As we come to the end of the official FIFA partnership with EA Sports, FIFA 23 treats us to a true celebration of the best parts of football without all those pesky things like defending, objective free kicks or tactical play getting in our way.
The Austrian Supreme Court has ruled in favour of Sony and EA, stating that lootboxes in FIFA Ultimate Team aren't gambling since enough skill is involved. While that's a big setback for the players that sued, it also gives clear reference to when lootbox modes are or aren't "skill-based".

EA didnt lose the rights to the name FIFA. They chose not to relicense due to the extortionate fee that they were being charged.
The bottom line is true though, EA are comfortable and put what feels like little to no effort into each release. There is still so much that can be done with this game and yet, we see so little.
