Splinter Cell Celebrates 20 Years

This is a great milestone for the franchise. Today, Ubisoft celebrates 20 Years of the original stealth action classic, Splinter Cell.

P_Bomb1330d ago

Ah, two decades of the ol’ splits-jump, heh. It’s on my bucket list irl, lol!

MIDGETonSTILTS171330d ago

Looking at what it took to pull off a headshot in the OG trilogy, and then seeing the “mark and execute” mechanics in action…. It’s the biggest shift in tone for any franchise, ever.

Go play Chaos Theory and dissect why it works. We’re waiting…

EazyC1330d ago

It's amazing to me that stealth and AI peaked what, 17 years ago, with Chaos Theory.

I played through it again recently and when you have Night Vision on it could seriously pass for a top-tier modern videogame.

And the Amon Tobin soundtrack -- just godly. An absolute work of art.

P_Bomb1330d ago

Bonus points for the Amon Tobin shoutout!

MIDGETonSTILTS171330d ago

It really was ahead of its time, and I am very surprised that nobody is capable of expanding on the original vision.

It isn’t supposed to be a shooter…. It is supposed to be incredibly difficult, but entirely possible, to rely on brute force.

How much are they going to charge fans for the celebration?

CrimsonWing691330d ago (Edited 1330d ago )

I feel like it's weird to do a 20th anniversary celebration when you haven't had a game out since 2013, despite all the fans begging for it.

Yea we're getting a Remake... that I guess is going to be "politically correct," sounds great.

So, what do we get for this celebration? A round-table discussion of how awesome the games were? Gee, thanks.

Please don't be a mobile or free to play game

Software_Lover219d ago

If they screw this up then I just don't know what to tell you.

Travesty218d ago

So I wonder what the release date will be. Probably another 3-4 years. This is good news for the splinter cell fans, Ubisoft needed this. It should be in good hands now.

Dexterio218d ago

I hope they go back to the first three games game style. Didn’t like the newer games that much.

The game was announced much too early, but also people were hounding Ubisoft about Splinter Cell for years, so they wanted placate them by making the announcement.

It's normal for games to "go dark", no reason to worry about it. In our age of social media and glut of releases everyone has to turn everything into a big deal if they don't get what they want immediately. Just be patient and let them develop the game.

And let's hope they don't turn it into a modern Ubishit game, packed with mundane boring filler, and ways to artificially extend the length of the game. Experience points, skill trees, resource collecting, grinding for equipment upgrades. None of that trash belongs in Splinter Cell.

Husker42c948d ago

We are talking about Ubisoft. Of course all that crap will be shoehorned into the game.

Chocoburger948d ago

Old Ubisoft was amazing. Modern Ubisoft I mostly ignore these days. It's a shame because they have so much potential.

P_Bomb949d ago

Fond memories of the OG trilogy. Hope they do right by it.

Ubisoft and remakes seen to be cursed still waiting for Prince of Persia Sands of Time

RaidenBlack949d ago

well ... one thing's positive in that ... they're using the snowdrop engine for this remake, which looks better than Ubisoft's Anvil engine.
Snow drop is a stunning engine have been used in the Division series as well will be powering the upcoming Avatar and Star Wars Outlaws
