GB: "The long-awaited RPG is finally available and leaves much to be desired. What happened? How did things go so wrong?"

Forspoken's horrible writing makes it come across as an instant turn-off for so many, despite its fantastic traversal and passable combat.
It feels like an example of having to many cooks in the Kitchen as there was 4 writers for this alone and it's sad because Amy Hennig was one of them who has a great track record for female characters or writing in general.
has it rly been two years already?
i wonder if they had to stick to a certain narrative instead of just write good characters.
The writing is bad like 99% of games. The trick is to figure out how sh%& it is in a sea of sh&%. Seems like a waste of rescues to explore this, but content is content.
Were you expecting the script to change? A lot of games lack in the story department but don’t get the same criticism
Its kinda fun but open world missing the npc’s is bland and her standing in one spot talking to her arm annoying why cant we move?. But for free its definably worth it gameplay fantastic.

VGChartz's Craig S: "Who doesn't love a good dose of schadenfreude every now and then? There was no shortage of that on offer in terms of video games last year, hidden in plain sight amongst the more genuine disappointments (I'll leave it for you to decide which category each of the following games falls into).
One unfortunate trend when it comes to the biggest disappointments of the last year was that so many were new IPs, including Bethesda's latest major release Starfield, the Arkane Studio B-team's abortive attempt at a co-op vampire shooter, and Square Enix's action RPG Forspoken. Mega-franchise Call of Duty and the perennially delayed The Lord of the Rings: Gollum round out the list of Nominees."
I think disappointing and bad are not the same thing.
The article calls out lotr Gollum that was not disappointing it was bad
Redfall is both disappointing and bad.
starfield, MW3 sure disappointing.
But if I was to add some disappointments of the year I'd add
firewall ultra absolutely a dumpster fire that killed the studio.
007 goldeneye the port of the N64 game it's disappointing as we didn't get the rare remaster version and the switch version has very poor controls.
Rdr was not the remake we wanted a simple port that didn't even run at 60 fps on launch on ps5
Jedi survivor Just broken on day 1
I recently came back to Redfall, my lord...the controls and movement were a disgrace! I felt like my character was drunk. Zero fine movement control. The XBOX producers on this game should be fired.
I think Diablo IV deserves to be on this list. While not the worst made game, it was one of the most disappointing. Many of us had such high expectations for it and it turned out to be so incredibly dull, a slog to play.
Jedi Survivor was disappointing for me because I waited until a month ago to play it and it still has major issues. My saves were getting corrupted so I had to restart an old save however many times and a plethora of other bugs.
Of course there is Redfall Starfield but to me it’s MS overhype underdeliver so I expected it to some extent but not as bad as it was.
Gollum had little to no expectations.
Forspoken was a disappointment but not as bad as it was made out to be especially if you turned on Japanese voice acting. It was a 7 type of game but it looked like it could have been better.
Diablo 4 was scored well at launch but all my friends that loved and played 3 (after years of swasons) up until 4 were disappointed with 4 and don’t play it anymore .
Factions getting canceled was a bit of a disappointment. Not huge as I don’t play gaas much but it was disappointing.
Nintendo not releasing Switch 2 again was disappointing to me. I don’t use my Switch much it’s just so outdated and mosty kiddy games release some more games that I want to play not my kids!
No physical copy for Alan Wake 3 disappointing as hell, actually beyond that it is upsetting (to some extent,I will live of course)
Gamers getting used to owning nothing and renting games is very disappointing. I don’t watch Netflix anymore it’s mosty mediocre crap and rental services will go that direction if allowed.

Ahmed from eXputer writes "The quality of PC ports has been seeing a severe decline recently, and many gamers have had enough."
When you hit the playtesting stage of development and the overwhelming feedback from the get-go is the cringe-worthy dialogue so they implement dialogue frequency options In the menu, lmao.
For me it was one of those games that wow’d me when I first saw videos and trailers. The more videos I watched it didnt look as good. Then I played the demo and it didn’t interest me. I thought it was just me.
the warning signs were there from the very first released trailer to the very last released gameplay trailer. never once did this game look appealing to me.
the protagonist is straight up obnoxious and unlikeable imo. the writing is also terrible. the protagonist drops so many F bombs that it feels gratuitous and desperate to be "cool" or "adult". I'm not offended by swearing btw, i could care less - it just feels cringy like they're trying to impress the kids smoking behind the school or something.
I'm also confused as to why this game "could only be done on ps5". its not really that impressive from graphical or performance standpoints. i've seen more impressive stuff on ps4 and this is nothing compared to the fidelity of games like Forbidden West or Rift Apart or something. Hell even the ps4 version of Forbidden West looks more impressive and seems to run smoother.
Some like it and some don’t.
I think what the most unappealing aspect to it, aside from everyone making a big deal about the dialogue, is the open world design.
When you compare it to Grand Theft Auto V, Horizon, Spider-Man, and even Ass Creed the environment is this huge area with not a lot going on. Sure there’s enemies sprinkled here and there, but nothing like Elden Ring where you’d see things like trolls pulling a carriage, people worshipping things and as you approach a dragon shows up, nothing uniquely imaginative like floating jellyfish glowing in the forest.
Instead the game is on the level of MGS V and Death Stranding’s open-world environment. I think that emptiness makes it difficult to feel a sense of awe and it feels like an alpha build in a way.
I don’t know if it’s a Japanese thing or what but going from FF15, to MGS V, to Death Stranding, they just make these stupidly large open fields with nothing really interesting to see and explore. I wish they took more of a note from Elden Ring because if you’re going for a world that’s void of people that’s how you should go about it. Make it feel alive and have all these interesting things to discover and see.
This just feels empty.
It look nothing like it reveal trailer huge down grade in graphics and effects or maybe Square was passing off Pc footage as Ps5.
