For someone with such vast experience, people disagreeing might expect you to be better informed on what's already confirmed.

So far tech and games sound great. With the experience they've built, there's no reason not to expect we'll all be very pleased with PSVR2.

If they can get it officially supported on the PC that would help. The PSVR2, at least on paper, is quite a nice VR in comparison to what is available out there. I personally would love to buy one and be able to use it on both the PS5 (and the eventual pro version) as well as my PC.

I mean, I don't get the what have you done part, like, would you rather they do nothing like everyone else? Even if they weren't investing in new VR titles (they are), wouldn't an improved headset be a welcome product for VR fans? PCVR is stagnated right now, and this stands to be a potential shot in the arm for VR, so like I don't see a down side here

@MrNinosan - Horizon might be a new game, it might also be an experience that's done in an hour. I never said there wouldn't be any new titles. I'm saying that there's a huge library of older VR titles that didn't work on PSVR do to varying reasons (tracking, hardware, etc). This allows them to tap into a bunch of those titles as well.

@generic - I'd love to see Alyx show up, but that's still up in the air at this point. It truly is an incredible VR game and one of the best out there. I'm simply saying I wouldn't expect like 20 new VR games at launch. There will be a few new titles but the bulk of the library will be either updated PSVR titles or ones that are brand new to the hardware (but not new games). Still tons of great older VR games that never made it over, I'm ordering one either way.

I'm interested in how this stacks up against a Quest 2 in actual practice. Will devs put the sheer horsepower advantage to use (Quest 2 can be tied to a PC but devs can't take that for granted)? Could and should be amazing.

Interested in seeing what comes, will be hard to compete with the likes of Half Life Alyx tho. Plus that upcoming game supposedly called Citadel, where you have 1 VR player act as like a game director to control the position and spawning of enemies etc against regular non VR players, sounds very interesting and could be a great coop game.

If Sony can get Half Life Alyx on the PSVR2 that would be a win. I really enjoyed that game! Definitely one of the best VR games at the moment

I honestly doubt Valve will release it outside of SteamVR. Valve have their own headset they're trying to sell people, they're not going to give away the biggest SteamVR exclusive.

I've seen some weird things happen in the gaming industry in the last couple of years. Valve loves money and money talks. I wouldn't be surprised if it happens. It's just a matter of time ⏲️

Actually there's no reason Valve can't double dip. No console gamer that doesn't game on PC is going to get one and a VR for one game.

Sony is double dipping their games to PC when they are pretty much done making money so there's no reason why PC can't do that to console.

There are reasons to keep it exclusive, but after so many years they've milked all they can get from that cow. Consumers are obviously not buying Valve Indexes so at least get some more $ out of the game.

I'm betting Alyx will come to PSVR2. Just like half-life games came to consoles, and many headsets are compatible with it through Steam. It still stands as one of the few all-time greats in VR and we all know Sony has the customary wheelbarrow of money for Valve to help kickstart VR2's launch.

When Half-Life came to consoles, Valve were still actively a game studio.
They're a PC storefront and hardware developer now.

It's like expecting Nintendo to put the next Mario game on Playstation or Xbox.

You realise it combines eye tracking and foveated rendering meaning it only needs to render the specific spot the user is looking at in 4k to achieve the desired result? Unity's PSVR2 presentation indicated a 2.4x performance boost using this technique, but that will vary by engine and possibly advance over time.

As for the frame rate, reprojection exists, meaning the game can only need to render at 60fps per eye and still output 120fps. But 120 is not a requirement and 90 is just fine when locked, meaning it can render just 45fps per eye and use reprojection.

This isnt inflation. You cant have inflation when profits and returns are at record highs year over year. This is called gouging. “Inflation” is just the term pushed out from the boardroom to make it seem like everything is out of their control.

If you have record high inflation, then your record high profits aren't going to go as far as they would have before. I think it's whack that Sony didn't shoulder the cost themselves, but I'm also not going to deny reality.

So here are my hopes for this.

Compatible with the majority of PSVR titles.
Hopefully keep it under £300.
Compatible with PC. SONY have PC accessories. They drip feed first party games to pc. Requires just a usb c cable to use. So why not. Be the first VR headset compatible with console and PC.

I would have posted it here myself. But there's no incentive. None of us get paid, multiple articles don't lead to anything like being a mod and N4G has stopped doing contests. I figured someone else would eventually. And they did....Two days late. Lol.

Course, you probably knew like I did that it would happen. Brian from without parole mentioned it in February from his sources. Was just waiting for Sony to confirm it.

Except an iPhone is a multi-purpose computing device that can be used for hundreds of purposes. Meanwhile a games console and its accessories are basically single purpose devices.

4k OLED HDR 120hz display
4 built in cameras for inside out tracking
Another camera or two for eye tracking
Built in motor for haptics in the headset itself
2 Sense controllers with all the bells and whistles of the Dualsense controller but with added IR LEDs for tracking and finger detection

With all that hardware, nearly on par with the most expensive PCVR headsets, they could justify charging $600+ if they wanted to. I predict something closer to 400, but regardless, people will make the claim that they upped the price no matter what they charge.

I really wish I could do VR. I had several concussions years ago and never fully recovered to 100%. I tried it once, immediately felt sick and dizzy with a massive headache that soon followed. I have heard of many others who experience the same.

It's a shame there isn't some way around this, but this is the reason why VR will always be a niche segment of the market and why it doesn't make sense to invest too much into it. Its so non-inclusive that its easy to see it as a waste of resources.
