Holy hell. And to hold off on revealing it until release day is incredibly telling.

Jin_Sakai1414d ago

I think when they pull crap like this reviewers should go back and re-review the game and drop points. This is a bs move.

neutralgamer19921414d ago

issue is by than most who wanted the game have gotten it. Publishers have figured out to release games without MT than once few weeks pass introduce them. this way game gets great scores, sells well and publishers get what they want MT

Orbilator1414d ago

Mt are optional, if your rubbish and can't earn credits in game it gives you any easy way out, I never needed to use any microtransactions in GT sport and this will be no different so stop whining about your incompetence

itsmebryan1414d ago

That's why they leave it out in the review version. This way Developers keep that part out of the review so they can avoid the heat from microtransactions. Smh

Dee_911414d ago

well i may just be a stupid fanboy but i always thought the issue with MT's were putting in game items exclusively behind MT's? The price increase is way too steep though

Atom6661414d ago

Yeah, leaving prices out prior to reviews is shady and intentional. Having MTX options isn't offensive to me, and it sounds like it's fair enough to grind through.

I never really mind publishers targeting whales with some MTXs. But hiding them from reviews and the "click to top up" option deserve the backlash from media & fans.

peppeaccardo1414d ago (Edited 1414d ago )

Race -> win -> earn credit -> buy car -> race -> tune up -> move to higher race tier -> repeat
Feels like you all want everything at once. Take your time to enjoy the game. I am 15 hours in and I did not have to spend a dime. In gt sport I played for months and did not spent a cent … moreover new cars and track and events will be added so just enjoy, stop bitching or go play Forza Arcade Horizon.

fr0sty1413d ago

As long as you can still earn the cars for free without grinding for a year, I don't see the issue. If people want to be lazy and blow money on things they could get for free, sure, milk the hell out of them for every cent they're worth.

outsider16241413d ago (Edited 1413d ago )

I was just going through all the comments and you know I'm actually curious:
1. Why are the guys who are pissed off at this when you know you aren't going to buy the cars. I know i won't.
2. Does this mean that you guys actually buy cars for 5$? But i thought everyone hated MTs and won't buy it when you can earn it ingame.
3. Always online, well, that im pissed off as well. They finally have a campaign mode and bloody hell its always online.

I played gt sport a hell lot. And not once did i pay real money for a car. And I've got close to 40 cars.

By the way in now way am i supporting this atrocious price increase. 40$ for a car...lmao.
Come on i can earn ingame for that. Where's the sense of accomplishment then when you can just buy it. This tells me a lot of guys here actually buy the cars for 5$ and then complaining of MTs.

DarXyde1413d ago

Yeah, it's pretty awful. Reminds me of the sunny EA pulled with UFC advertisements.

Seriously hoping Sony corrects course here. Starting to see some outlandish practices from them.

Fans, you know what to do.

Rhythmattic1413d ago (Edited 1413d ago )

Outsider...
Of course , no reasoning as to what it means to actual players , unlike those that will never play it.

Ive never ever payed for anything on GT.. Yes, of course earring credits can be a grind, But , its always been achievable.... and not only that, you learn new things by re running a course etc..

To be clear.. Ill never slap down any extra money on a game. MWII was the last time I did that.

Buy it, or dont...
But I imagine, and this is where it's important... As before, you can only buy your way to the offer that is your level...
Right or wrong?
Yeh.. still hate the Idea.... But Driving isnt how good the car you have, its how you drive THAT car.
Just my 5cents in Oz money.

Orbilator1412d ago

And as if to prove my point the update to this article tells you microtransactions are all optional and article was misleading.. enough said, just more n4g click bait

VersusDMC1414d ago

Well they would have said in the review if it's hard to get credits ingame. If it isn't then this isn't an issue.

A lot of games give you the option to buy in game currency if you don't want to earn it in game. DMC and GTA come to mind.

JEECE1414d ago (Edited 1414d ago )

I was wondering if this is going to feel like Shadow of War at launch where the game felt designed around pushing you toward MTs. I haven't played it, but I've heard the most recent Tales game was like that as well.

VersusDMC1414d ago

@JEECE

The tales of Arise did not feel like that.
I got addicted to the combat system that i maxed out the levels and platinumed the game. I have played zestiria and Berseria and i didn't platinum those.

