PS5 update streamlines digital and physical game versions

The latest system update for PlayStation 5 has added a slight change which makes it easier to play the digital version of a game if you own the disc, and vice versa.

finally... this is one of the best features on xb and I'm so glad ps has it too. first time i experienced it on xbo with quantum break. I installed the game from disc and then one day i saw its icon on my dash saying gamepass. so i clicked on it and it started playing... without needing the disc. Now obviously if the game is removed from GP then I'd have to use the disc to play but that was cool.

So glad this is being fixed on PS. If I no longer subscribe to PS+ it is nice to know my disc versions would still work without having to reinstall.

This site can be wack sometimes. Why 10 disagrees? What even is there to disagree with?

kingnick1092d ago

It was interpreted as an anti PS/Sony comment so the fanbois just downvote, it really doesn't matter if the comment has merit or not.

CS71092d ago

Anything on this site that even has a slight positive sentiment to xbox (or slightly negative sentiment to Sony) gets downvoted. Its so weird.

Sony is clearly superior but it makes it exhausting when you wish to discuss any gaming matters in a mature manner.

I agree, whenever someone says something i agree with I give it to them. Ive agreed with ochard, obscure, I just give them their due when I agree

It happens both ways dont be silly, theres just more sony fans here so it sticks out, The xbox fans arent innocent. I get what your trying to say though

It's a logical feature, but kinda pointless... You play from a disc, or you play it digital.

When will you have a disc of a game, and than buy that game digital again?
Or you have bought a digital game, and now miraculously you end up with that game on the disc?

MatrixxGT1092d ago

Well if I have the disc version of horizon forbidden west and then that game gets added to ps+ I can then redeem it and no longer have to swap discs if I decide to boot it up. Plenty of scenarios for this but it’s not a shout from rooftop sorta thing.

isarai1092d ago

Exactly this, just keeps me from having to swap discs, and doesnt cost me anything extra. Actually been around for over 3 months tho

kingnick1092d ago

Just a nice quality of life thing and they're always nice when free.

shinoff21831092d ago

Agreed. Now if I installed the diec and was able to load up any game I installed that would be dope. Either way im literally 5 to 6 feet from my ps so its no huge deal.

EvertonFC1092d ago (Edited 1092d ago )

You miss the whole point and how can it be both logical and pointless at the same time 🤣😂

Stanjara1092d ago

Its's logical if you have the game and all the patches installed that you don't have to install or download the data again if you change from physical to digital format.

It's not logical that you will buy a digital game again if you have a physical version or vice versa.

Yeah PS plus... ok.

It is a feature I guess.

isarai1092d ago

This was actually added months ago in their last big update that changed the "Explore' section

boing11092d ago (Edited 1092d ago )

A bit late to the party, everybody. That is months old.

frostypants1092d ago

This is nice. Really wish they'd streamline the overall UI though. Even though we've all figured it out, it still feels sloppy and unintuitive compared to the PS4. Also, when will we get wallpaper back?
