PSVR 2 review: A new standard for virtual reality

The PSVR 2’s spec sheet is an enviable mix of the top features seen in the best VR headsets, combined with proprietary Sony audio and haptic technology, all linked to a powerful game console in the PS5 with a strong developer ecosystem.

Yet another review saying it's the best headset.

I also think it's become clear now why the dedicated tempest sound chip in the PS5 is such a big deal. It's making a difference in the processing of the 3D sound which is another aspect that sets PSVR2 apart.

Well, as it turns out PSVR2 is the best VR experience you could have currently. (Although what about the $1500-$2000 headsets out there?)

Im all in on PSVR2, but I hope that when Meta Quest 3 comes it will be even more advanced, the more VR is pushed forward, the better.

As long as Meta Quest 3 is wireless, it can't compete with wired headsets.
It will of course be better than the Quest 2, but standalone headsets has a long way before it will be comparable.

Just speculation based on the current market. But I feel the Quest 3 will be more advanced in some ways, particularly by using pancake lenses and being less bulky. And I fully expect that it will have similar features in terms of Eye tracking, dynamic foveated rendering and refresh rate. But will not reach the same levels of screen quality and the connection with a PC will still be only so-so cause Meta will not slap a display port into the device.

Still what will make or break it is the price.

Good insight.

I do wonder if any headsets currently match PSVR2’s eye tracking+foveated rendering. (Or will they in the future). Reason I ask is because Sony is using its full frame camera tech know-how to achieve their eye tracking. No one else has that background. Its why even Apple uses Sony tech in their iphone cameras.

Commercially available I don't believe there is. But on the B2B market, you can get stuff like the Pico 4 Enterprise and the Quest Pro that not only feature eye tracking and Dynamic foveated rendering, but also face and hand tracking.

They are more expensive though. With the Pico starting at $900 and the Pro at $1500.

Can’t wait, especially now that I’ve learned that Ace Combat8 will not have any kind of vr component.

Wasn’t really keeping up with Aces because it was all multiplayer, I guess this will have to do
