How long does it take to beat Elden Ring?

Elden Ring is a tough game, even for Soulsborne veterans, so it can be a rather substantial time investment.

What a relative question, because for me, it's probably going to be 2056 hours(ballpark)... lol

camel_toad1513d ago (Edited 1513d ago )

Same here. The first Dark Souls average time to beat is 42 hours. I know the first time I beat it I was at over 100 hours. And I'm not a trophy hunter at all.

I don't doubt one bit that I'll be playing Elden Ring well over 100 hours. Speaking of that it's time for me to go create my character!

I know I’ll be skewered but there lies my problem with this game. If it has an amazing story, which I’m aware of the writing talent, won’t 100+ hour variable run times to see the endgame ruin some of the cohesiveness of the story telling. I need focus not to forget aspects of a story in games less then 50-60hrs. Outside of cool optional fights throughout the world, this feels like an overly gratuitous method for any kind of meaningful or tight narrative to be invested in. I’m very concerned I’ll get side-quest distracted and never finish this game, which for me I hate when that happens.

DVAcme1513d ago

@FlavorLav01 The Souls games' narrative and lore have always been secondary, though, and more important for setting up the mood and ambiance of the game than for any sort of storytelling purpose. Sekiro is the only Souls game where there is any resemblance of a coherent story and purpose, and that's in big part because the player character is an ACTUAL character and not a player-created cypher. Honestly, as long as the game surprises us with bits of lore and secrets, I don't think there's much to complain about at all.

Elda1513d ago

I'll be taking my sweet time playing due to me playing other games including expansions from (2021/2022) & more being released next month. It'll possibly take me throughout this entire year before I beat Elden Ring depending on how captivated (interesting) it has me when playing.

camel_toad1513d ago (Edited 1513d ago )

It's Elden Ring and nothing else for me while I'm playing it. I'm dropping Dying Light 2 now even though I like it and Elden Ring is also why Horizon has gone straight to my back log (top of the backlog though). But Elden Ring is just going to grab me like only soulsborne games can.

Elda1513d ago

I hear you. I'm invested in Dying Light 2,The Witch Queen expansion,HFW,Cyberpunk 2077,FC6 with expansions including some indie titles that I'm playing & there's more games are being released in March. I just can't dedicate my time to one game. I like playing a variety of different games.

Eidolon1513d ago

I've pretty much dropped my backlog for February releases.. Dying Light 2, Horizon, Elden Ring. Done with DL2, open world fatigue set in after like 30 hrs.. Idk when it will happen with HFW, but I'm definitely getting the platinum.
Souls games have always had intriguing worlds, and the challenge is even more enticing to me, but a year to beat might be a stretch, though I have a feeling it will be one of those games I might have to take a break from. I'm switching between some games that require less thought, like Crysis Trilogy, Chivalry II. Going to finish(maybe platinum) Spider-Man MM .

Couldn't get through FC6, had to return it, OWF set in quickly, felt like a chore and a drag to get through. Will try to get a cheap copy of Cyberpunk.

Stupid question really as it all depends on your gaming skill level

DarXyde1513d ago

Not entirely at all. Do you skip cutscenes? What is your character class? What level are you by the time you reach certain areas? What equipment are you using? How much experience do you have with this type of game? Do you do side quests? Have you gotten lost? Which platform are you playing it on? How much time do you typically have to play?

See my point? Plenty of other factors beyond gaming skill level. Completion time is extremely multivariate.

EvertonFC1513d ago (Edited 1513d ago )

Maybe i worded it wrong, all your points is what I meant. I didn't mean just how good you are with a controller.
Thats why I said it was a stupid question lol, someone who is awesome is different to a new comer to the genre.
My point was why make a article on how long is a game ?
Kinda funny games played Hzd FW in 30 hours missing the whole point of the game yet someone new or reading the review might be put off by game length for there value of purchase is what annoys me with these articles.

DarXyde1513d ago

On that point, I completely agree. Some bold assumptions for anyone to say a game takes x hours to complete. Best they can do is get a group of people to finish it, get a mean of hours taken, and ballpark it.

Indeed, strange question

nitus101513d ago

Basically if you the player no matter what your skill level are enjoying the game, play-time is not important.

Brazz1513d ago

hum... i will likely spend at least 500h.

FanboysKiller1513d ago (Edited 1513d ago )

Someone with tight schedule shouldn't ask these types of questions , it's not even worth the time to sacrifice other important things for playing hundreds of hours.

Eidolon1513d ago

I don't understand what you're getting at, was any of this in question?

why is that dumb? It's the same price everywhere else.

repsahj8d ago

Because it's Nintendo. Post negative first before analizing.

LiViNgLeGaCY8d ago

Because this is the ONLY version you can buy on the S2, correct? I don't think you can buy just the game for $60 like the other platforms. And if I'm wrong about this, then I take it back.

LiViNgLeGaCY8d ago

@repsahj - Dude, shut up. I like Nintendo a lot, actually. I just want the option to get the base game for $60 WITHOUT the DLC. I've done plenty of "analyzing".

Neonridr9d ago

Before anyone complains, this is the same price on PlayStation, Xbox and Steam. It comes with the Game and the DLC.

Elda9d ago

The game is $40 & the expansion is $40 so the price is right.

VersusDMC9d ago

The standard edition physical should have been 40 then with the expansion seperate. Why normalize 80 dollar games? Specially ports of old games.

If people accept this might as well make physical 80 dollar deluxe versions only.

repsahj8d ago

This $80 version is also available on PS5 and XSX.

VersusDMC8d ago

@repsahj

The ps5 has the standard version and the 80$ version so it gives you the choice...on switch 2 physical you can only buy the 80 dollar version.

I guess since they got the data that less than half of elden ring players beat the game and would probably not buy the DLC, they decided to just not make it an option and charge more...

GotGame8188d ago

Like it or not, the vast majority of game sales are digital. Just like movies, and music. At least Gamekey cards are shareable and you can sell them.
