Why Another Nintendo Handheld With Dual Screens Would Be Worthwhile

While Nintendo's future ventures may stick close to the Switch blueprint, another dual-screen handheld console could also have its benefits.

Perfect answer.

The Switch is killing it. It would be foolish for it’s successor to deviate from its successful form factor.

z2g1384d ago (Edited 1384d ago )

switch sucks. its killing it with kids and casual gamers. compared to ps5, series x and even the steam deck its a joke. not all of us are looking for every game to be mario themed cute cartoons at 720p.

XbladeTeddy1384d ago

The form factor is good. The next Switch needs to focus on power or Nintendo will start getting eaten by the handheld gaming PCs that are slowly shaking up the portable market. The Steam Deck has already kicked off a portability war, which is great news as competition benefits people like us.

@z2g You shared your objections to Switch as a platform and that's fine - but that's not what the question is about! The question is should Nintendo add a second screen to a new Switch?

In response I said 'the Switch is killing it' which in terms of sales it is, over 110 million units sold which is more than double the Xbox One family whilst being released almost two years after. I don't share this number to criticise the Xbox One, but to highlight how well the Switch has resonated. Nintendo is on to a good thing that works and to try and force dual-screen gameplay on future games could damage that. Better to leave out gimmicks and concentrate on gameplay.

Your are incorrect and I will be correcting you. The Switch 2 could use a dual screen 8K resolution on top and bottom would bring the games to life like no other handheld has ever and don't get me started on 120 frame rate that the Switch 2 could have every game running smooth as butter. It needs a dual screen and Nintendo is the only company that can do it justice.

RedDevils1384d ago

Are you planning on using the Switch 2 for 2 minutes of play time?

XbladeTeddy1384d ago

"It needs a dual screen"

Does it f#@k need one

"The Switch 2 could use a dual screen 8K resolution"

Are you high? Do you know how much that would cost? Just for the screens?

"and don't get me started on 120 frame rate that the Switch 2 could have every game running smooth as butter"

Yeah, you're high. Even the power of the Steam Deck can only hit 30 to 60 frames in the latest games, not even 60 for a lot of them. A portable that can run dual 8k screens(lol) and play games ar 120fps would cost well over £1000.

“The Nintendo DS was more of an odd step forward, focusing on the gimmick of having two screens“

Ah yes Gimmick.
He said it himself. The other half was convincing you that you were getting more out of having your screen real-estate split in half.

I don’t know about you, but I’m convinced it’s worthwhile. XD

I would rather have one large screen like the Switch.

sinspirit1384d ago

It would be nice to be able to have a phone able to browse your inventory, assuming there was no noticeable lag. But, I think the current form factor is perfect.

I want a more powerful version and for it to be able to wireless connect to the charging dock so that you can throw smart apps on screen from the dock while the console is in your hands, and it could run games to the screen wirelessly with the handheld screen showing inventory just like the Wii U.

TravsVoid1384d ago

Wirelessly transmitting the screen from the Switch to the dock would be the next evolution of the concept in my opinion that way you can use it like the Wii U but still take it on the go if you want to. They would also need to sell official attachments that make it more comfortable to hold. Before I sold my Switch a year or two ago I used it 99% docked because of how uncomfortable it was to hold.

Look I know VIII has its issues and all that but how on earth can the do big anniversary events with new artwork and merchandise for VII, IX and X yet VIII got sweet f*** all.

They could have given it something during its 25th anniversary yet all it got was a single Happy Anniversary post on their social media.

solideagle25d ago

they should know that we are OG fans of VIII as it sold truckload as well. not as much as VII or X. I personally didn't like IX but X and VI are my personal fav.

Shadow Hearts 2 covenant is another game I love. I hope one day someone can make remake, I would be delighted
