I definitely noticed more console focused gamers taking interest since its release. They just need to work on that battery life with the next version.

Yep, I'll be getting 1 one day. Ps5 will always be my main but Steam deck will be for ps5 remote play, some of those free epic/gog games, steam only games, maybe uncensored games thats censored on ps, emulation, mobile maybe, etc. Basically that 2nd system for everything else, it'll be how I had Nintendo and Sega then PlayStation and Nintendo and now PlayStation and Steam.

Steam deck is the best hand held gaming device ever released. I cant wait to see other versions soon that is a bit more powerful with an oled screen. I can definitely see valve releasing a new steam deck by 2024

And make it 1080P if they can

FinalFantasyFanatic1244d ago

The battery life is the only reason I've held back on buying one, if they can give me 6 hours on a higher end title, I'm sold.

TiredGamer1243d ago

I can honestly say that battery life is not a big concern for me as I tend to play it near a power source. If you're frequently away from any power (airplane/train/bus) that's probably a concern, but I think we often catastrophize the need for hours of battery... myself included.

And heck, many forms of public transportation are offering power at your seat.

The unmentioned transformation that is starting to happen now is in Linux gaming. Linux gaming was barely a blip on the radar before Steam Deck The work that's been done in Proton/Wine had been amazing, and now new game developers are making sure the games are Steam Deck (Linux/Proton) compatible. Under the covers, this is making it possible to game without Windows, which is a big deal.

JEECE1244d ago

Yeah Steam Deck has essentially forced strides in Linux gaming, which is awesome.

Inverno1244d ago

And everything has basically been done by the community. There's a few things to learn but once you have some basic understanding of lutris and download heroic, or just learn to navigate to find and get the exe running through Steam with proton it works amazingly well. Only thing I'd love to see is a way to shrink game sizes for Deck.

Only bought one Switch game this year, Bayonetta 3, and it's probably the last.

They definitely hit it out the park with the deck. I think they could have succeeded with the steam machines also had they gone with their proprietary design and not a bunch of different companies doing their thing.

blackblades1244d ago

I seen alot of other pc handhelds but valve did it best. I think one just came out looking like playstation handheld. Some have a better screen and is powerful but is pricy while SD is optimized very well that it dont need to be like others and cheaper. Just gotta work on a better battery and screen from what I heard. Makes me think should I wait or get it as soon as I can get one.

TheEnigma3131244d ago

They had to keep the price low.

crazyCoconuts1244d ago

Wine wasn't far enough along to make the steam machines palatable back then. It's been forked into Proton and both Steam and the community have been investing a lot of effort into it. If this keeps up, Steam Machines might be desirable some day, especially if companies start releasing more native Linux versions of their games

the deck has been the little companion to bring me back into PC gaming. And it makes a great emulation machine as well as great for xcloud.

Anomander1244d ago

I need to configure mine for duel booting for
xcloud. I have a 2TB micro SD card for that reason. My only wish is that steam would have made the back buttons assigned as a, b, x, and y by default and not unassigned for games.
