Hogwarts Legacy Passes 40 Million Units Sold

This is interesting considering they canned the planned DLC and Netflix said they did not even consider the gaming division an asset when evaluating the company.

I really enjoyed this game and I got the Plat

Remember all the websites that tried to cancel the game? It triggered the games media so much many refused to review it (Eurogamer + many more), or they they low-scored the game not because of its quality but because of the trans issues (The Guardian.) They to alienate the public to such a degree that it backfired and it lost them the trust of their readers. How many have had layoffs or gone to the wall since then? Kotaku, Polygon, Eurogamer, GamesIndustry.biz, Rock Paper Shotgun, VG247, etc. They didn't listen to their audience and they thought that their voices were enough to kill public demand - it wasn't. Hogwarts Legacy launched and delivered a bona fide adventure in the Harry Potter universe. This game demonstrates in the best way that publishers shouldn't listen to the games media, or advocacy groups, or online campaigns - just give the players the game that they want. Hogwarts Legacy could get to 50 million.

It seems that the Switch 2 wont be reaching PS5 sales worldwide, that is a big difference.

repsahj40d ago

Many people said the same thing about the PS4 and Switch 1.

S2Killinit39d ago

Switch 1 was in a different situation. It overlapped PS4 and PS5. Also, many people (including myself) bought the Switch as a companion console to PS4. The economy is different now, prices have skyrocketed and people dont have as much expendable income.

@repsagj I do think 80$ games and game cards with no game on them have turned a good amount of people off. Plus the Switch 2 is
150$ more than Switch 1 at launch so that has an effect as well. If they make a Switch 2 lite that may change things but I do think the higher pricing has had a big effect on their sales after the launch wave.

Well done PS5. Still going strong after launching over 5 years ago

Ps5 was number 1 during BF week in the US aswell. Makes sense, top of the line console with a mature game library at a fair price.

repsahj40d ago (Edited 40d ago )

Yeah, that huge $100 price drop really helps! And what is Next Playground?!?!?! PS5 is top 1, Switch 2 is second, and NEXT is third. People decided to buy NEXT instead of MS Series???

S2Killinit40d ago (Edited 40d ago )

Lets face it, PS5 would be top even without a price drop. Besides, its not like you can blame them for giving the best value to consumers.

xbox next? Dont think a lot of people care. At this point MS is trying to escape direct competition with PS. Probably going to leave all of their current customers behind.

You need to take into consideration that Switch is not in the same market or target audience as Xbox and Playstation. Take into consideration that the massive falling of Xbox numbers, means the majority of those gamers have to go somewhere, and they are not going to go to Switch or PC, they're going to what they know and how they like to game, the majority are going to go to Playstation.

That doesn't stop Switch from selling though, because as I said, they are not in the same market. They co-exist and compliment each other. Lots of Switch owners also own a Playstation and lots of Playstation owners also own a Switch. The market has decided that Nintendo and Playstation are both extremely successful and lets hope it stays that way.

"In fact, PS5 was the only console to do better this Black Friday than the previous one, with unit sales up 16% over the year before. PS5 had a 62% share of the console market during the week."

xbox doing worse than it did during black friday last year. woof.
