Bungie working on new projects

Bungie: The studio has “completely changed” how it develop games and does business over the course of 25-plus Destiny content releases, “moving from strictly boxed products to live service games”.

Furesis1219d ago

I forgot sony bought them lol

S2Killinit1219d ago

Im looking forward to what they might make under Sony. I wonder of they will also have plans for exclusive content for PlayStation or at least console exclusives for PlayStation or all of their games will be multiplatform. Either way its going to be interesting.

purple1011219d ago

I think the actual wording was "free to develop crossplatform".. it was not stipulated that EVERY game should be multiplat.

You'd better believe for 3 billion they will get at least 1 exclusive.

Sonic18811219d ago (Edited 1219d ago )

"You'd better believe for 3 billion they will get at least 1 exclusive."

Probably more than one. Probably 2 out of 5 games they develop

Eonjay1219d ago

So Bungie is under Sony and not PlayStation. But of course they will work together. I think their live service game will still be multiplat. I think there is a chance PlayStation can get some timed exclusives and potentially some full exclusives but in general I expect full multipat support

Kurt Russell1218d ago

I have a small hope they may create a PSVR2 title. Their ability to create such fun gunplay mixed with VR could create a hell of an experience.

ngl, i totally forgot this acquisition even happened. it’s got me wondering if it was really worth it just yet, but i guess we’ll see soon enough!

Crows901219d ago (Edited 1219d ago )

It wasn't worth it.

But of course people forget about this acquisition. Sony's isn't in the business of taking historically multiplatform games and making them exclusive to their platform.

Lightning771219d ago

Huh? Yeah they are? How come Spider-Man isn't on Xbox and Switch?

mkis0071219d ago (Edited 1219d ago )

Crowe
They bought them for their multiplayer tech.

Lightning

Because it wasnt developed by a multiplatform dev/ publisher?

Past games were made by activision. And had activision quality.

badz1491219d ago

@Lightning77

ask Marvel

Dreisdest1219d ago

This is weirdly worded. Sure, Sony owns them, but a stipulation of the acquisition was that all of Bungie’s future games would be multiplatform. None of these projects will be exclusive to Sony The headline might as well be “Bungie is working on unannounced projects.”

(It says all of this in the article. I just think that the headline is misleading.)

IRetrouk1219d ago (Edited 1219d ago )

Who's to say what those projects are though? Or if its a bungie ip or one of sonys other studios?
Headline is just a fact of what bungie are doing and who they are doing it with.

Elda1219d ago

You best believe one or two of those projects will be exclusive to Sony's PS console.

Asplundh1219d ago

I believe someone from the Sony camp mentioned that one of the reasons Sony bought Bungie was so that they could help with making live service games, that's probably what they're doing.

SullysCigar1219d ago

I wonder if they had anything to do with the Last of Us multiplayer game coming soon? Even if just on an advisory level, it would almost seem remiss not to draw on the considerable experience Bungie has in this area.

darkrider1219d ago

They should be. After destiny 2 all games should be exclusive because of the path taken from Microsoft

DarXyde1219d ago

Nah. For $3B, they're probably going to go full live service across multiple platforms. I say go for it. Xbox and PC fans love Bungie (or they did, I suppose—the acquisition probably changes that). Good source of income there.

They really should focus very hard on making a CoD killer, especially with this acquisition set to stifle Sony. I'm not an FPS gamer, but Halo is kind of a non-factor anymore.

They might be the new handlers of Killzone, but I think they're going to make a new IP first that's going to be a live service multiplatform title.

jznrpg1219d ago (Edited 1219d ago )

You read it ? Sony and Bungie can choose to do whatever they want they aren’t bound to make everything multi platform . If it’s PS and PC that’s technically multiplatform also. Only time will tell

GamingSinceForever1219d ago

If I recall Sony made it clear that the main reason for the acquisition is Bungie’s unmatched ability to create online multilayer content.

So if you pay attention the headline states working in multiple unannounced projects “with Sony”.

blackblades1218d ago

Exactly, buying them for mulitplayer/live services, that otger studio for support, evo for tournaments, 10 to 20% of fromsoftware, others things for other things. They are investing in the right things that will help there future.

SoulWarrior1219d ago (Edited 1219d ago )

I mean, Sony own them and the IPs, they are part of playstation studios, regardless of the platform status they are still working on them in tandem with the parent company.

DOMination-1219d ago

They are owned by SIE but they are not part of PlayStation Studios.

Therefore they have the independence to develop on other platforms (if they want)

Justo9091219d ago

Whats the point of spinning when which ever way you look at it they are owned by Sony LOL.

badz1491219d ago

multiplat doesn't automatically means xbox and switch. PS + PC is multiplat too

KicksnSnares1219d ago

Hopefully, they have a single-player project and not all live service crap.

SullysCigar1219d ago

Sony have awesome single-player games coming out left and right for years. While they're my preference too, they bought Bungie because they're among the best multiplayer games developers in existence. Seems fair enough to me if that's what they're utilised for within the Sony portfolio.

-Foxtrot1219d ago

Look if they want to make a great multiplayer go ahead but after Destiny, live service shit, that’s not good multiplayer it’s just GaaS

S2Killinit1219d ago (Edited 1219d ago )

Well considering xbox is pretty much live service, I think Sony would be wise to also dabble in that space. Live service games are not bad inherently, but live service only as the default is the concern.

Profchaos1219d ago

Unfortunately I think Bungie is all in on live service. Ahh okay until they have their first flop.

I preferred halo over Destiny personally because halo felt like a proper games package I got my disc and that was my game I want more content wait for a sequel.

Destiny though I buy my disc and the content is sunset and I have nothing to play until Bungie decide to bring it back from the vault or I buy DLC

The story also felt like a incoherent mess in Destiny unless I brought every DLC and it felt like a massive cash grab most of the time compared to halo which even after decades I can just play it

Not looking good. Hopefully Asha Sharma is able to turn Phil’s disaster around.

dveio8d ago

To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

Jingsing8d ago

The stock mark is what makes Microsoft remarkable, They have convinced every institutional and retail investor to just keep piling money into them. Like many big tech giants they are just a big growing pyramid scheme. As long as people keep dropping money into ETF's that cover the market Microsoft will always be liquid. At the same time it is completely stifling innovation and competition. People need to start being more discreet in how they invest their money as it's killing the system.

Tanktopmaster928d ago

Once they re-evaluate exclusive all will be fine….

S2Killinit8d ago

Riiiiight because people will just flock back to them for one or two games per year.

Jingsing8d ago

15+ years of bad performance is what they call irreparable in business. It is time for them to sell off the assets and get out of entertainment.

Tanktopmaster928d ago

These declines are on the back of extra revenue received from releasing games like Forza horizon 5 on PlayStation. So I’m being sarcastic here when I said they should go back to exclusives. Killing off a revenue stream from Ps5 sales will only make things worse
