This makes me so happy. Just bought a quest a month ago and was rather upset I had to reinstate my Facebook to use it

After another 232 billion in losses they will ditch the Meta in their name and go back to Facebook.

Facebook/Meta just wanted to track you, to leech every last bit of your privacy.
This changes nothing in this regard.

Your unique eye scan will be taken as soon as new device is equipped with so called "foveated rendering" with meaningless performance savings used as an excuse for tracking all your eye activity.

It's depressing how effective this is. Just look at all the comments here. People think this is a good change and saying "now I can get one". Really sad.

Just so we're clear. The lack of mandatory Pico account on the Quest 2 competitor Pico Neo 3 and the successor (to be released in late 2022) doesn't mean they're better. They can still leech a ton of data just because you need to install that chineese driver software on your PC. You'll never know what it collects. It's Chineese.

To understand how corporations see you, just look at how Facebook abandoned PC VR gaming for social VR, as they only focus on data collection and look how even Sony prioritized eye tracking crap over gaming features. It doesn't offer much. Probably like 30-40% performance boost. The tech isn't cheap. They could've lowered the price OR improve the device, with wider FOV for example. But they chose the foveated rendering. Why? Data. Even Sony realized it's a data gold mine. Tracking your eyes in VR is the holy grail of surveillence. They will know more about you than you know yourself. And even without eye tracking, you can accurately identify the person by how they move within VR.

There should be a company offering OFFLINE VR. With a guarantee that no data ever leaves your room.
I'm afraid this won't happen though. Ever. Because people are to ignorant and agree to those shady practices.

One account for another. They'll find their way back to getting your information. That's the goal. Don't be fooled.

Can't get it from Facebook? They'll get it directly from the headset from everything you do with Quest use and your Meta Account. And Quest Pro Eye Tracking, face tracking, hand tracking, who you play with, where you play, etc. They're not stupid to let that data and those billions go. They'll wait for acceptance over time while marketing how great having a Meta account is to the public.
