3 years in development and who knows how much capital was spent and this is what Sony has to offer? There's been so much hype surrounding this app that no matter what Sony put out it wasn't going to live up to the expectation.
There was only 5 bowling lanes and about the same amount of pool tables. The cabinet games were cheese. Now don't go flaming me and saying I'm a 360 fanboy. I've wanted Home to be a success since I first heard about it. I thought the premise would be killer. Well the only thing killer is the killer waste of time Home has turned out to be.

it was pritty much what i was expecting, but i wasnt expecting much. The only thing that was really was was the load times, there are load times for everything!

kay jus came back from 2 hours of home... Basically all i did was dance with these people, SAUSAGE FESSSST! Play some sub par mini games, and thats pretty much it.. home is all about socializing i guess they nailed it, got a new friend, argued with someone bout lil wayne being the best rapper alive "which hes not" and told people some codes for the uncharted rooms..

At the moment I would rather have 8-Days and Getaway then HOME.

Edit: the loading is the biggest problem it just sux, if there would be no loading when going to the square from it to other areas it would be completely different story.

Yes it is early, but if isnt "ready" then it shouldnt be out, especially considering how long they have been at it. But it sounds like a complete waste of time.

I just dont get why you would want to be in a virtual space with a bunch of dudes? Lets be real, Home IS the biggest swordfight ever. The only thing that makes Second Life and stuff like that popular to some extent is the chance at hooking up, real...or virtual (there are some weirdos out there..).

Need to talk to your friends? Thats what friend lists and chats are for. Why would I wanna meet some dude at a virtual bowling alley to be friends on PS3, presumably to play games? That guy might actually suck! Its cool when youre playing Halo or COD 4 and some random cat on your team (or even the other) is a good player AND a cool person, so you send a friend invite. But just walking around meeting people I havent even gamed with?

And as far as your actual friends go, wouldnt you rather be in an actual GAME chilling rather than in Home? Hell, Id rather bootup GTA IV multiplayer and chill wit tha homies in that case.

I am now utterly convinced that Home is crap and Sony wasted their time and money. But to each his own if hanging out with random dudes online is your thing.

I enjoy home alot, and so do another couple of million people that are there all day. Doesnt seem like a waste to me, people socializing in a community based on a game console, having fun. Isnt that its purpose, does everyone think that since money was invested into this, there wont be money to invest in anything else? Creating home is just like doing any other product, difference is, it didnt cost anything to the consumers, but the place is bombed by cleverly placed ads, you think sony is putting those up for free? you guys think that in a couple of years, through DLC and ads Sony wont get something out of it? Do people actually think this is home in its full form?

While listening to the IGN podcast, I wondered why did it take so long. I mean the ut3 modders took less time than them. But it could be more than just the design part. I mean sure anyone can do something like this but to get people excited about it and for other companies to advertise in home sounds like more work. I'll wait for the full version so the game list will be available instead of warhawk.

I think the idea is novel, the problem is good ideas on paper don't always translate to good product, especially when its based on user interaction. It's often hit or miss.

My concern is this. Sony first off announced it too early and waited too long, and its STILL unfinished. I understand its an evolving idea, but I think their focus is all off. They need to be working on the FEATURE SET before ANYTHING else. Revamping the town square assets is just silly. Make sure things like cross game chat, game invites, jumping into games together, etc work first. Make the CORE functional, and the rest can be just what it is, window dressing.

At least it's free and optional. I don't see the hardcore fans running around in Home for hours at a time. Probably just to meet up with friends then game on.

Ok Home is a social networking APP meant to meet other gamers and socialize with them! It still blows my mind how you guys bash Home and are so ungrateful that Sony has given us this service free of charge. What did you guys expect from home.. You know what, since you guys are such experts maybe you should give input on what Home should be.. Home is alright all thoe i thaught there would have been more to do inside of it. I meam it does tend to get boring and honestly there are more guys then girls hanigng around in there and if there are girls there they tend to be a guy with another account. Give Home time and it should evolve and grow over the next couple of years. Till then Sony has to focus on servers and other people trying to login and cannot, honestly I would not mind trying to get into the Japanes or European version of Home. But until Home evolves more, and more users use it I won't be popping in anytime soon.