Just because a developer adds MT doesn't mean the game is changing or is becoming worse. I honestly would prefer MT getting added to a game that a half baked multiplayer mode to a single player series.

MTs are easy to implement for most people to easily ignore but Multiplayer is a strain on the development team for no pay off.

--Onilink--1414d ago

@JEECE

If you are referring to Tales of Arise, the issue with that one was only that you would get a notice about the shop everytime you camped, but in terms of gameplay nothing was geared towards MTs, especially considering the MTs are mostly costumes.

It also got patched out eventually

coolbeans1414d ago

-"A lot of games give you the option to buy in game currency if you don't want to earn it in game. DMC and GTA come to mind."

Right, but that's fundamentally part of the concern: are they subtly tweaking their design philosophy and xp rewards in order to lift up that "optional" microtransaction route. I mean... COME ON, bruv. Up to $40 for ONE vehicle. Now I'm not ignorant of the usual battle pass system or premium content, but those typically come in the form of multiple outfits won over time. Forza's car packs look like child's play compared to this.

VersusDMC1414d ago

@coolbeans

You're comparing 40$ for cars you can unlock WITHOUT paying to premium content or battle passes that you HAVE to pay to get. And battle passes are paying AND playing to unlock. If i hear it's a grind to get credits them it's an issue...but that's not what reviews are saying.

So what you're telling me is that you would prefer to have to pay for cars cheaper than earn them by playing the game for free?

Knushwood Butt1413d ago

I read the article and reading between the lines of its outrage, it's saying that if you have zero in-game credits, and want that particular Porsche, you can spend $40 of real money to get it, and you'll still have credits left over after that.
Not that the Porsche costs $40, which seems to be an attention grab.

For what it's worth, I don't understand why that car is so higly valued when you can get an equivalent Toyota TS050 Hybrid '16 for 1/3 of the cost.

coolbeans1413d ago

-"You're comparing 40$ for cars you can unlock WITHOUT paying to premium content or battle passes that you HAVE to pay to get. And battle passes are paying AND playing to unlock."

Actually, that battle pass analysis isn't correct for many popular titles. You don't HAVE to pay to opt in for these rewards either, but can purchase levels in said pass to reach the better rewards at any time.

-"If i hear it's a grind to get credits them it's an issue...but that's not what reviews are saying."

Okay... but how is it not suspicious to consider that it IS grindy, given that Polyphony spent time developing this microtransaction supplement in the first place? What exactly constitutes it being considered a 'grind' in this case?

-"So what you're telling me is that you would prefer to have to pay for cars cheaper than earn them by playing the game for free?"

Huh? I'd just prefer if this option was cheaper and wasn't snuck in like this.

@Knushwood

-"Not that the Porsche costs $40, which seems to be an attention grab."

How do you claim to read the article yet disregard so much simple context? Yes, the principle idea is if your starting point is 0. If you're starting out: to reach the credit threshold for *x car* you need to get *y amount of credits*. Since the (current) pricing model is structured like it is, you'll HAVE to pay at least $40 (2 separate 2mil credit packs for $20 or 1 2mil credit pack & 2 750k credit packs) to have enough. Whether you have credits left over doesn't disregard the initial hurdle to reach that point.

Knushwood Butt1413d ago

250,000 credits – $4.99 / £3.99
750,000 credits – $9.99 / £7.99
2,000,000 credits – $19.99 / £15.99

3,000,000 credits to buy that Porsche is $34.97

coolbeans1413d ago

@KnushwoodButt

Exactly. Now, let's hypothetically say you started GT7 at 0 credits and wanted to IMMEDIATELY get that Porsche (for whatever reason). How much will you have to spend to make that a reality?

Knushwood Butt1413d ago

$34.97

I've played for about 10 hours and have 268,000 credits and 20 cars in my garage.

I've also got 1,000,000 credits waiting for me when I register the code I have for buying the 25th anniversary edition.

Enjoy!

coolbeans1413d ago

@Knushwood

Heh... fair catch on that one. But you do see your Porsche example isn't the highest value listed in this article, right? Unless you want to be insanely semantic, there's no avoiding this title's current $40 claim regarding the Aston Martin or McLaren P1.

Knushwood Butt1413d ago

Yes, a 3.3M car would require $39.98

And you would be left with 700,000 credits.

'Now a Porsche 919 Hybrid 16, which can be bought for $2.99 in Gran Turismo Sport, can only be bought for 3,000,000 credits, which would require the player to spend at least $40.'.

