The Case For a Code Veronica Remake

From GameWatcher: "It's almost traditional now. When a Resident Evil remake comes out, there's an almost instant clamor for another.

Resident Evil 2 finally got the remake treatment 17 years after its predecessor had its own rebirth. A divisive remake of Resident Evil 3 quickly followed, barely allowing fans time to demand it in the first place.

We had to wait a little longer for the Resident Evil 4 Remake, and now the cycle of demand and waiting has started once again. In fact, people didn't even wait for Resident Evil 4 to launch before debating what should be the next game in the series."

If there is CV remake I hope it will be only on current hardware generation and developed by updated RE engine for current generation and of course with out series s copy if possible

umair_s511118d ago

I think they should drop ps5 too and focus on high end pc gaming and series x. Why struggle with checkerboard 4k.

on_line_forever1118d ago (Edited 1118d ago )

If they drop ps5 how the game sells well ?!
I don't care about console war I just want this game have great remake and I want to know what they will do with Steve story (we are talking about remake here ) ?

LucasRuinedChildhood1118d ago (Edited 1118d ago )

The Series X version of RE4 has:
- a significantly worse framerate: https://youtu.be/x88molgdmc...
- deadzone issues (poor controls): https://youtu.be/x88molgdmc...

In terms of gameplay, the Xbox version is currently the worst way to play the game.

But saying "I think they should drop Series X. Why struggle with poor framerates and controls?" would be dumb.

Just like the PS5 version, the problems with the port are not the fault of the hardware. The game has released a bit premature and needs some fixes.

ocelot071118d ago

So focus on the 8 people with a 4090 and a couple mill series x owners lol. Why not just put it on gamepass while your at it haha.

anast1118d ago

Series X is nothing close to a high end PC.

TheEnigma3131118d ago

Lol too bad. Their bread and butter is on PS.

Exvalos1118d ago

You sir win dumb comment of the month award congrats on your prize.

RedDevils1118d ago (Edited 1118d ago )

Dropping Series X is a better idea, those losers doesn't buy games.

Army_of_Darkness1118d ago (Edited 1118d ago )

@umair

Most of the resident evil fans/ sales are on playstation, so unless you actually want Capcom to go under, I would re-evaluate that concept.

@andrew

Got who exactly? Series X and ps5 versions are nearly identical bro. 😏 Hell, ps5 versions sometimes even outperforms the series X.

On topic, code Veronica would be awesome if it was well remade like the current RE4.

GAMEnjoy_1118d ago

Yes of course! Because everyone can afford a highend PC with RTX4090.. Move on

BlaqMagiq11118d ago

Funny Series X struggled with checkerboard 4k on RE4 Remake. Guess they should drop Series X too.

EvertonFC1118d ago

Funny how 99% of gamers cant tell the difference between 4k and CB 4k.
CB 4k looks fantastic and frees up resources for other tasks, hence the awesome AAA 1st party playstation games.

umair_s511117d ago (Edited 1117d ago )

Of course the truth hurts. PS5 can do checkerboard rendering just fine.

P_Bomb1118d ago

They gotta do it. For posterity. There’s some crucial Chris Redfield vs Albert Wesker in there.

goldwyncq1118d ago

They need to remake this, then do RE5 afterwards which ties up the conflict against Wesker.

P_Bomb1118d ago

It’d be nice to have the whole Wesker storyline front to back. Counting the RE1 remake we already have.

neutralgamer19921118d ago

Code Veronica Remake is given with how thing have went but it also requires the most amount of work to be remade not only gameplay but story too

P_Bomb

don't be surprised if there is a complete RE1 remake (again)

purple1011118d ago

This 1st released on Dreamcast. Some say it was the best or joint best resi ever.

kingnick1118d ago

Code Veronica is a different experience from other classic fixed camera angle Resident Evils. I enjoyed the game and it's sometimes nonsensical characters and settings but I can see while some people do not and consider it an inferior RE side story and not a mainline title.

I don't think the game would translate well to a third person over the should camera without majors changes and then it wouldn't be the same game.

babadivad1118d ago (Edited 1118d ago )

Code Veronica is the actual mainline continuation of the RE story and drives the plot forward. RE3 is literally a side story created for contractual obligations.

kingnick1118d ago

I'm well aware that CV was meant to be RE3 but it wasn't perceived as such by the wider RE community in part because it was not on the PS1 while what became RE3 was. It didn't help that the game was released for the short lived Dreamcast and was exclusive for a time which annoyed me and many other RE fans.