No matter what Sony does they will always get crapped on. It really bothers me that the Wii can get a free pass on having the most crappiest game library not seen in years of gaming history. Its true, Look how much the PSN has advanced over the last 2 years. PS3 owners complained about no ingame XMB, sony listened and they fixed it. People complained about not having an Acheivment system, not only did sony listen to those concerns they implemented something more deep then Acheviements with Trophies. PS3 owners wanted a good online service, they release Home and they are still crapped on. you guys should be greatful

I personally will reserve my judgement. I will have to wait and see check back in like a year. I personally dont think its a waist just yet, because it has alot of promise, and could end up something really big. So i think its too early to judge. I am a bit opened minded, and see a lot of potential from this.

On the whole, I agree with the negative opinions. Some of them are a bit excessive, but Home really is boring and pointless to me. The only time I really enjoyed logging on was when we got the new arcade games to win things from in the closed beta. I think Sony justifies any production cost by the potential ad revenue they'll earn, should Home catch on. It's just that the time and money put in doesn't justify the final (beta) product. I mean I look at it today and think; this is what they did with that extra year?

I have been a beta tester from day one and Home aint for me, which I have openly stated repeatedly.

But I am intelligent enough to see that is a pretty awesum and encompassing app. that is bringing together a lot of MM content.
First and foremost, its FREE and its NOT mandatory.
The social interaction via text or headset works fine, minigames are timewasters and the free spaces are pretty kewl to check out.

The biggest thing which upsets me is the removal of the pix frames and the ability of not being able to share vids. The pix frames were in the beta and it was one of the top attributes of your personal space. I think they see this as another cash cow and removed it until they can charge for it

remember the PSN back in early 2007? remember the barren wasteland that it was? remember the endless complaints about how dull and boring the PSN was because there was NOTHING on it? no video store. no themes. no wallpapers. the console didn't even have in game media bar access.

NOW look at it. quite robust. lots of content. lots of worthwhile games to play online, PSN and otherwise. weekly updates of SUBSTANCE.

i think i made my point, but i just think Home needs to be put in the proper context. IT'S NOT A GAME. yes, there are games in there, but they are meant to get folks talking.

it seems that the modern day gamer is so used to the only interaction with other gamers (read: STRANGERS), is when they are cursing them out or calling them "noobs" in competitive multi-player, that they are completely incapable of carrying on a regular conversation.

i DO think there needs to be changes in Home. i think the arcade needs fixing and expanding. i think the movie theater needs a steady stream of videos, instead of simply looping the same thing over and over again.

but i also know that these changes WILL come. my PS3 itself isn't the same machine i bought in February 2007, nearly two years ago.

Home will not be the same service it was when it launched, oh, ONE DAY AGO, in the coming months/years.

it's an experiment, and people are already quick to see it fail. god forbid a company, developer, whatever attempts to do something DIFFERENT. i wrote about this on my site, but i find it amazing that people are so quick to call for innovation and "something different," when it comes to the industry, and when they get it, they tear it apart, like Mirror's Edge. no, it's not a perfect game. no, it doesn't deserve 9/10, 10/10 scores, but it also doesn't deserve the hate being spewed it's way for trying something different. maybe they WILL get it right next time. the potential is certainly there. oh yeah, there won't BE a next time, because EA will probably drop the series due to it's abysmal sales numbers.

at least Home can have that opportunity to grow and evolve, and shape itself to what the COMMUNITY wants it to be.

i think that's what a lot of people like the Penny Arcade guys, 1up, ign, etc, are forgetting: Home is vague, amorphous, and lacking identity on DAY ONE, because it will be shaped by US, the GAMERS that use the service, who make our opinions known about the type of service we want.

i think these types of stories from ign, and Penny Arcade can be useful; we SHOULD voice our complaints. but i feel that a lot of them are simply erring towards flat out hating, without taking into account WHAT exactly, Home is supposed to be (read: NOT A GAME).

i think the last person in igns article gets it. he understands what Home IS, not what his expectations and presumptions WANTED it to be out of the gate. he understands that it DOES have potential, and once the community gets going, and more games and companies start supporting the service, it will blossom.

personally, i can't wait for Home to start hosting events like E3 and TGS, or having round table live Q&A sessions with ACTUAL game developers like Guerrilla Games, or Naughty Dog, or Insomniac, or Sucker Punch.

can you imagine gathering in the town square (or some other designated area), sitting down with Ted Price, or David Cage, and being able to ask them questions DIRECTLY about games like Resistance and Heavy Rain, respectively?

