Posting images of messages that are too long to write through a regular post sure puts those mean toxic gamers in their place! Report and block, every site these days has these features and if you're not taking advantage of them then idk what to tell you. Words shouldn't hurt you when they come from someone who doesn't even have a face.

I think there’s a separation to make here. Are there toxic a-holes? Yes, of course but devs and media outlets lump in legit criticism and concerns from fans into the same pile constantly and a lot of times it’s these people that get dumped on by the devs, other fans and media way harder than the other. I think the main take away isn’t “Gamers are toxic”, I think it’s more a matter of people can be a-holes, let’s try not to perpetuate it, disengage and move on.

Some developers create player toxicity with pay-to-win, microtransactions, leaderboards, and no accessibility. Send your vitriol their way. Leave God of War alone.

The gamer base can be really pathetic at times.

Push back all you want but if you engage social media expect that you will encounter toxic behavior as it is a tool to act out in frustration for some. I'm not even sure why developers put themselves out there like that and then complain when the inevitable happens.

As they should push back. Some folks are saying just ignore them but sometimes ignoring doesn't work. If one has to make an example out of a**holes then so be it. In some instances some have to get a dose/taste of their own medicine.

devs shouldn't take shit from entitled people but sometimes devs can't take constructive criticism and will act like dicks. if you're putting out a good product, an actual good product, and you haven't done anything shady, then people will be more forgiving even if your game's bad. it's usually only when you lie about stuff and have questionable practices that people speak up on it. of course there are a small minority that will talk trash, either because they're entitled or just because they're trolling. either way, the latter should just be ignored. if the majority of the feedback and community is on your side, then they'll generally weed out the more toxic people. that being said, i feel like you've gotta build up at least a bit of a thick skin to be in any industry where you're putting a product into the masses. if you're genuine in your intentions, it's difficult for people to fault you on it if you fall flat. if you're todd howard, you deserve every bit of criticism you get.

I think gamers are right sometimes with games that do not deliver to expectations (halo infinite, battlefield, etc).

Sometimes gamers are stupidly wrong (the last of us part 2, zombie mode in call of duty WW2 having female zombies)

Developers should fight back but it won’t always be pretty.

There is a lot of toxicity in the world and particularly in the gaming world. We are experiencing one of the best times to be a gamer and people are out here making it seem like it's the worst time in history! The kids will never know the struggle of half assed games with no patches or buying a game that you didn't like with no way to get a refund. Spoiled generation doesn't know how good they have it. I'm just happy to have good games coming out on all the platforms. It's escapism, but people are trying to bring real world drama into the gaming realm by caring about a specific devs political affiliation and such. Let the games do the talking, who cares about anything else. Good games are good regardless if someone you don't like made the damn thing.

You see? Both play an important role. The difference being that when devs push back players get generalized. Players know full well most of the dev team is not responsible for the acts of the few higher ups.

It's almost never the developers release a game completely broken or build features that use loot box mechanics. It's leadership. It's their job to have an overall strategic plan with a desired state and a launch date in mind. They need to look at the game they're trying to built, look at the experience they have, and determine a realistic timeline that works for everyone working on the project.

It's leadership that falls short, thus creating deadlines that are impossible to meet, which applies insane pressure on the developers to perform. It's not the developers who should be receiving all the criticism, but the leadership because ultimately, they failed their team.

The developers are 9 times out of 10 gamers just like us and just want to build something they would enjoy playing.

I miss the good old days where you got your news from game magazines. No internet, no idiots, no platform for them to voice their vitriol. That’s was the sole reserve of school lunch breaks…

Tell me again how the multiplatform strategy was supposed to fix everything. Look at your results and compare them to Nintendo, which keeps thriving with exclusives. Your loyal fans are gone. And let’s not forget the pile of IPs you purchased only to let them rot.

The worst thing is this is down from last years numbers/expectations which was down from the previous years numbers/expectations. You think about how long “down” has been a consistent part of the communication and you realize those subscriptions are what’s holding that boat together. The price cut of gamespass is still a price raise in a string of price raises. They are trying to use players to offset the missing revenue. Now call of duty is out of gamespass, which is literally WHY they bought the company. To draw people to the subscription. They realized they missed a boatload of money and that wasn’t sustainable. Now you pay for it like you would have if they never bought the company… so why buy the company? Mind you those billions still need to be paid back. Yeah it gives you a chance to say we make the biggest FPS… but the internal conversations must be brutal at high level on topics that really matter. Like revenue. Profitability. And ROI for the shopping spree.