TricksterArrow1117d ago

@babadivad Common misconception. It was already stated that RE3 was always supposed to be RE3 and CODE: Veronica a new project, hence why it's so different narratively. A lot of it was outsourced from Capcom. You might be confusing this because RE3 actually used a lot of ideas from scratched spin-offs. But yeah, the follow-up to 2 was always inteded to be the fall and bombing of Raccoon City.

Ninver1117d ago

Played it on ps2. So many great memories. This is one of my favorite RE games to ever grace the medium.

BandarHub1118d ago

Deserves a remake. The real resident evil 3

Unknown_Gamer57941118d ago

Actually, you’re not far off. CV was actually in development first iirc, and was originally going to be RE3, with the 3 we got originally going to have a subtitle name. As we all know, that’s not actually how things worked out, but I do believe CV was originally intended to be RE3.

Pyrofire951118d ago

Yeah. I'm pretty sure that's what BandarHub was referring to.

Becuzisaid1118d ago

Yes bc Sony had Capcom on contract to have RE1,2,3 on the PlayStation, so Capcom had to pump out RE3 when they originally planned for CV to be the true RE3.

kingnick1118d ago

If the do a VC remake I hope they don't cut the game down like they did with RE3 Remake.

Pyrofire951118d ago

It has been in the back of my mind too. I don't know much about it but heard it's essentially the real RE3 but promises were made and names were changed. I hope they do. I'm not sure if they really want to revisit RE5 or 6 so I think it's likely enough.

Great news, everything aligns to have another brilliant remake.

lucasnooker25d ago

I’m glad the best games of the franchise also got the best remakes

Ninver25d ago (Edited 25d ago )

Bout damn time. Day 1 no question. It's my favorite RE along side RE4.

Levii_9225d ago

People still believe the remake of this game is coming? Why.. why the hell would Capcom remake a bad niche RE game that most people don't even know exists when they can remake a very popular RE5 or hell even RE1..

SIdepocket24d ago

RE3 was the niche game. CV was epic… could have easily been a mainline entry.

Jolska42024d ago

How about making original games for a change. Now one likes those any more i guess...

VersusDMC24d ago

I could see this argument for the MGS3 or maybe RE4 remake but the fixed camera game remakes (RE2/3) are basically different games.

Nailrat24d ago

Last I checked they just put out a new one. You can't make a new game with the size of teams they use on the remakes. That's often something companies have new teams do while writers and concept artists are working on a new game because you don't need writers and concept artists etc for a remake

Nitrowolf224d ago

Capcom just released RE9
On top of that, they also released a new IP like last year, and now have a new IP, pragmata, coming next month

shinXseijuro24d ago

Be real with yourself . They’ve remade all the mainline games up to 4 . Zero , V , 5 are getting remastered next .

ActualWhiteMan24d ago

Damn I would love a 5 remake.

-Foxtrot24d ago

I’d only give a s*** about RE5 if they let us play solo and co-op is drop in drop out….or he’ll remove it completely and save it for Mercenaries

CV was better in my opinion

shinXseijuro24d ago (Edited 24d ago )

I have no issue with RE5 support character . It makes things different . Maybe in the remake they can make the game a bit more survival focused and less action oriented . That could help up the tension a bit . I have to agree that some parts could’ve been scarier if you did not have an ally with you or if the ressources were scarcer , Other than that , I love that game . It’s not the scariest but it’s not the worst. There’s so many great mechanics from that game that are found in later RE games like being able to shoot down an electrical distribution transformer and stunt combo a zombie etc . Those were very impressive and fun to do at the time . If you were a good player you could do some sick combos .

Dexterio24d ago

Why would they remake a remake i.e RE1?

meganick24d ago

What a silly comment. Code Veronica is not niche. I’m sure most RE fans are well aware of its existence, and it’s well liked by most fans. CV started development as the real Resident Evil 3, and Nemesis was originally just a side story, but Sony pitched a fit about RE3 CV releasing on Dreamcast instead of PlayStation, so Capcom was pressured into making Nemesis the third official RE. So remaking CV makes a lot of sense since it advances the storyline of the RE series, unlike Nemesis, which didn’t advance the storyline at all and was obviously just a side story companion to RE2.

Shane Kim24d ago

I've heard it will be very different from the original one.

I wonder how are they going to tackle this one. This is where the series started to get cheesy and sometimes unintentionaly so. They will have to fix a lot in terms of a story.

