On Meta Quest you got to "stand over" the playing field as if it were a virtual game board. So it wasn't VR from the perspective of the characters, but VR as "you" overseeing the game and its events!
It's really cool. If you've played Moss, imagine a strategy game with the same perspective.

very good game for those that are on the fence about it, great narrative despite the silly name and lots of replayability with story choices
