The PS3..super-computer..>.<

Foxgod6365d ago (Edited 6365d ago )

wanna bet my pc here smokes your ps3.

See how your supercomputer stacks up to a i7 quadcore with 6 gb of ddr and a HD 4870 X2
I am running Vista on it, and my pc is almost sleeping so easy it is, its eating only 2 % of my cpu, and only 13 % of my ram :P

JCDenton6365d ago

@Foxgod: Mine too. :) (Quad-core @ 3.3 GHz, 3GB RAM, 8800GTX SLi...)

Foxgod6365d ago

Yeah, that one smokes a ps3 too.

Bolts6365d ago

The PS3 came out in 2006. You're comparing your comp to a high to mid range PC from two years ago. Thats not very sporting. I don't see what the console fanboys are so upset about anyways the console is becoming more PC like everday, and will continue to do so until it becomes a living room PC.

JsonHenry6365d ago

Developers WANT the future to be PCs. Why? Because of ease/cost of development and less royalties. (also less restrictions/requirements on their products by the big three)

Consoles have been becoming more and more like PCs for years. Internet browsing, installs, DL content, online demos, online multiplayer games, voice chat.. the list goes on and on.

There is a reason you console fanboys love your consoles so much - because this is the closest to a PC your console has ever been and you LOVE IT.

You are ALL PC gamers. You just don't know it yet. : )

specialguest6365d ago (Edited 6365d ago )

How bout you compare your $600 built PC from '06 to the PS3? See how far you can stretch that $600 with the computer parts and price we had available back then. HA!

Sarcasm6365d ago

"There is a reason you console fanboys love your consoles so much"

Nah, the reason people love the consoles is price.

Not everyone can spend on a high end PC just to play games and movies.

Foxgod6365d ago (Edited 6365d ago )

@specialguest
Why would i do that, i rather compare to what i have, and blows the ps3 out of the water.

And if it comes to price, then the 360 takes the crown, its the biggest bang for your buck, the difference in gfx with the ps3 is marginally, and it costs half as much.

JsonHenry6365d ago

Price?

Add up the cost of your Console, then the cost of your HDTV, and then the cost of your surround sound.

It all evens out. I built my PC for about 800-900 a little over a year ago and I bought top the line crap back then and it play EVERYTHING I can get my hands on at much higher settings/native resolution than my three consoles.

The biggest reason I bought the consoles were for games that never make it to the PC. If it were not for console exclusives I would have NEVER bought a single console.

y0haN6365d ago

I'm pretty sure the Cell still pushes more floating point operations per second than the i7.

Bolts6365d ago

You simply don't get it. This is probably the last gen where you'll be able to tell difference between a PC and a console. If Sony and Microsoft is smart, they'll make a move on this vision before Apple clown them both.

JsonHenry6365d ago

"I'm pretty sure the Cell still pushes more floating point operations per second than the i7. "

Bwuahahahahahahahahahahahahah ahahaha!!! YEAH FACKING RIGHT!! You know NOTHING about the i7 or the CELL. Your statement just proved that.

Sarcasm6365d ago

"Add up the cost of your Console, then the cost of your HDTV, and then the cost of your surround sound. "

Right, and it still offers a complete immersive theatrical experience.

Theoretically you can do the same with a PC right? Hook it up to the same 46" tv, the same 5.1/7.1 surround sound etc.

It makes no difference as some people even play their consoles in 19" PC monitors if they wanted to.

So for someone looking for the most affordable machine to get into current-gen gaming, all they need is a $199 360 arcade, the games, and a cheap PC monitor.

Jeremy Clarkson6365d ago

I guarantee the Cell would trash an i7 at number crunching, which is very important in games.

slinkey1236365d ago

Lol at the people saying the cell will beat the i7. The cell is a single core with 7 spu's. The i7 has 4 cores and 8 threads. Theres no question which is better. Not to mention the i7 can run at 4ghz easy.

And to the person who said its not fair to compare a 2008 PC to a PS3 which came out in 2006. Well a PC in 2006 could smoke a PS3, a single 8800gtx and a nice core 2 duo can produce better looking games easily. The RSX in the ps3 could never keep up with a 8800GTX. no matter how good the cell is.

Xbox360 is a Supercomputer anyone who disagree's are Gay Boys. so any one who wants to Disagree.

TrevorPhillips6365d ago

xbox 360 isn't a supercomputer i mean think about it the 360 has maxed out for resident evil 5 while the ps3 still has more powerful to use look at god of war 3 close to beowulf graphics u think 360 has the reliability to take that no

Foxgod6365d ago

man dont even mention the ps3, my videocard alone is already 4 x as powerful as the ps3 (HD 4870 X2).
If you have any of the later type of pc's you just laugh at consoles being mentioned in one line with processing power.

SONYSLAVE6365d ago

AGENT-X just proved how badly the droids have been lied to about teh C3LL

and Foxgod you just help showed it with your reply lol. props man

UltimateIdiot9116365d ago

Hahahaha, I went from PC gaming to console gaming because I cannot keep up with these outrages PC upgrades just to play the newest games.
Especially now that I'm in college, I can't upgrade my laptop.
I rarely see JRPG and other Japanese titles on PC, so another reason why I gave up PC gaming.
I still game on my PC every now and then, maybe more when SC2 is out but those days are mostly over.