Is flat out factually incorrect.

I won't be spending a penny on these credits; I'll just play the game. So far have only procured 1 car in game, a Mazda Demio or Mazda 2, and that was using in-game credits. Driven 500km in total and have about 23 cars in my garage.

And with that, leaving this thread.

Just say Thank you to the idiots that paid $5 for a horse gold armor 😡 20 years ago
Oh I also forgot season pass as well

paulust20021414d ago

Dude that was the beginning of the end lol

coolbeans1414d ago

Saying no to horse armor or season passes wouldn't have stopped other companies from trying different revenue streams.

CantThinkOfAUsername1414d ago

It was a $0.99 Horse Armour in a single-player game that found interest on Xbox 360.

dumahim1414d ago

The MT were already known, but I don't think the price was.

badz1491414d ago

bummer that they already have this on day 1. at least with GTS, they didn't offer it after quite some time. I have never spent a dime on GTS as all cars can be bought using the very generously rewarded credits. I have heard that earning credits is a bit of a chore in GT7 compared to GTS but every GT before this has been like that where you really have to play a lot to have more credits, as it should be, but MT from day 1? as optional as this would be, I still think that they should have waited.

EveryPlatformGamer1413d ago (Edited 1413d ago )

Disgusting, what a joke... i think the most glaring issue with this game i feel is the always online part.
i have bought every gt game going back to ps1 but did not buy this yet because knowing that if i buy it and my internet goes down or in years to come when the servers are closed i wont be able to play.

This is unacceptable, if i buy a physical copy of a game i should be able to stick it into the console and play it regardless of how old it is.
this is worrying for me as i love to collect my games and if this becomes the norm, you can kiss your collections goodbye as will be forced to buy the newer game to play, for better or worse.
this is planned obsolescence at its finest.

Gamers should not support this type of practice.
Funny how quick the fanboys forget... i remember at xbox ones launch how much of an uproar people had due to the notion of always online etc... now generation on, sony is doing exactly that...

ScootaKuH1413d ago

But it IS entirely optional. There isn't a single thing in the game you need to pay real money for. As it's a racing game maybe people need to try to actually race to earn those credits. Radical thinking I know.

Tacoboto1414d ago

On top of this, when it displays your balance after you gain more credits, the UI has a "Top up on PlayStation Store" action. Every time.

Sony has to consider this to be one of their 10 GaaS titles; between the always-online requirement, 17GB Day One Patch, predatory credit pricing, and inability to disable those prompts, GT7 is not something we've seen from any of their recent games...

1414d ago Replies(1)
CDbiggen1414d ago

Ah that would take me right out of the game. Surprisingly considering GT's style is this cozy immersive car-loving world, and to have blatant prompts to spend real money appear to ruin that mood.

Extermin8or3_1413d ago

@Tacoboto it's not a bullshit reason if you knew anything about the matter. They HAVE to have the online only requirement as part of their agreement with the FIA to prevent cheating as in previous games people found ways to edit their game save to give themselves credits AND to basically make cars faster than they should be. Now given its the same engine the title is running on - I guess there is a concern that people could work out how todo the same thing again. So to protect against save data meddling giving an unfair advantage in competitions and in people's advancement preceding and leading into competitions they've made it online only in order to be able to save same as they had to with GT Sport.

Imalwaysright1413d ago

Yes it is bullshit. There is no reason have an online requirement to experience what it is supposed to be the single player campaign and did you even read this article? People can get as many credits as they want just by opening their wallets so your "fairness" argument falls flat in less than 1 second. PD wants gamers to have an advantage and the difference is that instead of having to find an exploit they want gamers to pay for it and let's cut the crap shall we? The reason as to why they made this game online only it's because this is a live service game just like GT sport was.

brewin1413d ago

Right, it's for our protection that they're doing online only🙈🤣 GTFO with that. Blind fanboyism is a disease

thank you jim ryan, you are amazing head of playstation s/

First time ever sony playstation is led by a suit who only cares about numbers. So many actual gamers who led different playstation divisions have left playstation. To this day i don't understand why uncle jack left, and than followed by andrew house/shawn layden. Andrew house rebuilt playstation along with help from others and Kaz left too

Obscure_Observer1414d ago (Edited 1414d ago )

"First time ever sony playstation is led by a suit who only cares about numbers."

