I like this style and I think it fits games with less epic plots like Octopath and Live a Live, but big games like Chrono Trigger and (most) Final Fantasies deserve big remakes FFVII Remake style (sans the horrible plot changes mixing timelines and whatnot)

I wish theyd release them on more then just the switch. I love these old school jrpg type of games. Not this new action rpg stuff that everyone is making. Give me a good ol turn based rpg any day

These games are beautiful and in a decade will still be beautiful and that is what is important, i think like going back to Chrono trigger again, it just still holds up man.

I would so day one Xenogears if it were to happen I would also day one Parasite Eve. I am still surprised they have not added Chrono Trigger to the Chrono Cross remaster coming out. A port of Crisis Core to console would also be a day one for me.

Absolutely love this art style for games. But I also hope it doesn’t become too common.

I also really appreciate this art style, but I can't help but feel these should be cheaper games as well. They are able to use much smaller teams, do less intense art & engine work, and - in the case of this article - are remakes to boot, so they have a template to work from.

$50-60 for these games doesn't feel right to me.

I've seen some folks mention Xenogears, and while I love the idea of them going back and remastering it, remaking it in an HD 2D style would take some effort since only the character sprites were 2D. Everything else was in PS1 blocky 3D that you could fully rotate around. They simply wouldn't take Xenogears and make it look like Octopath. But if someone over at Square Enix wants to do it, I really REALLY hope they do.

Still, I do think if we get a Chrono Trigger remake, they are 100% going to go this route. With Triangle Strategy, Dragon Quest III and Live A Live on the horizon, it seems like an easy no-brainer. Chrono Trigger is way more beloved worldwide than DQIII (yes, they do love their Dragon Quest in Japan, I know) and Live A Live never even made it out of Japan. They have to be at least considering doing this to one of, if not the most, beloved 2D games they've made.

Tell me again how the multiplatform strategy was supposed to fix everything. Look at your results and compare them to Nintendo, which keeps thriving with exclusives. Your loyal fans are gone. And let’s not forget the pile of IPs you purchased only to let them rot.

The worst thing is this is down from last years numbers/expectations which was down from the previous years numbers/expectations. You think about how long “down” has been a consistent part of the communication and you realize those subscriptions are what’s holding that boat together. The price cut of gamespass is still a price raise in a string of price raises. They are trying to use players to offset the missing revenue. Now call of duty is out of gamespass, which is literally WHY they bought the company. To draw people to the subscription. They realized they missed a boatload of money and that wasn’t sustainable. Now you pay for it like you would have if they never bought the company… so why buy the company? Mind you those billions still need to be paid back. Yeah it gives you a chance to say we make the biggest FPS… but the internal conversations must be brutal at high level on topics that really matter. Like revenue. Profitability. And ROI for the shopping spree.
