were never released, didn’t make their budget back, etc. Why cherry pick these games? Is this list based on the size of internet hate boners?

EternalTitan618d ago

These flops have a similarity that you may not be allowed to point out.

Skull and Bones gets my vote, at this point just completely remake AC Black Flag. If the Concord developers had made the game free to play, and toned down the in your face messaging via the mods and design choices, this game could have been serviceable eventually. I never understand why pandering to 5% of your audience and giving the finger to the other 95% seems like a good idea to these people. They never seem to learn. Disney has lost 1/3rd of its value and they keep doubling down on political messaging. I don’t get it.

BlackTar187618d ago

Some of these companies are paid huge amounts of money to do this stuff. They get truck loads of money to give “the message”
By blackrock and vanguards and multiple other venture capitalists even though it’s been proven over and over they fail.

I'm not interested in this game but i think it's great they added the offline mode for those who are.

darthv72717d ago

It was okay at first... once they added the performance update it was definitely better.

TwoPicklesGood718d ago

Bury this turd. It’s only good as a reminder of what devs shouldn’t do.

mkis007717d ago

I hate the concept of an announced final update.
