Returnal Is Far Better Than Control, And Here's Why

Both experiences enter an explosive mind-bending experience with an abundant amount of combat, but Returnal has an edge in a few categories.

ArchangelMike1391d ago

Oooh, now that's a tough choice for a head to head. I'd encourage everyone to play both. I know time and money is at a premium these days, but I thoroughly enjoyed both games.

Knushwood Butt1391d ago

Yeah, I enjoyed both too, but if I had to choose one it would be Returnal, without a doubt.

VersusDMC1389d ago

Both are on PS+ Extra for those on a budget. Get a month and play them both.

babadivad1389d ago

Control was let down by its ending.

MIDGETonSTILTS171389d ago (Edited 1389d ago )

Are you sure?

Ashunderfire861388d ago

Did you play the Ultimate Edition version? That game had so much content its was really really worth $60 bucks or $70 bucks! Play all the extra missions for the ultimate edition to see the final ending that is worth it!

Yang_kai1389d ago (Edited 1389d ago )

It’s all about preference my choice is not better than yours and yours is not better than my🤷🏿 At the end of the day all that matters is how much fun you can get out of the game 🥰
Oh Forgot to add
Respect others choices as you want yours to be respected

MIDGETonSTILTS171389d ago

Returnal is a funner “quick run” game, but Control has a whole other layer of world building.

Lets also compare Pizza with Salad now or Eggs with Bubblegums..why? Because you can each eat 'em all.

SinisterMister1389d ago

Nah, that's not the case here. Although different, Returnal and Control share many similarities and it's all about how much enjoyment a game can possibly provide you with at the end of the day. For me, it's Control that does the job. Too much versatility involved.

Crows901389d ago

So many similarities but you can't mention one. Funny isn't it.

CrimsonWing691389d ago

What are the similarities besides shooting things?

Snakeeater251389d ago

For me control even free is one rare game that I could not play for me than a hour. It was really boring

Both are equally good and unique games.
Hope Housemarque gains new fans in the PC community after (much leaked) Returnal PC port actually happens.

EvertonFC1389d ago

Agreed also hoping for a returnal PS VR2 update 🤞

RaidenBlack1389d ago

Returnal with VR? ...
wouldn't it be too spontaneous & hectic for a VR experience during those intense combats?

Solitariussaint1389d ago

Sounds awesome. PSVR is made for fast paced action, Sairento VR and WipEout Omega VR prove just how intense VR games can get! I've driven around at speeds over Mach 2 in WipEout Omega VR, Returnal should be well suited for VR.

SinisterMister1389d ago

Returnal is in a league of its own, although somewhat repetitive when you progress to a certain extent. The same cannot be said about Control though. Terrific narration, deep-dyed mysteries, and one tank of a gameplay level.

Crows901389d ago

So...you're telling me that enemies don't respawn over and over again in areas you go back to?

I played control and platinumed it I believe. Yeah it gets repetitive for sure....especially since combat doesn't change much throughout. Unlike how gameplay and gunplay has to change each run in returnal.

Cyan_Over1389d ago

No they do not respawn like in other dungeon titles

Report: New Trademark for "Control: Resonant" Unearthed, Ahead of TGA

New evidence suggests a Control reveal is imminent. A trademark discovery ahead of The Game Awards hints at big news for Remedy's franchise.

Storm23176d ago

Control was really good. There was a ton of backtracking and running through the building from one end to the other a ton of times, but otherwise I loved it. Can't wait to see the sequel.

medman175d ago

Yeah it was awesome....looking forward to this reveal

REDGUM176d ago

I really enjoyed Control though without the mini map i found myself lost and or unsure of what to do too often and gave in on the game about 30% in.
Ive just re-downloaded it with the latest update with the enhanced graphics but unaure I'll dig back into it agaith with my current backlog.
Looking forward to seeing whats next from Remedy though.

toxic-inferno175d ago

I know exactly what you mean. I've played the game through twice and have had the same issue both times.

What I found on my latest playthrough was that the best way to navigate is to use the physical signs in-game as well as the map.

How the Remedy Connected Universe does the multiverse right

ScribbleCat said: Media is certainly no stranger to connecting all their properties together. Comic books have been doing this for generations, and TV is also known for special crossover episodes, which confirm the notion that they take place in the same fictional world. Video games, which can be barely called a new medium at this point, also have some interesting overlaps with connecting different games. For example, Valve’s Portal and Half-Life show how subtle hints can give players more theories to chew on. Old classics like DOOM and Wolfenstein also share similarities. But my favorite connection between games is the Remedy Connected Universe. While only a connection between Alan Wake and Control have been confirmed, there is SO much more to explore with Remedy’s crazy take on this old formula. And, according to Sam Lake, this is only the beginning.

SimpleSlave335d ago

They really should release the full Quantum Break experience on the PS5. Sure, it's a middle-of-the-road third-person shooter and a perfect example of self-indulgence, but why not? It was fun in short burst and it completes the Remedy set until Max Payne 1+2 Remakes get released later on.

Do it, Microsawft. Don't be cowards.

Housemarque Reveals It Has No Plans For Live Service Or Free-To-Play Title

Ilari Kuittinen and Gregory Louden of Returnal developer Housemarque have revealed during an interview with Eurogamer at the studio’s 30th anniversary event last week that it has no plans to develop live-service or free-to-play games, “as long as people are buying premium games.”

kpgs367d ago (Edited 367d ago )

Why would they change? That's not where their expertise is.

Redgrave367d ago (Edited 367d ago )

Didn't stop Sony after acquiring Bluepoint, taking them from renowned remaster and remake quality and sticking them on a GoW live service title that never even went anywhere.

I can't speak to what gives Housemarque the ability to be different, but let's be thankful that they are able to do so in wake of current Sony.

derek367d ago

That GoW live service game was the dumbest idea ever. I thought they were remaking Bloodbourne or a Demons souls expansion (covering that broken arch stone). Sony was really panicked after that abk/Microsoft news hit. I hope it was a side project for Bluepoint and that there's another one in the pipeline. That GoW game apparently never got off the ground.

Eonjay366d ago (Edited 366d ago )

Blaming Sony for pursuing Live Service when the top 5 games every month by spend and engagement are live service games is illogical. Gamers are telling Sony where to invest so there is a real disconnect between what is said online and what people actually play. Who should Sony listen to? Clearly the logical decision is to listen to people actually playing games and whether we like it or not Sony would be in vioulation of it duty to its investors if it didn't try to pursue LS. People taking out their fustrations on Live Service games by attacking Sony and using it as the industry whipping boy does not fix the industry. You are just telling the rest of the industry that they can keep doing what they are doing because they aren't called Sony. All I hear people say is that they hate live service but every single month the top games are live service. You are all either lying or you don't know what you are talking about. Sony should pursue both SP and live service games.
