I was glad to see this come back. I feel like people just hate on everything. Not everything needs to be a AAA game. I just hope they don't trash this up with woke ass crap.

gamer78041548d ago

I hope not either but this preview looked a bit rough. Hopefully it improves before release.

CrimsonWing691548d ago (Edited 1548d ago )

Here’s the problem:

I’m not sure if you ever played a Valkyrie Profile game, but this looks and plays unlike either the PS1 or PS2 game.

It also looks like a game in alpha with the large empty corridor environments and 2-3 enemies you fight in them.

So, I feel like people being upset is kind of warranted here.

SurgicalMenace1548d ago

Why? It's Square's right to exercise their creative freedom however they choose. If you don't like it, don't buy it. This current community of gamers are far too needy to be doing nothing but expressing their unsolicited opinions. The game looks fun; if you want better, then stop trying to find everything wrong with what's shown. Who said that they had to take your input into consideration? Last I checked, Square is a billion dollar company, so someone is enjoying what they're making.

jambola1548d ago

It plays like a ps1 game?
Could you send over you copy? You got very early access so I'd love to have a turn too

CrimsonWing691547d ago (Edited 1547d ago )

@SurgicalMenace

Nobody said they can’t do that. The comment was geared towards why people may not be out of line for complaining about it.

I don’t know what you watched that “looked fun”, I didn’t see anything that stood out as fun, but different strokes for different folks. That or there’s a clear differentiation in standards of fun for a game.

Again, I never said they needed my input on anything. I’m sorry my comment based on observation of what was shown and my experience with the previous games got your panties in a bunch. I don’t think saying why we’re not impressed by a game is a bad thing especially when we’re fans of the IP…

And yea, I never said I didn’t enjoy some of the stuff they’re making. Huge fan of the FF7 Remake, right here.

@jambola

I think I get what you’re saying here, but I also think you misread what I said. I said it DOESN’T play like the PS1 game or PS2 game. You may want to actually YouTube some gameplay of those games and come back to have a discussion here. And as for sending over a copy of anything, No go get your own.

VersusDMC1548d ago

Well it looks bland, generic gameplay, not developed by Tri Ace...you don't have to defend it because they put Valkyrie in the title. I would rather play gameplay homages like Exist Archive or Indivisable.

kythlyn1548d ago

I've never wanted to both upvote and downvote a comment so much.

FinalFantasyFanatic1548d ago

I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who thinks this game looks rough or bare bones, I was excited when I initially heard the news, and then most of my excitement evaporated with that trailer. I'm really disappointed they went with generic looking action combat, and I don't even know if that's just stylized graphics or if they're going for an enhanced PS2 look or something.

One of my favorite franchises has returned but I'm wondering if Square Enix can even handle it properly anymore.

RPGer1548d ago

Square Enix can't handle things properly anymore unless it called Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest. The few exceptions are Tomb Raider (the first),Guardian of Galaxy and Nier Automata and Octopath (basically 2.5D FF game). The rest (most) of their IPs are really in the scale of really bad ~ meh good, like Outriders, left alive, Avenger, the continuities of KH, Star Ocean: IAF, Bablyon Fall, etc.

pietro12121548d ago

Also Octopath was more similar to a Saga game than FInal Fantasy

SurgicalMenace1548d ago

Now that it's been said, perhaps you'd like to step up and show them how it's done, huh? I've never seen one example of greatness that's delivered greatness all the time. Every album, series, movie, etc. has moments in them that we'd rather not experience. What do we do? Skip those moments to experience our favorite parts. Expectations have become so grossly inflated, while none having them has done anything to address them beside cry about it.

FinalFantasyFanatic1548d ago

@RPGer,

I couldn't agree with you more, except they struggle with FF games, anything after X has been a washout except for A Realm Reborn and World of Final Fantasy. Not only that, but I expect this game to flop in SE's eyes, because they consider TWEWT NEO and Guardians of the Galaxy to be a flop (although I think SE just had ridiculous expectations for those games).

Chriswynnetbh1548d ago

@SurgicalMenace Why continue to defend a company that does nothing but try to sell to it's fans based on nostalgia alone instead of putting out actual decent games. They know all they need to do is slap FF or another one of their old ips that people are nostalgic about onto a new title and it'll at least sell enough for them to profit. You don't need to be a game developer to have solid criticism about a company that wants nothing but to take your money. Why do you think they have like 20 live service mobile games riddled with mtx that are covered in FF characters/names/lore? It's clear their main focus as a game developer nowadays is to milk their existing ips for as much as their worth while putting in as little possible effort to actually delivery something.

ps360owner09 and RPGer

There’s been only only mainline FF that used real time gameplay and that is 15 and soon to be 16(out of how many games?) but we don’t even know the RPG system that it’ll used knowing the team working on it’ll be deep. FF is still through though a RPG franchise no matter what you

Chevalier1548d ago

I want to give it a try. But honestly if they just remade the original I would be ecstatic

CDbiggen1548d ago

It looks like so many other games coming out at the moment.

FinalFantasyFanatic1548d ago

If you never told me this was Valkyrie Profile beforehand, I wouldn't know any different, hard pass for me at this moment (can we at least get a remaster or port of the older games?).

Vits1548d ago

Yeah, that is the issue here. Honestly, if you showed me just the footage without saying anything I would think is a Kickstarter RPG that will have to remodel itself down the road. At least for now, nothing in this game reminds me of the originals.

Lexreborn21548d ago

I missed this franchise, valkyrie profile lenneth on psp was my jam. When I rebought a psp that was one of the titles I had to buy again

jznrpg1548d ago (Edited 1548d ago )

Smaller games are fine to me . I’m happy they are bringing things back . It may not be perfect or whatever but they can work on that with future games . Considering it’s been closer to 20 years or whatever a lot has changed and they need to figure out how to bring some older stuff back and what works and what doesn’t . I’m buying it and I’ll give them my feedback and hope for more of games like these that I love from the past .

Valkyrie Elysium PC Review | NoobFeed

NoobFeed Editor Azfar Rayan writes - There's little doubt that Square Enix will put more effort into developing the stories and characters in the future. Having all the elements necessary to become a classic, VALKYRIE ELYSIUM is a bit inconsistent experience despite having a great gameplay mechanism. At the same time, its uninspired story and level design could have been better.
