Uncharted's Graphical Evolution

The Uncharted series is well-known for its exceptional graphics and cutting-edge technology, both of which have persistently pushed the limits of what is possible on the PlayStation platform. This has resulted in the series consistently pushing the boundaries of what is possible.

Still haven't seen a complete package more impressive than U4 & TLOU2 besides maybe R&C

Fishy Fingers1240d ago (Edited 1240d ago )

U2 and TLOU.

TheOptimist1239d ago

How do you say complete package when the gameplay is shallow and the writing is meh.

In terms of AAA space, I would say Spiderman has been the complete package. I found Spiderman's writing far more humane and realistic than any other game. At least in terms of Sony exclusives.

Obviously, there are many better games in the indie space, but I cant expect people to recognize them given their lack of (relative) popularity.

Charlieboy3331239d ago

Oh no, please feel free to name those indie games so that we....being the uncultured knuckle-dragging dunces that we are.....can be exposed to the undiscovered literary wonders you speak of.

FIELDMARSHALL_P1239d ago (Edited 1239d ago )

I hear your argument about spiderman but uncharted did advance each game. Spiderman may have a better story per se but in the terms of continuous innovation in my opinion uncharted did that. I do like spiderman more than uncharted for the game play.

@TheOptimist

I figured since the subject was graphics and technology, you would get that i am talking in terms of graphics and technology. I see expected too much 😕

masterfox1240d ago

playing it again U4 on PC highest settings and is just too damn good of a game from gameplay to visuals, ND nailed it when creating the transition of exploration to combat, on exploration Nathan is a bit slower and it looks heavier on the movement , the animation represents that pretty damn good, but when entering combat you can feel the transition of movement , the tension can be felt in the gameplay, Nathan is way more faster , agile and the controls are perfect!, there is absolutely no other game that it does this in gameplay so naturally.

FingerAction1240d ago

I recently played it on PC and I definitely have to agree. Everything just feels twice as good.

blackblades1239d ago (Edited 1239d ago )

Then there's the standalone with a mini open world. I surpised they didnt up the vita uncharted game.

crazyCoconuts1239d ago

I still remember playing that on the Vita and you had to hold it up to bright light to show the invisible ink scrawled on some parchment or something like that. It's little things like that that were so cool

DarXyde1239d ago

ND has remarkable attention to detail. When you hang on a building and aim one hand to jump to the next ledge, you can even see his muscle strain. From storytelling to gameplay to attention to the little things to the emotion conveyed by characters, they're absolute masters of their craft and truly artists trapped in developers' bodies.

crazyCoconuts1239d ago

The character development and dialog in their games are amazing. The characters resonate with me so much better than with Lara Croft imo. Kinda get that feeling like you're the young Harrison Ford in Raiders of the Lost Ark when playing an UC game. Tomb raider hits on some of the same mechanics but lacks the characters imo

DarXyde1239d ago

Tomb Raider is great, but I definitely agree on resonating.

Lara is a great character, but the supporting cast was always forgettable for me. I think it was great watching Lara sort of evolve over time, though I think by the time we get to Shadow of the Tomb Raider it gets a bit Shadow the Hedgehog for me. Narratively, I never understood why Lara was clearly breaking apart and still find herself in those situations. Nate is exactly who he is and he's confident in his thrill seeking. Probably fair to call him a bit of a sociopath, but we know he's looking for trouble and his band of misfits egg him on at times.

Lara is definitely more of a survivor, and her circumstances kind of remind me of someone who goes to prison and when they have a chance to come out, they can't adapt to the outside world anymore. But the difference is Lara is not without options and it feels a bit disingenuous from an immersive character perspective

Crysis games pushind the limits of what is possible on ps3 and 360 and looked better than U2/3
which are way more linear games

from DF
The fact that Crysis 3 runs on console at all is a remarkable achievement, with Crytek deploying a wide range of advanced rendering techniques"

"Crysis 3 is one of the most technically accomplished games of this generation, a visually spectacular piece of software that pushes graphical boundaries on all platforms. And with all its graphical settings pushed to the max."

John dark1x 2021
" before we go into all of the details again i just have to stress how good crysis 3 still looks today i mean this was released before the last generation of consoles i think it still holds up, looks like a Ps4 and xbox one generation title in a way that kind of shocking"

In that time the PC version looked a gen ahead of
TLOU on ps3

"Crysis 3 on PC effectively offers a "next-gen now" experience - a preview of the level of technical prowess we should expect in the years to come from the new wave of consoles".

This was before the release of
PS4 and xbox one.

Now we need to see what Crysis 4 be like :)

FingerAction1240d ago

That's technically true but also a very different type of game.

isarai1240d ago

I mean you can make it look as good as you want, but it doesnt matter if it runs at 540p 10-20fps and blurry af. And i still disagree with Crysis 2 (didnt bother with 3) besides character models the game was ugly on ps3

PrinceOfAnger1240d ago (Edited 1240d ago )

It didn't run 540p that false info, and never dropped to 10 frames according to Df
even last of us had frame drops but not as much as crysis 2 which has larger bigger levels so thats why.
Crysis 2 is not linear like uncharted 2/3
It has better more advanced tech and visuals
better destructible environment you can interact with way more things in the game and the physics of water the effects etc are just better the cinematic in uncharted 2 3 even last of us are pre rendered video files while crysis games all real time running in game on the hardware

From DF, both uncharted 3 and C2 released in 2011
"Crysis 2 on console is an exceptional release.
phenomenally attractive game, producing effects quite different and in many ways more advanced than anything we've seen elsewhere on console. We all wanted Crysis on console to be an event, a showcase release: by and large, Crytek has delivered, and those cutting edge visuals are backed by a truly impressive game design."

PrinceOfAnger1239d ago

In fact you can watch the frame drops in last of us to the 22s in this video from df
other players said it drop to 20s

I enjoyed the original crysis and 3 and both were visually appealing without a doubt. Some area's better then others.

But the problem with crysis wasn't it's graphics, the problem was CPU. That's why many rigs struggled with it. single threaded.

I would say it did push the bar, but I think the uncharted games matched and in some places were better.

Animation in uncharted is second to none, That's what the SPU'S took control of.Uncharted 2 is a masterpiece for a ps3 game. Heck Killzone2 was shockingly good in many area's as well. it's the shame they couldn't imrove the fps.Animations,lighting. Artstyle the game had that gritty war look. loved it.

But back to Uncharted, it just got better and better looking as time went on.

I'm excited to see what naughty dog do with the PS5.

I'd also enjoy another crysis.

andy851239d ago

UC4 still has pretty much the best lifelike character models I've seen on cutscenes. Love to see what they could do with this new gen

FingerAction1239d ago

For me it’s definitely between TLOU2 and this. No one really does it like Naughty Dog.

SurgicalMenace1239d ago

I'm sorry, but Horizon FW has some of the best animations and facial emotions that I've seen in any game to date. I do place Uncharted in a class of its own but I'd have to see an Uncharted built on the new tech before even comparing it to Horizon.

andy851239d ago

But UC4 still look like real people more is my point.

Demetrius1239d ago

Uncharted and tomb raider are about the only linear games I will buy lol they are so well crafted I really hope the next uncharted be a bit more open about exploration cause naughty dog kicks ass when pushing hardware mane like Santa Monica, insomniac and sucker punch imagine what these devs will do with the ps5 :-O