You can blame Yoshida for Sony´s recent scummy moves. I don´t think Ryan is the one to blame in this case.

Since Yoshida took over as CEO at Sony, I been saying that things would drastically change since he has a career in the financial market. So it´s nothing but obvious to expect changes in the company´s goals.

Since he took over Playstation, games are now on PC, Mobile and other consoles, costing 70$, always online with MTs, paid upgrades, re-releases and remasters of recent games, not to mention their rumored focus on more GaaS games in development.

neutralgamer19921414d ago

Kenichiro Yoshida

You are right. But for a company generating 80+ billion yearly and assets of 250+ billion they should be run better. I am glad they are going the PC route more gamers get to play. I just don't want them to chase the games as service type money because that's where greed comes in

Obscure_Observer1413d ago

"You are right. But for a company generating 80+ billion yearly and assets of 250+ billion they should be run better. I am glad they are going the PC route more gamers get to play. I just don't want them to chase the games as service type money because that's where greed comes in"

100% agreed.

JL29301414d ago

All these companies only care about numbers. Corporations don't care about you.

neutralgamer19921414d ago

Totally understandable but other PlayStation executives went with different tones actually connecting with gamers

Yes the goal for every company is to make as much money as possible. PlayStation always felt different. There was a lot of behind the scenes politics before Jim took over. He got the job because he led one of the strongest PlayStation divisions (European)

Sayings things like backwards compatibility doesn't matter

Trying to close down older PlayStation stores

It's the little things. Now he wants to acquire publishers and studios which have a history with games as service

King_Noctis1414d ago (Edited 1414d ago )

Why did they ever decided to promote Jim Ryan in the first place baffled me till this day. This guy keep alienating the PS brand with BS lines like “we believe in generations”, with GaaS which no one actually want, and now with this scummy business practice.

neutralgamer19921413d ago

He led for a long time the strongest PlayStation regions in Europe. That's my only guess otherwise there were better options which fans would have liked too

DOMination-1413d ago

SCE Europe were already strong due to the great work that Phil Harrison and Andrew House did before him in that role. Under Ryans leadership, SCE LIverpool, Evolution and Guerilla Cambridge were all closed and SCE London were reduced to making shovelware crap (Singstar etc.)

Gran Turismo 7 Power Pack review

It’s hard to believe but Gran Turismo 7 was released on the PS5 and PS4 around four years ago now. Like most games nowadays its 4K and HDR visuals mean it still looks decent – but it’s been progressively upgraded throughout the years with free DLC content, too. Enter the Power Pack; a new, paid-for DLC that promises to cater towards more hardcore gamers with a chunk of extra content and races. It’s only for PS5 and PS5 Pro, mind.

It’s yours for £24.99 and promises a host of new events, along with a small collection of new cars and a dollop of in-game cash too. But is it worth the money?

Kazunori Yamauchi Wants Gran Turismo to "Natively Support More Steering Wheels"

The sim-racing hardware landscape has undergone a massive transformation in the last few years. What was once a niche market dominated by a few key players has exploded into a multi-million dollar industry, with brands like Fanatec, Logitech, Thrustmaster, Nacon, and Moza fighting for space on sim-racer’s rigs.

As more manufacturers eye the PlayStation ecosystem, the question of how Gran Turismo handles this influx of hardware has become an interesting topic. Speaking at the 2025 World Series Finals in Fukuoka, Japan, Polyphony Digital boss Kazunori Yamauchi addressed the studio’s strategy for hardware compatibility, the “Spec III” update, and why the PC’s “freedom” isn’t always the right path for a console experience.

How 'bout they just come to pc too! Would be a great addition, especially for vr racing.

lodossrage15d ago

Why bother?

Most of the personal computer crowd feel they have better options with iracing and assetto. And they're VERY vocal about that.

Snookies1215d ago

I'd really love for it to come to PC too... More options is NEVER a bad thing. Plus I hate moving my PSVR2 over to my console just to play Gran Turismo. It's like the one VR game that I have to switch to a different system for.

Kazunori Yamauchi on the Future of Gran Turismo Sounds

Although the situation has improved in recent iterations, for much of its history the Gran Turismo series has been heavily criticized for its engine sounds. During the PlayStation 2 and 3 eras, engine notes were often compared to "vacuum cleaners"; the result of synthesized loops that lacked the soul and mechanical violence of their real-world counterparts.