Heldrasil6365d ago

I am with you on this. I use to play nothing PC games exclusively and would never touch a console, but this generation turned me around. I had to make the choice of buying a new PC or buying a console. I made the right choice for me in buying the console and have not regretted it.

JCDenton6365d ago

I can see it happening in near future. Hardware evolves much faster these days then ~10 years ago, so consoles become obsolete (in terms of hardware power) much faster. I mean, when PS3 came out with it's RSX GPU, GeForce 8800 series already came out, and we all know how much 8800 is more powerful than any console GPU today.

On the other hand, making software (games) for consoles is easier because you can really optimize things.

We'll see. Only time will tell... ;)

Gamingisfornerds6365d ago

Look at the 360 for example, been in the market for 3 years now and the PC hasn't exactly set itself apart in terms of technical accomplishments. Yes, there is Crysis...but very few have played that game on max settings. Take a look at GTA PC vs Xbox360/Ps3. The difference is ever so slightly...it's just not all that great of a difference.

Another thing is design of the consoles. There is only ONE hardware configuration, which alows the developers to digg into the hardware and get much more efficient results. Plus, if I see a game running on a PS3 at my friends house, I know the game will play and perform exactly the same on mine...not so much for PC gaming.

Furthermore, the console doesn't require upgrading and guess what...90% of the people out there buy consoles because they don't have to constantly stay up-to-date on the latest hardware trend so that they can play this game looking as it's advertised. They know what they're getting and what to expect.

And finally and most importantly the games...a lot more interesting games release on the consoles and you know why? Because it's a much more predictable market for the developers and mostly a much more profitable market for obvious reasons...

JsonHenry6365d ago

What do you mean the PC has not set itself apart? You do realize all those games on the 360/PS3 have their settings set to medium at best when compared to the PC port of the same game, right?

I mean, it is hard to tell when you do not see them side by side. But try playing a console game then boot up your PC and then compare side by side. There is a HUGE difference in texture, lighting, and AA/AF.

Gamingisfornerds6365d ago (Edited 6365d ago )

That the graphical difference is such, that you'd have to "A<->B" them to see the difference...

Is that really that significant of a difference to go out and by a PC for it? Not really...

Now, if the difference was in that the graphics are far superiour and that the gameplay mechanics (think of environmental destruction, advanced animations, real-life simulations etc) are also far superiour, I could see the point of buying a PC instead of a console. But as it is now, the PC games just don't have all that big of an advantage.

The main advantage you'll see is more AA, higher res and higher draw distance/less popin. It's all welcome, but to me and many others not enough to justify the constant upgrading and far inferiour games library.

I'd like to note that I have nothing against PC gaming in general, I don't care if you prefer the 360/PS3/Wii or PC for that matter. I just think PC fanboys often overstate the assumed superiority the PC counterparts posses. One exception is Crysis which blows the Sh*t out of everything out there and is often underrated in terms of technical accomplishments. But like I mentionded earlier, you won't find much people playing that game at high settings (with which I mean in comparisson to how many people play games like Gears of War and the likes).

slinkey1236365d ago

You dont need to constantly upgrade. If your smart enough to pick the right parts.

My 8800gts from 2006 still plays all games on high. including crysis at high settings, DX9, 720p. The 8800gtx was also from 2006 and that card is 40% better than my 8800gts. So that card is almost 3years old and it still plays games on highest settings.

Gamingisfornerds6365d ago

You are correct, but...most console gamers just don't want to have to be on the lookout for this kind of stuff. They want to get a machine and not have to worry about anything else and still play games that can hold their own to their PC counterparts.

Futhermore, PC gaming requires configuration of your system, installing the games etc. You also have to take into account what kind of configuration you are going for in terms of incompatibility (sound cards, drivers etc). Furthermore, when a PC game get's an update (for bugs or whatever) you have to get it yourself, on the console you will get a notice and it will all happen pretty much automatically.

Perhaps you could state that the console is for the easy going, perhaps "lazy" gamer, but so be it. It's that whole "plug and play" mentality that appeals to console gamers.

That's why I don't see PC gaming substituting console gaming, EVER.

Not looking good. Hopefully Asha Sharma is able to turn Phil’s disaster around.

dveio19d ago

To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

Jingsing19d ago

The stock mark is what makes Microsoft remarkable, They have convinced every institutional and retail investor to just keep piling money into them. Like many big tech giants they are just a big growing pyramid scheme. As long as people keep dropping money into ETF's that cover the market Microsoft will always be liquid. At the same time it is completely stifling innovation and competition. People need to start being more discreet in how they invest their money as it's killing the system.

Tanktopmaster9219d ago

Once they re-evaluate exclusive all will be fine….

S2Killinit19d ago

Riiiiight because people will just flock back to them for one or two games per year.

Jingsing19d ago

15+ years of bad performance is what they call irreparable in business. It is time for them to sell off the assets and get out of entertainment.

Tanktopmaster9219d ago

These declines are on the back of extra revenue received from releasing games like Forza horizon 5 on PlayStation. So I’m being sarcastic here when I said they should go back to exclusives. Killing off a revenue stream from Ps5 sales will only make things worse
