How's the battery 🔋 life on this thing?

Jin_Sakai1240d ago (Edited 1240d ago )

Not good. Sony really need to make battery life a priority for their controllers.

I havent had too much to grip about the battery life because I have two controllers, but more battery life would have been nice.

LOGICWINS1240d ago

"Not good. Sony really need to make battery life a priority for their controllers."

Why would they when people like S2Killnit will buy two controllers to reward Playstation for poor battery life? That's unfortunately what happens when you have a fanbase that allows you to fail upwards....

Shane Kim1240d ago

The standard dual sense have really crappy battery life.

SurgicalMenace1240d ago (Edited 1240d ago )

Everyone talks about the battery life, which is wild because it's good for 8-10 hours. If you've got enough time to waste a whole shift on gaming, then yes, there's a chance that your battery's going to have to be charged.

This controller is of nice quality and convenient. Those complaining were never going to buy it anyway. It's better to say that than to claim that a controller with a rechargeable battery is in some way inconvenient. Phones, tablets, Switch, etc all have short battery lives so are you all forgoing using the above mentioned too?

S2Killinit1239d ago

@LOGICOWNS
Oh I didn't realize me wanting two controllers is a problem. I figured most people out there have more than one controller anyway. I happen to play couch co-op with friends, hope that doesn’t get in the way of your trying to bash Sony.

FinalFantasyFanatic1239d ago

@SurgicalMenace,
I also feel like people don't bother charging until they have to, just buy a dock and drop it on there at the end of the session, Sony makes a dock that plugs into the wall socket. The only time I get to play that long is on weekends... Sometimes, otherwise it's a few hours here and there.

Worse than the regular dualsense. Basically your gunna need to keep this wired at all times or get a charging dock. Laughable when same priced controllers and even cheaper controllers last much longer.

SurgicalMenace1240d ago

Bro, how long do your gaming sessions last? I must be missing something because the rechargeable battery keeps getting in the way of me enjoying my games.

Sgt_Slaughter1240d ago (Edited 1240d ago )

For $200, this thing somehow has worse battery life than the regular DualSense which was already really bad to begin with. Under 10 hours of battery life for a rechargeable controller (that can't be hotswapped on the fly) is unacceptable in 2022 and shouldn't be defended or brushed aside.

One of the worst parts of owning a PS4 was having to recharge/plug in your controller seemingly every other day, and they didn't improve it for the PS5.

andy851240d ago

With how cheap controllers are now (could get one for £20 if you were smart in the UK last month) I do have a 2nd one on a charging dock. But there's still no excuse for the low battery life really. The Dualsense does have a 50% larger battery than the Dualshock but I guess the extra tech in it makes it drain faster. They could easily have a larger battery

Limitedtimestruggle1240d ago (Edited 1240d ago )

Yeah, this is a clear no-go for me. And no hall effect sticks at that msrp is ridiculous. And the battery life looks to be a joke as well.

GoodGuy091240d ago

Hall effect sticks and a 20+hr battery life would've gotten me to buy it instantly. It does have modular sticks though so maybe sony could sell them eventually or you can replace them once the drift happens.

Limitedtimestruggle1240d ago

Sony will definitely sell them, oh yes they will lol.

SPEAKxTHExTRUTH1240d ago

I haven’t heard much on the battery’s hopefully it’s better than the PS5 controller. I have one on pre order so I’ll find out soon enough.

Jin_Sakai1240d ago

Literally every website is reporting the battery life is worse than the standard DualSense controller.

SPEAKxTHExTRUTH1240d ago

I ve watched two YouTube videos and neither one spoke about the battery.

Limitedtimestruggle1240d ago

Why would you need a youtubers opinon though, you already have multiple sources saying it's got a worse battery life.

SurgicalMenace1240d ago

Because YouTube provides an option to see what they're doing with the device opposed to just expecting us to take their word.

SPEAKxTHExTRUTH1240d ago

What part of I only watched two hands on videos and neither mentioned it don’t u get?

Limitedtimestruggle1239d ago

Oh I got you alright, but you better find some other youtuber to watch. Since not mentioning the battery lifetime on such an expensive peripherial points to a very little in-depth hands on experience and I would not be surprised if they even got it for free from Sony as well (not saying they did, but it happens)

SPEAKxTHExTRUTH1239d ago

One of the videos I watched was done at Sony headquarters. Why they didn’t mention the battery is beyond me but either way I’m aware of the battery at this point. I’ll still pick one up because I’m just into high end gadgets but I don’t expect much out of the battery…

Damn if I didn't have a Portal and Edge already I would be all over these

Stevonidas491d ago

I recently decided to invest in a new DualSense, Pulse headset, and console plates for my PS5. All Midnight Black. Love the blacked out look.

Tsar4ever01491d ago

Does this mean we will soon hear about "ALL BLACK COVER PLATES" for the PS5 & Pro models?

S2Killinit490d ago

If you click on the article, there is a picture that may answer that question.

I like it. Looks super sleek.

PS5 gets another steep price increase in Japan

VGC writes: "Both the standard and digital models are going up by around $90."

Even accounting for the weak yen, that seems a bit excessive. It’s even stranger considering the rumors of a PS5 Pro possibly launching by the end of the year, which means that in Japan, it could cost significantly more than $600, probably close to $700 - a high price for a console.

DivineHand125624d ago

The price increase is excessive. If the value of the yen is to blame, then I would expect the console price to be adjusted to match the price of the $500 disc PS5 at which would be ¥71916.58. Instead Sony added an additional $50 USD raising the total to ¥79,000.

I'm not sure if they have to pay extra fees to import the console but the PS5 has had so many revisions that Sony should be able to keep the price inline with the US price at this point. I believe part of this increase is because they can increase the price without worrying about any fallout.

JL2930623d ago

Just to play 3rd party games and remasters.

ocelot07624d ago

Wtf is going on this generation with the price increases years after release?

Workshyskiver624d ago

Global inflation combined with Sony having such a large share of the console market they can do whatever they like and you will damn well accept it.

VersusDMC624d ago

Xbox has a smaller share of the market(miniscule in japan) and still raised the price(twice this year) of the series X in japan...so everyone is doing whatever they like.

Extermin8or3_624d ago

In Japan song is second Nintendo is the leading console maker in Japan.

jwillj2k4624d ago

I’d like to see them try that shit in America. Xboxes will start to sell quiiiick!

rlow1624d ago

Yet inflation fell in the last year in the United States. Though I’m not sure about Japan.

CobraKai624d ago

It’s crazy. We’d shoulda been hearing about price drops already, not increases.

The_Blue624d ago

Assassin's Creed hype for sure.

Limitedtimestruggle624d ago

Sony just leaving it up to Nintendo at this point. PS5 obviously not gonna be a mainstream product over there. Xbox is not relevant.

ChasterMies624d ago

Folks in the U.S. don’t understand that the U.S. had one of the lowest rates of inflation. It’s worse in almost every other country and the U.S. dollar is a lot stronger which makes imports even cheaper. I would love to see deflation but we’d need a recession and mass layoffs before that would happen,

Extermin8or3_624d ago

Nooooo you do not want to see deflation that spells complete disaster for an economy. What you want is wages and growth to be consistently higher than inflation.

jwillj2k4624d ago

That aint ever happen lol
