This is exactly what I been telling to all my friends that have an X360. I ask them, why you continue buying the same console that have died on you like 3 or 4 times already? The thing is that they don't care, this is like something normal for them... Is like a trend were everybody wants to be part of it.

A few days ago I was watching a guy playing Fable II on justin.tv and his X360 went RRoD live in his broadcasting... Can you believe that? lol

Now to end my point; even knowing how much I like my PS3 because of the blu-ray, integrated wi-fi, MGS4, Resistance2, free online, DVD upscaling and the awesome backwards compatibility it provides me with PS1 and PS2, if the PS3 dies on me more than two times in a row I would have abandoned my loyalty and already went with other console.

Scared of getting one but I'm going to consider getting one just to see. Most of my co-workers have 360s I think I'm the only one with a PS3 :p. Theirs haven't RRoD on them as of yet. Though I mainly don't want to buy one until I know if that new chipset model actually helps keep the RRoD from happening. Until then I can only stick with the Wii PS3 for now, perhaps next year I will buy one if I haven't heard a lot of bad press on the new chipset model.

Can't really condone the behavior of this, Microsoft should have pulled all the stops to alleviate this problem from the get go, especially with the disc scratching.

I've always wondered why the heck so many people defend the 360 even though it's an unpredictable system hardware wise.... I guess they defend it because of the games, but reliable hardware in combination with good games makes for the perfect system, not good games and unpredictable hardware.

I will never consider buying an Xbox 360 until it's RROD free, until then I'm sticking with my PS3.... besides, most of the games on the 360 come out on the PC anyways (just stating facts) and I can get Alan Wake and Splinter Cell Conviction next year if I want without even having to buy a 360 because they will be on the PC.

If the 360 was as reliable as the PS3, I might consider getting one, but it's not, and for me a Xbox 360 is out of the question until Microsoft can produce reliable systems.

I have two XBOX 360 e no PS3. I'm very happy with my console but I don't write article against PS3. I simply believe PS3 isn't the system for have fun with friends. Blu Ray wasn't necessary for have High Definition games and I think stupid to pay more to have it. That's one of the reason why a choose XBOX 360 instead of PS3. Sony say Blu-ray is the future and maybe is true. But why risk my money? Why don't let somebody else take the risk?

I own a 360, and I'm on my 3rd because of RRoD. Am I unhappy about that? Yes. But MS have tried to address the issue, and every time my 360 has gone wrong it's been a simple job to get repaired for free.

i have only changed my 360 once when i went up from a pro to an elite. I play on my 360 at weekends for more then 5 hours +

but if your really that scared here is a tip. if your 360 RROD with in a year, just take it back to the retailer you bought it from and swap it. simple as that. no waiting 3 - 4 weeks for MS.

i don't deny the RROD is a problem, but is is way overblown now. my brother bought his 360 last year, It RROD on him 2 days before gears 2 was out. as he bought the 360 last november, he just took it back to the shop and swapped it.

"the system has red lights on it." can mean many things. The fancy ring that everyone associates with a defective Xbox is used to help diagnose problems with the system. The author fails to mention how many lights are on and if they are flashing. I can only assume he doesn't know since leaving out the details typically is a sign that someone didn't take the time to find out what the actual problem is.

The most common issue with red lights on a new console is a cord not plugged in all the way. Four flashing red lights indicates this and the first step in trouble shooting any issue is to disconnect and reconnect the cables. You would be surprised at how many people run into this issue. Obviously no trouble shooting was done for this since it is left out of the story. A call to Xbox Support at 1-800-4MY-XBOX would probably have taken care of this issue.

The author was convinced there was a problem before he bought the system. Nothing would have changed this which is what resulted in the story we see here. Is it possible the system was faulty? Sure. With each hardware revision the system becomes more stable, but any mass produced component can fail. It is just as possible it was a loose cord from the initial set up too. Writing a piece like this without any trouble shooting or details is simply sensationalism to support someones agenda.

RROD has been good for me...nothing like buying RROD 360s for 40-50 bucks and then spending a few hours repairing them and then either selling them or giving to friends. I know the fix doesnt last forever in a lot of cases but if i can get even a few months out of one then it is worth it for the small price. besides i havent had a fixed unit die yet.

This is a FORUM post & NOT NEWS. especially since this is someones OPINION & NOT NEWS

they are not going to magically fix all the 360s in the market right now. However, what many haven't realized is that with the Jasper models comes the new cooler running chips designed for those that have to send in a red ringed 360. I just got my 360 back yesterday from Texas and I can CONFIRM the new cooler, quieter running chips have found their way into the refurbed boxes. There is, I repeat there is a MAJOR DIFFERENCE in how quiet they run and they also run much cooler.

According to some sources the cooler running chip in the refurbs has been showing up in repair consoles for quite some time now and MS is aleady seeing a drastic number of faulty units coming back.

So the solution to the 360's RRoD has been released, but it is not magically going to find itself in a console sitting at home. However with the newer chips being replaced in the refurbs slowly but surely MS will be eliminating the RRoD all together.

i bought my 40" HDTV last year for $1500. i got it home and the remote censor was broken. initially, i was going to just accept it. the smarter half of myself smacked me in the head and i took it back and exchanged it. for $1500, i would have been a fricking RETARD to accept faulty hardware. my new TV works perfectly.

i bought my Playstation 3 in February 2007 for $600 ($650 with tax). so far, the machine hasn't given me any problems, but if it HAD, you bet your @ss i would have filed some sort of complaint with Sony. ESPECIALLY if the issues were as widespread and known like with the Red Rings.