Home is boring though, I looked at everything in about 5-10 mins. The problem is that its got nothing to do and at this moment is basically a Second Life in HD without the ability to make your own content by using scripts.

I think a lot of people don't get the point of home.

Meet new people to play games with, that is the main point of Home and it is unquestionably a great way to meet new people to play with online.

The rest of the stuff is cool IF you like to play around with it, if not then thats cool because it isn't for everyone, but a lot of people will enjoy the content that is in there.

A lot of people also seem to ignore the fact that Home is an evolving service that is very much in it's infancy, they even tell you this every time you log into it. Yes Home was hyped a lot and to a degree still is but the message has always been the same, Home will grow in time and just because you might not like it now does not mean you will dislike it forever and certainly doesn't mean it will suck, I know a lot of people that enjoy Home, there are more people I know IRL and that are on my friendlist that like it compared to ones that don't.

I didn't read the article on IGN but I'll assume it has some negativity in there since it was published here by Bloodmask. Besides, I've been in Home for a while and have my own opinions on it.

I think that Home is incredibly awesome. Playing around in Home with a friend was so much fun then playing any other video game out there. I was just with one of my friends and we were just fooling around in Home and i preferred that to any entertainment a video game could offer me. And whats better then walking around meeting new ppl? well unless your the type of person that locks themselves in their moms basement playing video games.

I could've spent that time making real friends and going with them to do real things like playing real pool and real basketball. When I get on the PS3 it is to play games. We simply didn't need home. As a gamer I needed cross-game chat I needed the ability to send voice messages and also to follow friends into games they are playing. What we needed was a online model that has parity with live.

I think folks aren't getting the point with people downing this program. It's not that we want the Ps3 to fail in fact it's far from it. We just want Sony to start making good choices and use some common sense when it comes to how they are handling this investment I have made. Because at 600 dollars it certainly is a investment. Yes Home is something new and different then the rest but ask yourself is it practical? Does it enhance the funtionality of your hardware and your experience when trying to game with friends? That is the issue I think so many have with it.

I own a 360 and a PS3 to play GAMES!!!(Yes I love Blu-Ray, and the Netflix deal on LIVE is fantastic), but I do not social network through my console.

Both new interfaces - LIVE and HOME are merely spectacles that entertain for about 5 minutes.

Is it right that because you own a specific console that you be harassed by not only friends and people on sites like this but by the PROFESSIONAL MEDIA? Something needs to be done.

Who in their right mind would choose to stay at home visiting a virtual vacation spot or go to a concert from your TV. Where's the trophy rooms? And perhaps some more activities would good, simple things such as using the sixaxis for perhaps throwing hoops at targets. Well at least unlike the xbox360 NXE or what ever they call it HOME is voluntary so if u dont want it then delete it.

These guys attacking Home while it's in beta look like fools. Sure it doesn't have a lot right now but it has a lot of possibilities. And it's free so why attack it? Give Sony some time at least. Right now the beta is about making sure it can handle the traffic. It isn't going to replace gaming. It could replace the store though. It gives third parties a way to set up a store. Notice the drastic change in how all the PS3 fanboys describe Home. Ever since home was announced at GDC 07 Sony fanboys have been touting Home as the greatest online application ever. Home was going to be what dethroned MS as the online King.

Now look at how they talk about it. "Not bad for being free" "its only going to appeal to some people", "it's not for everyone", "it is just a social networking application not something tha was going to revolutionize online gaming" and on and on and on.

