"Died suddenly." RIP

Off to the Google graveyard.

darthv721219d ago

I will make a little shrine for my founders edition. Alas, poor stadia... I hardly played ya.

SullysCigar1219d ago

Lol you've got me all emotional now!

IanTH1219d ago (Edited 1219d ago )

Make sure the shrine has easy access to the controller since Google will be putting out a tool next week to unlock its Bluetooth capabilities. So at least a piece of it can go on, living its own life, carving its own path forward; in control of its own destiny, and of other games.

It's what Streaming Puck would have wanted for it.

darthv721219d ago

@ian... I have a regular edition for that. I might link it up to the steam deck.

IanTH1219d ago (Edited 1219d ago )

Dang, you went in pretty hard on Stadia, with two editions. I just had the one. I had the same thought about using it for the Steam Deck, given how poor the Series 2 lag is on there over bluetooth. Hopefully this one works well with the Deck.

(I think that other comment may be the tamest thing I've ever gotten downvotes for....not even sure what is being downvoted lol)

Good Riddance! and hopefully there will never be another streaming only videogame service ever again. We dont want to pay infinite amounts of money to rent games. Intelligent gamers prefer to own their games not rent them, streaming only services like Stadia will ruin it for everyone

GotGame8181220d ago

You know, I could see your point accept you have to install the entire game on your HD. Many "physical" games don't even contain the game. You put a disk in and it downloads. Then many times, day 1 patch.

Switch is the only console out where most games are whole, on a cartridge.

Charlieboy3331219d ago

Playstation first party games are all complete on disk.

SullysCigar1219d ago

"Many "physical" games don't even contain the game."

Can you name just five?

P4rrot1219d ago

"Many "physical" games don't even contain the game.
Can you name just five?"

Modern Warfare 2
Halo Infinite (only part of the game is on the disc)
Umm i guess every single MMO

I can't name more.. but I suppose they do exist.

CrimsonWing691220d ago (Edited 1220d ago )

I feel like you should say “you” instead of “we”.

I’m sure some people thought the same about movies and music. I think once streaming tech and bandwidth get to the point, being able to stream your games anywhere on any device would be super convenient.

Like think how you can play a game at home on your console, but then when you go on a trip you could just pick up your progress on a laptop, then when you get home continue on the home console. That’s something I want.

I feel like we can live in a world where you have both options for keeping physical media and being able to stream digital.

VivaChe1219d ago

The problem wasn't streaming games as a concept; it was Google's notorious track record of announcing new tech and then almost immediately abandoning it. People didn't trust Stadia to still be around a year after it launched, so they never bought into it.

CrimsonWing691220d ago

Well, I learned a valuable lesson about buying Google products.

Old McGroin1220d ago

Same. Although we do get full refunds and get to keep the hardware. So that's nice.

CrimsonWing691219d ago

Very true. I have to give them props on that.

deleted1219d ago

Literally the only thing they got right throughout this whole experience! X'D

Thundercat771220d ago

We knew from the start it was doomed to fail.

DarXyde1220d ago

Most of us, anyway.

It's honestly astounding how many L's Phil Harrison takes yet he continues to fail upwards. Everything this man touches dies. That man almost destroyed PlayStation but I'm glad there was a serious shift in culture and philosophy before that could happen.

Knushwood Butt1219d ago

This.
So sick of people failing upwards. World has gone mad.

Not looking good. Hopefully Asha Sharma is able to turn Phil’s disaster around.

dveio20d ago

To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

Jingsing20d ago

The stock mark is what makes Microsoft remarkable, They have convinced every institutional and retail investor to just keep piling money into them. Like many big tech giants they are just a big growing pyramid scheme. As long as people keep dropping money into ETF's that cover the market Microsoft will always be liquid. At the same time it is completely stifling innovation and competition. People need to start being more discreet in how they invest their money as it's killing the system.

Tanktopmaster9220d ago

Once they re-evaluate exclusive all will be fine….

S2Killinit20d ago

Riiiiight because people will just flock back to them for one or two games per year.

Jingsing20d ago

15+ years of bad performance is what they call irreparable in business. It is time for them to sell off the assets and get out of entertainment.

Tanktopmaster9220d ago

These declines are on the back of extra revenue received from releasing games like Forza horizon 5 on PlayStation. So I’m being sarcastic here when I said they should go back to exclusives. Killing off a revenue stream from Ps5 sales will only make things worse

To be fair, there are also human made games that release and lack any fun at all either.

jznrpg23d ago

But all of the great games have been made by humans

jwillj2k423d ago

One is by choice, the other is a feature.

PRIMORDUS23d ago

Guild Wars 2 been playing for 14yrs, 1st beta. This is just one company I support, Arenanet and NCSoft, even though I torrent, there are a few PC companies I will buy from. "PlayStation’s Horizon MMO spin-off, Horizon Steel Frontiers." I feel this will be good, NCSoft is a good developer/publisher.

CrimsonWing6922d ago

It’s a tool. Use it elevate things and get it done faster. I’m sorry but not every game made by humans is good. If this can help things, then I fully embrace it.