Microsoft has gotten away with selling defective hardware for 3 years, and then BRIBED their userbase with an extended warranty.

the PS2 disc read errors weren't nearly as huge and widespread as the Red Rings, and the excuse back then was at least that DVD technology was still new and finding it's footing.

DVD has been around for 9 years now, and the technology in the Xbox 360 isn't so cutting edge that you just EXPECT some defects.

the PS3 had the unproven Blu Ray technology. the unproven Cell Technology, Wi Fi and Bluetooth components, and yet it has one of the lowest defect rates of any consumer electronic out there! and this is coming from SONY! SONY of all corporations, for Pete's sake! overheating laptop battery, DRM, upside down Playstation 1, DRE PS2, Sony, and yet they managed to release a damn near flawless console on a performance level.

this isn't Microsoft's first console, either. you'd think that, having done the original Xbox, they'd have learned a few things about console manufacturing. if this was their first console, i'd understand issues like the Red Rings, but i'd still want them to be fixed.

Microsoft put getting their console out first, just so they can boast about being number one in every press release, over releasing a quality piece of hardware for their consumers. and Xbox 360 fans lap it up.

Sony doesn't give a rats ass about us either, but at least my PS3 hasn't broken down yet, while three of my friends have had their 360's crap out on them. my 360 is fine, but that's because i bought it from my roommate, who had to have it repaired because the video output died on it. outside of some noise, i haven't had any problems with the console yet *knocks on wood*.

anyway, i think this story wasted an opportunity to open up discussion with Xbox 360 owners as to WHY they accept this broken hardware, and how anyone can go through 3 or 4 of the same machine. it's not like the multi-platform titles are sh*t anymore. Gears and Mass Effect are good, but are they really worth putting up with the chance that your system is going to crap out on you when the next big game hits?

if my 360 dies on me, well, that's it. i'm not compelled enough to get another one. Alan Wake and Star Ocean 4 look great, but i'm not buying a new console just to play them (i'm not covered by the 3 year warranty; since i bought it from my roommate, and the warranty has expired already).

the 360 is a good console, but Xbox 360 fans deserve hardware that works. afterall, they paid Microsoft for the product they were offering.

after 1 year manufacterer warranty run out, then come the RROD. the 360 have a time program to do so just like exactly one day after the 3 year warranty end. RROD mode turn on. lol

I am still on a launch console (as is my brother) as well as an elite model and no RROD. I don't deny them but I personally don't know anyone who has experienced it. I have seen two in stores behind closed cabinets that have RROD though. If your on you 5th or 6th console then I'd say your at fault as much as the hardware. Some people need to use common sense with electronics and not stack a handful of powered units on top of each other and stick them behind a closed cabinet. My cabinet is climate-controlled so that could very well be the reason I haven't RROD but I am on my second PS3 so dunno the answer. Either way I don't think MS is too terribly concerned because they are gaining sales and not losing them. Now the number of people who have dropped the 360 will never be known due to the price drop as much as anything but I think MS has moved on for the most part to the 720. With a Gears date of 2010 that pretty much confirms the new console will hit in the fall of that year. Now I love the 360 (but dislike MS as much as most people) and the PS3 but I purchase multiplatform titles on the 360 because they often look as good and most often better and because my friends prefer the MS console.

I had a 360, it just showed a single red light on me, error 68 or something, then it showed the 3 red lights, I got me a second 360, new and everything, just played with it for 4 days, now it doesn't want to read the games, I have a PS3 for 2 years n its still working perfectly, I have a Dreamcast, Genesis, Saturn, used to have a Gamecube,PS1, PS2 & SNES, none of those broke or died on me, just that damn 360(I had the original Xbox, sometimes the disc tray didn't want to open, but not a huge issue), it may have good software, but hardware is the worst ever in a console (scratching games, red lights, disc tray won't open) a lot going on with that system, damn!!!!

Yeah the hardware issue is hard to swallow, and more than once ive thought of ditching the 360. But as it stands there are so many good games for that system, many exclusive, that I kept it. Also the returning process isn't that painful. I now have a ps3, but am still not wowed by the exclusives its getting. I mostly use it for ps2 games and watching movies.

Ah, that was a breath of fresh air. I had a similar experience to that guy - I went through FOUR 360's in the space of two years, all of which red-ringed on me. Although MS were quick to replace them, I lost complete confidence in the system and have made the switch to the PS3. One year on, the PS3 has never even blipped or crashed - Sony's reputation for building rock-steady hardware shines through with the PS3 and I'm glad I made the switch as there's little point in owning both a 360 and a PS3.

All the PS3 hate recently has really got on my nerves. Despite having arguably better games throughout 2008 than its rivals, it seems like people are blind to this. Sony have worked really hard this year to get their best games out, they've released 'Home' now and everything seems to be going great.

I agree with the sentiment that more should be said about the spectacularly shoddy 360 hardware issues. It's a good machine which Micro$oft should have completely redesigned in the (red) light of these hardware problems by now. But they've carried on with it, so I doubt I'll ever buy another piece of MS hadware again.

For me it is a case of weighing the good with the bad, MS despite there Xbox-360 hardware problems have pretty much done everything else right, people want what they have to offer with games and the overall service, Sony had the same issues with the PS2 but it had a lot of quality games so they were forgiven.
