Have an Series X with UHD Blu Ray issues? For your reading pleasure I laboured arduously in the saltmines of Microsoft tech support for this spicy-take.

Well that sounds like a bad situation. speaking for myself, i have not had any issues playing 4k UHD discs on my one x or series x (yes i joined the series x club recently). The ones i have tried are venom and the snyder cut of justice league (both in 4k). While not being the top of the line 4k player, they played like they should. The bluray app certainly could use some work but it does the job.

SQUIDY-P1558d ago (Edited 1558d ago )

Thanks for reading, It certainly appears to be a hit and miss issue. I've read others had zero problems, while some got it working with the recommended fixes. Unfortunately I've had no luck.

Sayai jin1558d ago

I have 3 Series X's and haven't came across any issues so far. My children and a few friends have a Series X, but they don't use their blu-ray. for movies

InUrFoxHole1558d ago

I have a series S and X I've had no issues at all with either console. I have a friend with a series X and he said when he stands it up it randomly shuts off and feels hot. New console issues. Sucks but we know each company is going to have problems.

phoenixwing1558d ago (Edited 1558d ago )

congrats on the console darth you must be happy. I'm unfortunately unable to get the ps5 as my choice. I already own a gaming pc so I see no reason to get a xbox.

Edit: The real reason I've never gotten a ps5 is because I refuse to pay scalpers. Although I'm starting to maybe lean toward paying one at this rate. It really sucks not having a ps5 imo mainly because I don't want to have to wait extra time to play ff 16 and 7 remake part 2. There's also the exclusive games too of course.

mkis0071558d ago

Just give it a little longer. You will save on the games for your patience.

phoenixwing1558d ago

@mkis007
maybe i'll save on games but it'll be like 2024 at this rate for the chip shortage to die down

Thanks. I got this off a buddy who didnt really have time for it. He does have the 5 though so maybe he just meant no time for X because he plays more 5. Its all good. He sold it to me for less than retail so I was happy and he was as well.

Id had no luck with following wario on twitter or being in the newegg shuffle (its been mostly rtx cards lately). So when he asked me... I said hell yeah. Dont give up. You will get a 5 soon enough.

FinalFantasyFanatic1558d ago

@phoenixwing,
If it makes you feel any better, I think we'll see a longer console generation because of this chip shortage, so at least you have time to save up until there's a good supply of consoles.

Guy at work told me he can’t play Blu rays on his SX unless he’s online . I’m not sure if that’s true for everyone or not but sounds shitty

iplay1up21558d ago (Edited 1558d ago )

I had a X1X and have had a Series X since January 2021. I had 0 issues with 4K BR on either console. 🤔🤔🤔 Still not okay if this is an issue for others.

It is funny though. I did read an article comparing Series X vs PS5 BR performance, after launch. PS5 came out a little ahead of SX, but it said nothing back then about failure to read disks.

agnosticgamer1558d ago

No, because I don't use physical media for movies. I've been 100% streaming or digitally watching movies for at least 3 years now.

agnosticgamer1558d ago

lol.. You don't need to feel sorry for me. Physical media is a dying breed. Especially with movies. I don't watch movies or TV shows over and over so why have like 50 or 60 discs sitting around? When I can stream them or download them? Disc drives probably won't even be an option for next-gen consoles. I feel sorry for the people who still use them.

gold_drake1557d ago

wow ok, i couldnt do that.
to rely on a stable fast internet is not what i would want or cant.
its physical movies only for me.

agnosticgamer1557d ago (Edited 1557d ago )

sorry, your internet service provider sucks. I get 1GB down for $80/per month and that is more than fast enough. In just about 2 years since I lived in the place, I do now my internet has never gone down. I've lived a mix of overseas and stateside (Currently US military). I have never no matter where I lived had problems with a fast enough / stable internet connection to properly stream or download. With the exception of Iraq, but that was ONLY because we couldn't subscribe to local services that were off base. on-base gouged us with crappy cap-based low-speed internet. I understand people who live in rural areas... But is it really that hard to get a stable internet connection and fast enough to stream?

gold_drake1557d ago

well, most of us dont want to or cant pay 80 quid for internet haha. thats a ridiculous price anyways.

and yes, it is. not everyone lives in the u.s.
and connectivity depends on where you live, city or mountain etc.

i think its still an issue everywhere, if you dont live in a big city. or if you dont wanna pay ridiculously amounts of mo ey for a decent connection.

Bigman4k1558d ago (Edited 1558d ago )

I have a Xbox Series X and i haven't any problems when watching a 4k blu ray disc i mean here and there i may have a few hiccups that's about it

Not looking good. Hopefully Asha Sharma is able to turn Phil’s disaster around.

dveio26d ago

To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

Jingsing26d ago

The stock mark is what makes Microsoft remarkable, They have convinced every institutional and retail investor to just keep piling money into them. Like many big tech giants they are just a big growing pyramid scheme. As long as people keep dropping money into ETF's that cover the market Microsoft will always be liquid. At the same time it is completely stifling innovation and competition. People need to start being more discreet in how they invest their money as it's killing the system.

Tanktopmaster9226d ago

Once they re-evaluate exclusive all will be fine….

S2Killinit26d ago

Riiiiight because people will just flock back to them for one or two games per year.

Jingsing26d ago

15+ years of bad performance is what they call irreparable in business. It is time for them to sell off the assets and get out of entertainment.

Tanktopmaster9226d ago

These declines are on the back of extra revenue received from releasing games like Forza horizon 5 on PlayStation. So I’m being sarcastic here when I said they should go back to exclusives. Killing off a revenue stream from Ps5 sales will only make things worse
