Bad Day EA

Despite the holiday season traditionally being a good time to release and establish new intellectual properties, both Mirror's Edge and Dead Space performed poorly. Marketing certainly wasn't an issue, nor was the critical acclaim, as they both received good to decent reviews. Instead, the failure of Dead Space and Mirror's Edge is likely due to the current worldwide economic crisis.

I bought Dead space for $30.

Going to rent Mirror's Edge.

The Great Melon6359d ago

Ah, that sounds like the Black Friday sale at Target. Got it there too.

Proxy6359d ago

And immediately says "we need a way to stop rentals a second hand sales on the consoles".

Just like they do on the PC.

shovelbum6359d ago

I bought both games and love Dead Space while Mirror's Edge was a good game but has limited replay IMO. Dead Space has sold a little over 1 million copies per VGC so I'm not sure that equals a bad day for EA.

prowiew6359d ago

I will probably buy those games next year when I will find them at $20 to $25.

dead space is an awesome game just awesome. i wish more ppl would try it out cause its just amazing. i lov ethe zero g environments and the zero oxygen. one of the most epic boss fights in history.

Sangria6359d ago

You mean... "Oh a corpse *bleuargh* He was still alive !".

Dead Space and Mirror's Edge are incredible experiences, for sure. But the movie Dead Space is absolutly horrible.

austere6359d ago (Edited 6359d ago )

Dead Space is the best. Too bad. Still trying to rent Mirrors Edge. Always checked out.

gambare6359d ago (Edited 6359d ago )

something weird is happening, great games having low sales, Dead space is a great game but with poor sales, same with mirror edge, what's happening? is the taste of the new gamers that bad?

edit: funny "Instead, the failure of Dead Space and Mirror's Edge is likely due to the current worldwide economic crisis. "

if they were PS3 exclusives they would said it were Sony's fault instead the world economy

"if they were PS3 exclusives they would said it were Sony's fault instead the world economy"

Someone give this man a prize.

ukilnme6359d ago

*sigh*

Enough with the anti PS3 conspiracy theories already. It's old and tired.

One of the reasons these games aren't doing well is EA's reputation. I for one will never buy an ea game until I know someone respectable who has played it and recommends it. Not to mention I heard dead space's story is short.. paying full price for a short single player experience and no mp.. in today's age, that's unacceptable.. at least on the xbox 360 it is.

DarkArcani6359d ago

People with your mentality find any game without mp unacceptable. So you would rather they botch some worthless mp on to an awesome game and just add crap on to the game to make the sp longer.

Its a great game, and most people i know played it more than twice.

DARK WITNESS6359d ago (Edited 6359d ago )

ok, couple of things....

i have never owned an EA game till Dead Space, for the same reason.

I gave Army of two a try and took it back with 2 days, i only got up to the 3rd stage, i thought it was that bad.

Dead space is a game you must play. The story is not short. If you get through games quick then i would say play it straight off on the hard setting. but it is worth it. I got through RFOM 2 faster then i got through dead space.

its one of those games you think its going to end soon, but it just seems to keep going on. its conclustion is very satisfying.

i have posted a lot about not buying EA games because of their quality, but i have to say dead space has changed my views on that.

this is just my opinion as a gamer, but dead space is my game of the year for the single player experience. i would pick it over gears 2 and Resistance 2. The only other game that i have enjoyed as much is Fallout 3.

at least rent it. I had a friend who kept saying it was not his type of game and he was not going to play it. he came round my house and played up to level 6 and really enjoyed it.

he went home and bought it and told me he just wanted to finish it and he would swap it. he is now playing it for his 3rd time through. whats funny ( and this is what i found with the game ) is even after he had played the first half round my place, he still got scared playing it on his own just at the first level.

plus, there are no bugs, glitches etc, no day one patch.

i give it a 10/10.

edit; oh and did i mention the story is really cool with a nice twist towards the end. my friend who played it thought he had the whole story sorted after the second stage, i didn't give anything away.. he called me when he had finished it because he enjoyed it so much.

"Be creative 99% of the time" – Glen Schofield on how creativity can help fix AAA industry woes

I don't agree with that. I WISH I could agree with that. But buying habits and customer opinions prove otherwise

We've seen developers in the AAA space try new things and ideas. More often than not, the customers aren't willing to give things a chance, or not enough people buy into the project for it to grow.

Creativity works better in the indie space because the budgets, pressures, and expectations aren't the same.

Scissorman28d ago

it's a nice idea and it worked during the PS2/PS3-era when AAA didn't cost hundreds of millions of dollars. smaller budgets and shorter development time left room for more creativity and more risk. a game didn't need to sell 4 million+ copies to break even. things are different now.

This is the guy who bragged about crunching his staff and having them work through the night. Crunch culture has lost more talent and done more damage to the industry than any other factor. Screw him.
