Elden Ring Makes Me Wish FromSoftware Would Do Something Else

Elden Ring is meant to be the evolution of the Souls formula. I wish FromSoftware would do something else instead.

I think you simply burned yourself out with the previous souls games tbh. If you have platinum trophies in every souls game, it's no wonder you would be bored with the formula by now. For those of us moderates who might have only beaten a couple of souls games (Demon Souls, Dark Souls 3, and Bloodbourne to be precise - still working on finishing Sekiro), Elder Ring is an absolute joy.

Maybe you should give yourself a break from souls games for a while, go play some other games for a couple of months, then come back to it. You'll see how much of a difference it makes.

Lilrizky1462d ago

Na I've platinumed them all and I still can't stop thinking about Elden Ring. Been watching lore videos.

yoshatabi1462d ago

I platinumed every single souls related game. I'm not burnt out at all personally. I hope they keep doing that they're doing

Sephiroushin1462d ago

Nah I have got plat on all of them and i still love elden ring, even if they are alike they are years away from each other; if the person played them all then yes it could burn you. Every game has only same base though, they all have stuff that chance how you play them

SDuck1462d ago

What games do you best recommend after Elden Ring for a 1st timer? I had Sekiro but I'm still struggling way too much

philm871462d ago

Demon's Souls remake is the easiest I've played. I find Bloodborne and Sekiro the toughest. Dark Souls 3 is probably in the middle somewhere.

Lilrizky1461d ago

Do it in the order they've released the games but the latest versions of them"

Demon's Souls (ps5)
Dark Souls remastered
Dark Souls 2 Scholar of the first sin (ps4)
Bloodborne
Dark Souls 3
Sekiro

Outside of maybe DS2 they all get gradually harder for first timers.

fitofficial1461d ago

I've platinumed them all and am still in awe of Elden Ring. The fact that there are probably 2-3 DLCs coming blows my mind.

Wish they would make a new tenchu, makes me sad that they were making one but turned unto Sekirio instead 😕

Eidolon1462d ago (Edited 1462d ago )

Fking loved Tenchu. Think they could nail it if they stay true to the genre, but I think by now FromSoftware is good at what it's known for and is sticking too its guns, super safe.. Tenchu would become something else.

outsider16241462d ago (Edited 1462d ago )

Loved Tenchu. But if they ever do one..I'd hope for some grounded ninja stuff and supernatural monsters like sekiro. But they gotta change their engine. It looks outdated now.

Sephiroushin1462d ago

Sekiro is the closer you will get, they actually made it because they wanted to develop a tenchu and thats what they got

neutralgamer19921462d ago

After the way ER had sold I doubt they will do something else anytime soon. They have done some very underated games in the past so if they can return to that it would be awesome

I just feel like the days of AA games are done. Now it seems publishers are only interested in making huge AAA titles or we have the indie scene. The days of having mid size publishers are long gone. Not every games need 50 million dollar budget

Elden Ring is a great game and great open world game but it's not the best Dark Souls type game. It does lose the atmosphere and some of what made Bloodborne and Dark Souls great by going open world. In the beginning it's cool seeing the new areas but you spend so much time in each area that eventually you know longer care about the open world aspect and just want to find that dungeon or thing you were looking for in the open world to move on. Also being able to get almost anywhere from the start does screw up the progression and some quests if you don't use a guide. If you go on the reddit there are a lot of people who don't know how important the side quests are and just follow the main quest and then they reach the Capital and say everything is too hard, or they don't have enough materials, or how were they supposed to find this NPC for some item they want. Then on the flip side there are the people who explore everywhere and find all the secret areas and items and then say the game is too easy and they aren't having fun because they got too strong doing areas they were meant to do later and are now back in mid game areas where they steamroll everything. Compared to a more curated linear design where things don't wear out their welcome and the progression is better to keep fights more balanced. I still love Elden Ring but i think they should keep the open world aspect to Elden Ring and it's sequels and if they make Dark Souls 4 or Bloodborne 2 return to the linear design.

I know that it's a souls style game in many ways, but Elden Ring is its own game with its own atmosphere. The idea that it "loses atmosphere" because it's not linear like Dark Souls is silly. Actually, it gains atmosphere - its own atmosphere.

If they are making another Dark Souls game, I doubt it'd be open like Elden Ring. From have shown that they can keep beloved mechanics while changing things up. Bloodborne and Elden Ring are proof of that.

The only 'problem' with Elden Ring is that the open-world makes the story feel a bit disjointed. From are already cryptic as it is with their storytelling, and now, depending on where you go and what you do first, the story can feel extremely WTFish at times.

on_line_forever1461d ago

Agreed , I love elden ring and I will still love it BUT I love the atmosphere and soundtrack in Dark souls & bloodborn much more and I agree with you again I hope they keep the open world aspect to Elden Ring and it's sequels and if they make Dark Souls 4 or Bloodborne 2 return to the linear design

why is that dumb? It's the same price everywhere else.

repsahj10d ago

Because it's Nintendo. Post negative first before analizing.

LiViNgLeGaCY10d ago

Because this is the ONLY version you can buy on the S2, correct? I don't think you can buy just the game for $60 like the other platforms. And if I'm wrong about this, then I take it back.

LiViNgLeGaCY10d ago

@repsahj - Dude, shut up. I like Nintendo a lot, actually. I just want the option to get the base game for $60 WITHOUT the DLC. I've done plenty of "analyzing".

Neonridr11d ago

Before anyone complains, this is the same price on PlayStation, Xbox and Steam. It comes with the Game and the DLC.

Elda10d ago

The game is $40 & the expansion is $40 so the price is right.

VersusDMC10d ago

The standard edition physical should have been 40 then with the expansion seperate. Why normalize 80 dollar games? Specially ports of old games.

If people accept this might as well make physical 80 dollar deluxe versions only.

repsahj10d ago

This $80 version is also available on PS5 and XSX.

VersusDMC9d ago

@repsahj

The ps5 has the standard version and the 80$ version so it gives you the choice...on switch 2 physical you can only buy the 80 dollar version.

I guess since they got the data that less than half of elden ring players beat the game and would probably not buy the DLC, they decided to just not make it an option and charge more...

GotGame81810d ago

Like it or not, the vast majority of game sales are digital. Just like movies, and music. At least Gamekey cards are shareable and you can sell them.
