Starfield: Performance Preview - IGN

From IGN: "Bethesda is one of the biggest studios within the Xbox portfolio, with its latest and arguably most anticipated title in Starfield releasing on Xbox Series X, Series S, and PC in 2023. This huge Gamepass title had gameplay revealed earlier this year to provide a glimpse into what we can expect.

Built on an improved engine, The Creation Engine 2, the game shows clear strides over Fallout 4 and other previous titles. Space travel, world building, rendering technology, and more are all covered here in our IGN Performance Preview."

They'd do well to drop XBO and just stick to Series / PC for this one. I know it might hurt some XBO owners, but if they can make Flight Sim work over the cloud for XBO users, they can do it for Starfield.

Sciurus_vulgaris1305d ago

I think the best expectations for the XB1 version of Starfield would be 720-900p @ 30FPS. While XB1x maybe able to due 1080 @60 fps or 1440p @ 30.

Crows901305d ago (Edited 1305d ago )

720p would be generous for xbox one. The X would do comparable to the series S if not better in some cases. As usual.

Assuming they release it on last gen.

HardKnockKid241305d ago

This seems like an error. I hope it is…

JCOLE131951305d ago

I thought the game was current gen only.

Tacoboto1305d ago

Yeah, IGN has a typo. It is not coming to Xbox One natively, it'll be playable only through Cloud Streaming.

The Xbox site even says it's a next-generation RPG available exclusively on Xbox Series and PC.

roadkillers1305d ago

I don’t understand why they don’t just place it on Gamepass streaming and not have a physical XBO launch..

Yang_kai1304d ago (Edited 1304d ago )

I like how IGNorant erased PlayStation from the release of fall out 3 and 76 from the video above rewriting history to fit their green color tinted glasses 🤷🏿
I when on the video looking for a unbiased assessment of the game but stop since they can lie straight out of the first minute I can’t trust anything they’ll say

The game will be great like other Bethesda single player games.

My advice to all the hatters out there, simply because it's not on their favorite plastic box, is... GET A LIFE, and, play Starfield on the PC like me.

Jin_Sakai1305d ago (Edited 1305d ago )

Bethesda has made some of the best and most popular single player open world games out there. Starfield will likely be another fun addicting game.

KyRo1304d ago

Best single player open world game out there? What?!

The media has fully gassed people into believing Bethesda Softworks games are good. They always have a endless list of issues but get awarded 9s/10s and GOTY but games just as busted will get scrutinised and marked down for having the exact same issues. So much bias towards a frankly mid tier dev team

neutralgamer19921304d ago

Jin

I don't know man they have made some interestingly broken games. Their best fallout game was made by obsidian and I really hope this new engine is all it's made out to be

One thing I saw in the gameplay was jittery animations and I really want to play a Bethesda game that feels like it atleast belongs on current hardware

Also to each their own but don't buy into the hype like always. These media sites will hype games they are supposed to review fairly

But what am I saying this site like most others are filled with console war nonsense

Neonridr1304d ago

@KyRo - "some of the best", not all.

Psychonaut851305d ago

Damn hatters, slinger their hats everywhere. It’s out of control! 🤣

mkis0071305d ago

I don't agree it will be great just because they have made great games before. This is a new IP; anything goes with no track record. As it is their last 2 games have been received to lukewarm reviews compared to on fire with fallout 3 and skyrim.

To me this is a bigger risk than 76. At least that had the fallout ip going for it.

CantThinkOfAUsername1304d ago

Starfield is Bethesda's chance to shine, no longer confined by TES or Fallout lore. Fallout 4's story and dialogue were clear signs Bethesda didn't know where to go after 3 and Obsidian's New Vegas. I dare say they don't fully understand what Fallout is about. I hope Starfield shakes things up like Skyrim did (though I doubt).

I know you're taking a jab at playstation players here, but not everyone loved what they saw, the reception was fairly divided across the board...

MrVux0001304d ago

I tip my fedora to fellow 'hatters'.

dumahim1304d ago

Or maybe don't blindly believe a game is going to great without having actually played it.

How delightfully meh. Will be a big win for Microsoft regardless though.

HardKnockKid241305d ago

There’s so much swirling about this game, but I haven’t experienced one BGS game I didn’t love pouring hundreds of hours into and I cannot wait for this. What a great time to be a gamer, God of War and then this within half a year of each other!

gamer91305d ago

I’m kind of addicted to re-starting new characters in their games to experiment with the best skills in each category. Their game worlds are always super detailed and fun to get lost in

HardKnockKid241305d ago

Agreed, I played Morrowind from scratch at least 10 times, Skyrim at launch, again this year and many times in between. I’m hyped!

They better Phantom Liberty the shit out of this game if they want a real success story on their hands, because as of now, this is no more than a $14.99 impulse buy during a PSN sale.

Rebel_Scum20d ago

It certainly has that morbid curiousity smell like Anthem did.

SimpleSlave20d ago

For sure, but only on a deep, and I mean deeeeep, sale.

Alek8320d ago

Oh boy, I can't recommend the vanilla version of Starfield to.... Anyone. I got the premium edition through an AMD deal for free, and still think I overpaid. Having said that, I had to buy Shattered Space because Star Wars Genesis stopped working without it, and that TC makes the game a LOT of fun. Per the Genesis forums, console versions will not be supported - so console owners will be stuck with the very subpar vanilla version of the game.

mkis00719d ago

Bethesda hasn't even had their developer continue with oblivion...why would I trust them here.

Star Wars Genesis Realises Starfield's Potential

Ahead of the new Knights of the Old Republic, some modders have turned Starfield into Star Wars Genesis. Is it the RPG we're looking for, or is it more like hokey religions and ancient blasters? This feature will shed some light.
