Elden Ring is a masterclass in content reuse

FromSoft turns an artisanal eye to how – and when – to reuse content for maximum impact in The Lands Between.

anast1505d ago

The cokies thing on this site is annoying. But I still scrolled a read between the boxes and it's a solid article.

senorfartcushion1505d ago

Content reuse is a nice word for asset flipping.

lonewolf101505d ago

No it isn't, they are not the same.

FlavorLav011505d ago (Edited 1505d ago )

I like how Horizon 2 got poked fun of for re-using the repel animation and some screen flicker but not much mentioned in reviews about the re-use of entire creatures in Elden Ring like the same exact crab used from Dark Souls 3 - which is supposed to be a different IP all together, and also no points taken away for the frame shaky performance. Biased media much?…

spicelicka1505d ago

Unless you're talking about the exact same reviewer making the exact same conflicting points about the two games you are just reaching deep. There are hundreds of reviews and opinions out there, even on the same site reviews are often done by different people with different opinions. Maybe the shaky performance is overshadowed by other parts of the game being beyond great.

buffig1504d ago

I don't even think it was a reviewer who said this. I think it was just a comment on a forum or Twitter which gained exposure for being so ridiculous, then it took on a life of its own. I don't think any review seriously took away points in their review score

VerminSC1505d ago (Edited 1505d ago )

When you have hundreds of enemy types it’s a little different. Elden ring has enough content to fill 3 games. Hell, 1 legacy dungeons can take 10+ hours.

Tacoboto1505d ago

Exactly. I've seen areas full of giants, full of huge lobsters, dudes with statue helmets, a bridge of giant statues, minotaurs, spirit minotaurs, knights, spirit knights, copper-colored knights that have insane health, big bats, troll-looking bats, normal wolves, white wolves, giant wolves with bat bodies, a huge span of land with dragons everywhere, a really fat thing that rolls, cat-like statues, some angry lion-types, big crabs, little crabs, angry flowers, hanging giant skeleton things, frog-eyed lizards that breathe death, white puffy things that blow on little horns that create painful bubbles.

I could keep going but at some point I'm just going to start randomly matching adjectives and nouns

dmonee1505d ago

I’ve seen a giant with a pumpkin head smashing it into the ground. Now I have a metal pumpkin helmet. I despise this game, it’s dirty, cheap, and frustrating. For some reason I keep playing it, swearing out loud, and making my family mad.

why is that dumb? It's the same price everywhere else.

repsahj21d ago

Because it's Nintendo. Post negative first before analizing.

LiViNgLeGaCY20d ago

Because this is the ONLY version you can buy on the S2, correct? I don't think you can buy just the game for $60 like the other platforms. And if I'm wrong about this, then I take it back.

LiViNgLeGaCY20d ago

@repsahj - Dude, shut up. I like Nintendo a lot, actually. I just want the option to get the base game for $60 WITHOUT the DLC. I've done plenty of "analyzing".

Neonridr21d ago

Before anyone complains, this is the same price on PlayStation, Xbox and Steam. It comes with the Game and the DLC.

Elda21d ago

The game is $40 & the expansion is $40 so the price is right.

VersusDMC21d ago

The standard edition physical should have been 40 then with the expansion seperate. Why normalize 80 dollar games? Specially ports of old games.

If people accept this might as well make physical 80 dollar deluxe versions only.

repsahj21d ago

This $80 version is also available on PS5 and XSX.

VersusDMC20d ago

@repsahj

The ps5 has the standard version and the 80$ version so it gives you the choice...on switch 2 physical you can only buy the 80 dollar version.

I guess since they got the data that less than half of elden ring players beat the game and would probably not buy the DLC, they decided to just not make it an option and charge more...

Like it or not, the vast majority of game sales are digital. Just like movies, and music. At least Gamekey cards are shareable and you can sell them.
