IGN: Oblivion Rumors Explained.

When IGN posted their preview of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, they talked about the various improvements that had been made to the PS3 version, such as the optimized load times and enhanced graphical presentation thanks to new pixel shaders that displayed sharper details. They also pointed out that while the Knights of the Nine side quest would be included, other downloadable content would not initially be included in the game. Needless to say, this information spawned a host of rumors on the boards and across the Internet. To separate the fact from the fiction about Oblivion on the PS3, IGN went directly to Pete Hines, the VP of Public Relations and Marketing at Bethesda Softworks for the true details behind the game.

just play the game. Oblivion was a cool game, but it was to darn long. I played the game for about 100 hours. After that I got bored.

This has been confirmed by EGM. The 360 is getting all the graphical overhauls in a patch. It turns out it is not the power of the Cell(tm) at all just a year of extra dev time.

Don't believe me , watch the newest 1up Show , they talk about it and how it was confirmed by Bethesda.

Another interesting thing the PS3 is NOT getting any of the old downloadable content like horse armor or the Mehrunes Razor quest , something about memory limitations and the system not being able to handle it. Really Odd.

You should read the actual article man. He basically confirms what ign said about the CELL specifics.

"the shader functionality that would re-render the low-res textures would inevitably make its way to the 360 build and PC in future updates. However, certain optimizations that take advantage of the system's hardware will remain exclusive to the PS3 version of the game."

I figured the faster load times would not be available in the patch.

Also do you know why the PS3 can't "handle" the horse armor and the other quests ? I am actually not rubbing it into the PS3 face I think it is strange. They said something about memory limitations.

Yeah I'm not sure about what that means - I think its a bit of BS - but hey willing to be proved wrong. I think learning how to use the split memory is more the problem and really its a learning game. Maybe they'll get it - I don't really want this game though - it seems tooo long. Heavenly Sword, Motorstorm, Ninja Gaiden and Assassins Creed are what I'm waiting for :)

I think what he was trying to say is every version is good. Ps3 had to wait longer so got some extras, but 360 gets shivering island first.

In the end we all win, so mabe 360 users and Ps3 users can share game tips!

It seems like they did a good job porting and I will buy this game with out a doubt now. :)

I'm upgrading my ps3 hard drive to a nice and faster 7200 rpm 100 gig.
I wonder if that will cut the load time even more!!!??

DJ7007d ago

You'll probably get a slight boost in speed since the original drives are 5400 rpm (last time I checked). Not enough to be THAT noticeable, but at least some improvement.
