This is how open world should done

Thank you maiazaki thank you fromsoftware team

It's a fantastic game so far, but man I wish they would get a new engine... The frame rate drops can be pretty jarring. You'd think they would have figured this out after all the Souls games. If this were running at a locked 60 FPS it would be incredible.

TheEnd4Me1527d ago

yeah the framerate is atrocious and I don't see people discussing it enough. The framerates are never at a stable 60fps.

MeatyUrologist1527d ago

Yep, just imagine this world and atmosphere with the visuals of forbidden west. Would be mindblowing. I feel like japanese developers don't put enough emphasis on graphics while western devs maybe put too much on them.

Eidolon1527d ago

I feel so much more incentivized to actually explore unlike a lot of open world games.

Nerdmaster1527d ago

I hardly ever get something actually useful from exploring, so I don't feel compelled to explore as much as many other open world games.
I get a lot of spells (I'm a melee character), ashes of war (that don't mix with my build and make weapons weaker), different (but not necessarily stronger) weapons that don't fit my stats, armor pieces that are weaker than my current ones, quests don't have interesting plots...
If it wasn't for the items that expand and strengthen flasks, which are a necessity for me to have a chance against bosses, I would just go straight to the next main quest objectives.

ArchangelMike1526d ago

Absolutely. I'm amzed at the stuff I constatly find... especially the fact that there are mini-bosses practically everywhere. So glad they didn't take the cheap noobie route that western devs take and fill the map with clutter. They left it up to the player to place different markers on the map if they want to - which is such a simple, but genious idea.

Eidolon1526d ago

I have no ideas for builds and haven't looked at what is possible or best. And yeah @Archangelmike, it's thrilling to have just run into a random boss when discovering a new area or just exploring more of what was uncovered by a map, that maybe you weren't sure you have explored before, and it definitely helps to mark. I haven't had too much time with it but I've been frequently re-attempting bosses to nail down their moves, trying out different equipment I find, hone in a good "playstyle" or "build".

Seraphim1527d ago

it's not even just the open world. Their level design has always been a shining jewel of their games and Elden Ring, despite being open world, doesn't disappoint. obviously there is so much more to the game too... 2 cents

CrimsonWing691527d ago

Look, I hate open world games and this has me hooked! I don’t feel like I’m just clearing out compounds and doing busy work. Everything I explore and do feels organic and each has some kind of interesting reward. Simply put, this is truly how open world games should be.

"Why your opinion isn't right."

I hate these opinion articles that try to tell people what to think. If it begins with the word "why", it's 99% guaranteed to be garbage.

I don't understand how they can make a game this large this amazing. It blows my mind. There is absolutely no excuse for empty open worlds now.

pietro12121527d ago

“There is absolutely no excuse for empty open worlds now.” That’s been the case, it’s not a Ubisoft game

"Why Elden Ring is Better Than You Thought"

I never understand these articles, do you control my mind or something? I'll make my own mind up what I think of games or films etc thanks

jambola1527d ago

Yeah it's really weird
Honestly, my Instant reaction to stuff like this is "no, it's exactly as good as I think, and it's exactly as good as you think it is, or any individual thinks it is"

IanTH1527d ago (Edited 1527d ago )

It's obviously not "Why Elden Ring is Better Than EvertonFC Thought". It's basically just a call to those who went, huh, I can't put my finger on it but this game turned out better than I thought. That, fwiw, happens to include me this time. I haven't been a fan of previous Souls games, but I'm really loving this one.

There are plenty other "You" articles that have nothing to do with me. Not all of them will. Just a title format that requires people to assume the author can't possibly know what everyone in the world thinks about a given topic, and that it is addressed towards those who self identify with the statement being made.

GoodGuy091528d ago

I had little expectations for the open world as a guy that gets burnt out of it quick. But man....it just kept getting better and better, blew my expectations out of the water. Beat the game with 60hrs. Amazing experience and had fun every minute of it. I'll wait til they fix the stuttering issues until I go back for ng+. Open worlds need to be full of wonder, discovery, and have great reward for exploration just like this game. The title says it all. Even newcomers will be able to play it too because you have so many options and I've seen many of them enjoy it myself. From has done it again but even better.

why is that dumb? It's the same price everywhere else.

repsahj32d ago

Because it's Nintendo. Post negative first before analizing.

LiViNgLeGaCY31d ago

Because this is the ONLY version you can buy on the S2, correct? I don't think you can buy just the game for $60 like the other platforms. And if I'm wrong about this, then I take it back.

LiViNgLeGaCY31d ago

@repsahj - Dude, shut up. I like Nintendo a lot, actually. I just want the option to get the base game for $60 WITHOUT the DLC. I've done plenty of "analyzing".

Neonridr32d ago

Before anyone complains, this is the same price on PlayStation, Xbox and Steam. It comes with the Game and the DLC.

Elda32d ago

The game is $40 & the expansion is $40 so the price is right.

VersusDMC32d ago

The standard edition physical should have been 40 then with the expansion seperate. Why normalize 80 dollar games? Specially ports of old games.

If people accept this might as well make physical 80 dollar deluxe versions only.

repsahj32d ago

This $80 version is also available on PS5 and XSX.

VersusDMC31d ago

@repsahj

The ps5 has the standard version and the 80$ version so it gives you the choice...on switch 2 physical you can only buy the 80 dollar version.

I guess since they got the data that less than half of elden ring players beat the game and would probably not buy the DLC, they decided to just not make it an option and charge more...

GotGame81831d ago

Like it or not, the vast majority of game sales are digital. Just like movies, and music. At least Gamekey cards are shareable and you can sell them.