I don't feel as if Home is free at all. It might have to do with the fact that nothing is for free."no such thing as a free lunch", because it is my $$$ they are spending to finance this travesty of an application. I forgot who said it in the article above, but I too, wish Sony had put money into something different. Or atleast not spend so you could reduce your overhead and make it easier to slash prices.

Can someone please explain to me without the sway of fanboy bias how home is even remotely beneficial to your average gamer in improving functionality or providing entertainment?

I'm pretty sure I won't get any decent answers. I knew from as soon as they were fussing over 'bubble machines' and 'dance moves' that Home was utterly directionless and wasn't going to seamlessly incorporate itself into the PS3 setup. I've said it from the beginning, Sony. If it isn't enjoyable and doesn't allow the player to communicate with their friends easier - then why bother even including it? None of the features in home give any pleasure past a few minutes - it's true! Home should have been a barebones GUI with ultimate functionality which simply 'works'. I hate to say this but Microsoft have once again shown Sony how to do things with the NXE - because it improves the experience for the gamer. "It korzes rrod!!1"... shut up.

As far as I'm concerned, Sony should just take Home off the PS3 altogether (or temporarily?) and try to focus on making the standard OS better (as they have been recently). Home in this state is definitely not ready. Where is the party game launching, the tactics sandboxes? I have serious problems with the price of Live but I would rather pay for that than have this for free. No joke. It's that much better - undeniable.

I actually find it depressing that the console I own is the carrier of such a hideous burden. Do the people behind home have no foresight whatsoever? Do they even understand the gamer's POV? What it seems to me is a bunch of idiotic hippies getting carried away and prioritising glossy nothingness over simple accessibility.

This is going to be even sweeter for the butt-hurt fanboys when it comes from an exclusively PS gamer. Why should I lie to myself? How convincing the negative articles were compared to the positive article speaks volumes, too. Yeah buddy, Home's JUST like your Shinra room. Even if it is optional, you'd be hard-pressed after this launch to find someone giving decent arguments for the case that Home should even exist.

I think Home is fun. I Hope that the people that think its Boring don't even go into it anymore because I want a bowling lane and they were all taken allday. The Minigames were fun too. The only thing a hate are the load times that is really the only problem I have with it soo far. Also I don't mind paying for Virt. Stuff. I want Sony to make that Ship available thats docked outside my Space. That would be cool. I can't wait to see what stuff Sony has up their clever sleeves with this app.Also I want to see how Sony integrates trophies. My question is what are the Uncharted and Farcry spaces?

is because to really appreciate the app is to have real friends already on psn! They obviously dont use the ps3 regularly like some people (incl. me!) My example is, where I work I have 2 co-workers/friends that I regularly game with. we leave work at the same time, but it takes longer to get home for some. before we would call each other on cell phones to see when we were ready to online game.which suks because if one isnt ready we have to keep calling an calling. Now I log into home as soon as i get in and do whatever, then a buddy will log in and instantly look at where im at and join me, then we wait for the other.
as soon as we're together we launch into resistance 2. then go bak to HOME when done and launch ito another game. My point is that to appreciate home you have to be dedicated to the PSN already! For me home, even in its infancy is priceless!

It's fun, and cool to chat with people with the same system and not get into pissing ground wars about consoles.
As for those IGN guys, well they hate it, but they carry on like it's a game. IT'S FREE. And the graphics are awesome. It may not be everyones cup o tea but IMO it's great graphics and a allot of fun for....well FREE.

Sony should just add weapons and guns and charge 15 bucks per month. hey a MMORPG

I think HOME has a lot promise, I'm not surprise at all that the IGN staff is bashing the PS3... they did it all year. I'm just waiting to see with other developers do with HOME.

I wonder what IGN would say if Xbox Live did something similar to the Playstation HOME, it probably be revolutionary.

HOME is really cool!
I mean, I can say alot of what everyone already mentioned, but you just have to experience it.
Especially the dance stage and plaza.
There's so much that can be done,
I just hope SONY doesn't give up on it.

Just like IGN. Of my few friends with PS3 nobody liked Home but in my opinion it is pretty decent and kinda fun...

How do the HOME servers work? What is the maximum number of people that can be in one server?
