Overwatch 2 is a glorified monetization restructure that is somehow worse than the old loot boxes.

The climb continues as a new Hero rises and the fight for a better future pushes Overwatch higher than ever.
In 2023, developed by Blizzard Entertainment, Overwatch 2 was released, which was basically a big, glorified update of the original game that launched in 2016. Now, it’s simply reverted to being called just Overwatch, which is probably for the best.
The second iteration of Overwatch was released on the original Nintendo Switch, and while it’s still an enjoyable game with cross-play/progression functions, it’s still lacking in terms of performance and visuals, compared to its PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S counterparts. Well, it was.
As of today, the second iteration of Overwatch is natively available on the Nintendo Switch 2, just in time for Season 2: Summit.
The Nintendo Switch 2 version of Overwatch will have increased resolution both in handheld and docked modes, enhanced textures and lighting, up to 60 frames-per second, improved audio and more.
Blizzard is readying a patch to address the issue that the game is still running in Switch 1 build and just 30 fps.
Welcome to a new era. Follow the first fully-connected narrative arc in Overwatch history, play five new Heroes in Season 1, and enjoy expansive gameplay updates when Vendetta’s reign begins on Feb. 10.
Its free now so you have to buy cosmetics.. It was obvious from day one they announced it as free to play
I love how Blizzard were like "How can we make a worse system than loot boxes..." and actually figured it out.
Probably the worst f2p mechanic Ive seen.. X) With 80lvs pass for around 60 days, you have to buy the pass and play 5-10 matchs every day to hit the max level and get the legendary skin.
Not mentioning that free players only get 1 reward on 5 (and obviously not the coolest ones).
As ow1 player, Im glad Ive unlocked almost all skins so I have a cool look ingame. So I can just focus on having fun and let the "reward" part aside.
That’s how companies get you.
It actually was better with loot boxes.
We wanted LBs to be taken out of games so they could function as games. The companies made battle passes and, for some reason, most people thought, “this isn’t just different, it’s better than before,” when it was clearly a worse way of doing things.
Free to play games were costing more people money. There were no whales anymore, but subscription users.
Battle passes are crazy. Games are basically now asking you to go steady with them to get anything out of it. For people who bounce around between games, battle passes are a laughable plea of monogamy. Personally, I've gotten to the point where I wont even try games with a battlepass because i know i wont be getting a rewarding experience out of it by playing at my own pace. In a way, it makes it easier for me to decide what to spend my increasingly precious time with, so, thanks?
