Kotaku: Dissidia: Final Fantasy Import Review

Kotaku writes:

"When we were children, we wanted two things: a Super Mario Bros. movie and a Final Fantasy fighting game; we got one of those things, and it made us wish we were dead.

Today, fifteen years later, we have the other one. Does it make us wish we were dead - or does it make us wish we were more alive?

This is a difficult question to answer. Come inside, then, and watch me run confused circles around myself as I attempt, with great vigor, to analyze Dissidia: Final Fantasy, a veritable cornucopia of aesthetic competence, attention to detail, affectionate fan service, and ever-present, cascading, waterfall-like arithmetic. Shucks, forget analysis - I'll be lucky if I can even describe it accurately without punching myself in the face on accident."

LOL. I'm not sure if thats a good thing or not.

"THAT SAID, despite thoroughly disliking his game, I enjoyed playing it for around thirty hours. Does that sound impossible? Maybe it does."

facepalm?

Narutone666357d ago (Edited 6357d ago )

every time they give a favorable review to a Sony game console.

gaffyh6357d ago

@1.2 - Yeah it's part of their contract at Kotaku. Also if they do give a good review, they have to make it sound as bad as possible and at the end write - but it's good.

Timesplitter146357d ago

ok so in short, the bad things about this games are that there IS a story and the combat system is complex...

damnit Kotaku...

ChampIDC6357d ago

Well, being overly complex can definitley be darn confusing. Having not played it, I can't tell you if that's the case.

And story...well, if it's not a compelling story, they'd be better off without it. Once again, can't tell you.

From what I've seen, the game looks cool, but I can't really tell if it plays well or not.

Man, I feel like I don't know anything after typing this.

be_wrong6356d ago

i've got a copy of the game and got really confused with the review, he hated it but he liked it? i've gotta say that the system is complex when you try to edit a character but on the battle system it's not, to have only 2 attacks, one that damages the HP and one that damages the brave point (this will be the one that you'll use to damage an hp). and to have a japanese copy wasn't really a problem for me. the review is just stupid, go buy the game when it comes out.

Millah6356d ago (Edited 6356d ago )

This isn't exactly the first Final Fantasy fighting game......apparently Kotaku doesn't remember Ergheiz.

Willio6356d ago

i remember trying to climb up the 100 levels in Ergheiz. The arcade battle was fun though.

Best PSP Games Of All Time Ranked - PlayStation Universe

Bad List since Ridge Racers 2 is missing there.

I'm curious but is it possible to legally play these games without buying a psp?

luckytrouble1893d ago

You can play some of them on the Vita via PSN purchasing, but a PSP with a functional UMD drive is the only completely legal way to play games like FF7: Crisis Core.

WeAreLegion1893d ago

Some of them, yes. But most PSP games are locked to that system or digitally on Vita. The Vita's second analog stick is amazing for FPS games. I use an emulator to play many PSP games. I know that's illegal, but I wouldn't call it unethical. There's no way to give developers money for these games anymore. Unless you buy their new games. :)

Highly recommend Infected, if you get the chance.

Magic_Spatula1893d ago

Emulators aren't illegal. Unethical? Maybe. The issue companies have are how you obtained the games. If you got them through legal matters (such as making your own backups of games you own and not distributing them), they're mostly okay with that. If you got the through less..... ethical means, then yeah, it's a no-no in their eyes.

Fluke_Skywalker1893d ago

@Magic_Spatula Like he said, there is no legal way to buy most psp games anymore in a way that gives the developers any money. So yes emulators are normally illegal and unethical, but in this case its actually the only way to play some of these games, if you didn't buy the games many years ago.

Fluke_Skywalker1893d ago

Yeah they really need to give us a remake of that for PS4/5 I absolutely loved that game. Still the saddest ending to a video game ever.

SDuck1893d ago

The fact this has vanilla Dissidia instead of Duodecim tells me not to take the list serious. Duodecim is obviously the superior since it has the same content (story included) from the first game and (much) more

Magic_Spatula1893d ago

Yeah. Duodecim was basically an enhanced version of the original game.
