Deviation Games: An update on our studio leadership

Deviation Games Co-Studio Head Jason Blundell has departed the studio. Dave Anthony continues to be CEO and has also adopted the role of Game Director. Louis Castle, a co-founder of Westwood Studios has joined the studio.

porkChop1357d ago

Already? Blundell only founded the studio two years ago. They haven't even released a game yet.

CaptainHenry9161356d ago

Honestly I think he left more because of personal issue rather than just leaving

solideagle1357d ago

strange that he founded a studio and then left after 2 years...

blue881357d ago

My theory is Sony bought deviation that why Jason Blundell left.

porkChop1357d ago

That wouldn't make sense though. One of the walls at Deviation is decorated with large decorative lights in the shape of DualSense controllers. They were even fond enough of PS to enter a publishing partnership. Jason Blundell was also one of the co-founders, so if he didn't want to sell to PS he wouldn't have to.

thats the 1st thing i thought.

Orchard1356d ago (Edited 1356d ago )

Acquisitions typically require that the existing leadership team stays on for a certain period of time. Sony would also request that he lets them announce the acquisition before any high level departures.

Highly doubt this is an acquisition.

Christopher1356d ago

This seems highly unlikely.

I'm going to assume it's for a personal reason that Blundell doesn't want to be made public. That could mean medical issues or the like or something business-related they want to be gone.

Perhaps split over creative differences. Always difficult having a "co" role. You don't get full say in decisions.

CaptainHenry9161356d ago

Blundell and Anthony both co-founder of the company knew exactly what type of game they wanted to develop and work on. This feels more like a personal issue especially when a co founder leaves so quickly

Vengeance11381356d ago

The type of game to work on is 1 out of 1000+ decisions that get made. Plenty of room for gripes and split ways of thinking.

CaptainHenry9161356d ago

Well there is a rumor floating around that Sony might acquire the studio. I don't know why they would do that since deviation games hasn't made one game yet

GoodGuy091356d ago (Edited 1356d ago )

Oof. Had hopes for blundell as I loved his work on zombies. Very unfortunate as it seems he may be too ambitious and high of standards for teams with too much of difference in opinions. Well...guess I'll keep an eye out but my expectations are a bit down now. These guys still need to prove themselves.

Not looking good. Hopefully Asha Sharma is able to turn Phil’s disaster around.

dveio28d ago

To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

Jingsing28d ago

The stock mark is what makes Microsoft remarkable, They have convinced every institutional and retail investor to just keep piling money into them. Like many big tech giants they are just a big growing pyramid scheme. As long as people keep dropping money into ETF's that cover the market Microsoft will always be liquid. At the same time it is completely stifling innovation and competition. People need to start being more discreet in how they invest their money as it's killing the system.

Tanktopmaster9228d ago

Once they re-evaluate exclusive all will be fine….

S2Killinit28d ago

Riiiiight because people will just flock back to them for one or two games per year.

Jingsing28d ago

15+ years of bad performance is what they call irreparable in business. It is time for them to sell off the assets and get out of entertainment.

Tanktopmaster9228d ago

These declines are on the back of extra revenue received from releasing games like Forza horizon 5 on PlayStation. So I’m being sarcastic here when I said they should go back to exclusives. Killing off a revenue stream from Ps5 sales will only make things worse

Take-Two CEO Once Again Side Steps Grand Theft Auto 6 Price Point

Strauss Zelnick says price of GTA 6 is being carefully considered and that Rockstar is focused on "making the most spectacular piece of entertainment on Earth."

Kuma28d ago

If GTA 6 abandons everything that made GTA 5 great, it will crash and burn right out of the gate. GTA 5 was funny and not at all PC. My worry is that they will cave to the PC crowd and ruin the vibes.

Eonjay28d ago

They got freaking BBLs twerking on the top of trucks for the gram, the freaking Flordia joker, and dude running down the stree in their undies and you are worried about it being 'too PC'? The internet has runied gamers. It doesn't matter how non-PC they make the game, you will all listen to the grifters telling you not to believe your lying eyes lol.

gigoran828d ago

"Rockstar Games’ co-founder and former VP of Development Jamie King said he envisions GTA 6 as a game that’s “maybe not quite as edgy or quite as funny” as its satirical predecessors."

oh yeah, totally internet grifters spreading rumors...

blacktiger28d ago

That's part of the plan, they destroyed you but they need to destroy the shareholders? Only 1 shre holder is the true elite that don't care

1nsomniac28d ago (Edited 28d ago )

Meh.., if it’s above £55 I ain’t buying it.

Rockstar are genuinely not half the company they used to be. I was a die hard GTA fan I’ve purchased every game and expansion and spin off day 1.

My opinion of GTA6 is that I can take it or leave it. Not bothered. They burnt too many bridges.

DaReapa28d ago (Edited 28d ago )

So they're actually leaving the door open for an L.A. Noire sequel? Nice!

VaNdAl28d ago (Edited 28d ago )

He should just come out and say it already it's getting stupid it's going to be a 100 bucks $200 for the special edition🤡🤡; 29315;🤣♿

Storm2328d ago

I won't be getting this game until I can get it for $70. SHoot, I could wait for it to be even lower. I don't need the game that badly as my backlog is still huge and I am enjoying playing other things.