Putte82d ago

One of the worst Resident Evil games. Stupid.

shinXseijuro82d ago

Grow the hell up . Code Veronica was the first resident evil game I bought with money I had saved up as a kid on Dreamcast . It was my first real resident evil game I have great memories with the game . I’ll be buying the remake because I’m old enough to understand what I’m doing when playing the game .

Shane Kim82d ago (Edited 82d ago )

While not the best one, this is the last classic one until they started going downhills imo.

On another note, why not RE1 remake?

shinXseijuro57d ago

Sorry for the Late reply but I feel like the RE1 remake is unnecessary because it’s been remade remastered already from the first version we had . People want something new and fresh which Code Veronica would bring . Even a ReZero remake would be more interesting to me . Resident evil 1 HD remaster for ps4 still holds up I think . Pretty good game

Cacabunga81d ago

The best and most impressive RE ever!
If you were more than 20 years old you would understand. Maybe it’ the game is too difficult for you.
This game took Dreamcast by storm. One of my most memorable gaming moments. RE in 3D was a slap in everyone’s face.

Puty81d ago

I am older than 20. I also prefer tank controls and fixed cameras.
No, the game was not difficult.
It got riddiculous while still taking itself super seriously. Starting from the very beginning where in bombastic opening Claire runs away from bullets.

Shane Kim81d ago

Well I'm 38, so I don't know what that har to do with anything.

Zeldafan6481d ago (Edited 81d ago )

Hope this is true. I'll gladly replay this game with maybe some new content.

I mean 0, 1 and Code Veronica should be way before we get into 5 or 6.

Darkseeker87d ago

5 and 6 are so bad that even Capcom want to pretend they don't exist.

Levii_9287d ago

Dude Code Veronica is bad too but RE5 and 6 were mega successful and to me it makes much more sense for Capcom to do them instead. Nobody cares about Code Veronica except niche fixed camera era RE fans, i bet most modern RE fans probably don't know Code Veronica even exists. Based on all that i don't believe CV remake is coming but we will see i guess.

MehmetAlperTR87d ago (Edited 87d ago )

Actually RE5-6 was not Classic RE game.. They are not even Survival Horror game.. They are just an action game with coop and named by RE... And for me RE Code Veronica was masterpiece.. I remembered the first time i played it in Dreamcast.. It was absouletly excellent game. And specially for RE6.. I was quit from game after the camera shakes when Leon's kick to zombies.. There's a video about RE6 and they are telling the truth about that shitty game https://www.youtube.com/wat... here it is.. Enjoy it..

Neonridr87d ago

people are DYING for a Code Veronica Remake. Not sure who you are talking to, but the die-hard RE fans of the series are very familiar with every entry. That's what it means to be called a die-hard fan.

neutralgamer199287d ago

Levii

I am sure If they were to remake CV that it 2ont have fixed camera angle. I hope whatever they do they take their time like RE2/4 remakes and not rushed with cut content like RE3 remake

Before they should do RE5 they should go back and remake earlier games. In a perfect scenario we would get CV and RE/Zero before RE5/6

Tapani87d ago

Code Veronica on Dreamcast was absolutely AWESOME.

+ Show (2) more repliesLast reply 87d ago
LucasRuinedChildhood87d ago (Edited 87d ago )

It makes more sense for them to remake earlier games like Code Veronica. RE5 is a good game though - it's not THAT different from RE4.

RE5 just doesn't really need to remade in general. The co-op element makes it tricky - you'd probably add more moments where Chris is by himself enhance the horror but some would want co-op to stay.

thesoftware73087d ago

RE:5 Was and still is a great game, with hands down the best Merc mode, that I still play from time to time with my brother.

RE:6 blah, I agree, it was awful.

Redgrave87d ago

Other than Code Veronica, 6 is the one ai want to see remade the most only because pretty much everything has to be redone; can't streamline that hot mess.

DarXyde87d ago

6 was pretty bad. 5 just tried too hard in being an action-oriented RE4.

In some fairness to Capcom, 5 was the first Resident Evil on then-new hardware for them (X360 and PS3). And it was pretty damn hard to follow up RE4.

Imagine everyone's surprise when EA of all companies dropped Dead Space.

Alos8887d ago

The first half of 5 wouldn't be too hard to do in the more grounded style the remakes have gone for, but the second half gets pretty silly and uncomfortable at parts.
6 is a wash. You'd have to basically make a whole new game to salvage that one at this point.

__y2jb87d ago

6 is garbage. 5 is excellent.

Hopefully if and when they do a RE5 remake, they give it the RE3 remake treatment, because this is certainly one title that I don't want a faithful remake of.
