Outriders Deserved Better

Outriders didn't make a huge impression, but it deserves your attention if you have any interest in fast-paced shooters or deep RPG systems.

If it's on game pass as a PS5 gamer I'm not going to pay for it. Why should I fork over $60 when other people are playing it for $1/mo? It seemed very generic anyway.

Profchaos1616d ago

I think the demo showed us that it was kind of average. If the game was any good I would still pay for it even if it's free on gamepass but it wasn't

Epicent3r12491616d ago

To be fair, that game has some of the craziest combat in a looter shooter. It's fast paced and the screen is often times filled with monsters/humans coming at you.

The story is actually kind of cool if you're into science fiction.

where it fails is
1. It feels like it was written by a 15 year old
2. Endgame is pointless grinding for no reward
3. The crafting is amazing but the material grind is horrid...to the point you just shut the game off.

I would tell everyone to play through the story, it's enjoyable. But I would NOT spend more than $20-$25 on that game on PS5. Or just have 2 consoles and enjoy it on Gamepass.

Lexreborn21616d ago

I bought it on PS5 because it came with the PS4 copy digitally. My intent was to play it with my son but he had no interest. But I still platinumed it.

It was worth the price of admission to me. But with that said I had it from gamepass too. I played it for a little bit but it didn’t last long so idk mileage will vary per persons choice. But the game is still a lot of fun with friends.

MadLad1616d ago

If you dislike gamepass you should prove it doesn't hold value and not only buy the game, but also on a platform that doesn't offer it.

Magog1616d ago

It's not that I dislike game pass but that they have devalued their product to other customers such as myself.

MadLad1616d ago (Edited 1616d ago )

@magog

Nobody is forced to use gamepass. It's an option. Many people still buy the games that happen to be on Gamepass.
There's a subset of people who use Gamepass just to try random games they normally wouldn't, and use the discount it offers to buy the games they know they want.

You say you don't dislike gamepass, but then turn around and blame it for "devaluing" games, then also use it as an excuse to say you won't buy the game because it's available on gamepass... which actually does devalue the product, being you are openly choosing to not support it at all.

Pick your battles. You can't blame your personal purchase choices, or lack thereof, on the fact a service exists.
Again; if you feel Gamepass devalues content, then fight back with your wallet and actually buy the games that apparently devalue themselves by being put on it. Otherwise you're just fighting the man by playing into his own rules, which is why I feel your stance on things less than thought out.

Magog1616d ago

@TheRealTedCruz
They are telling me their product is worth $1/mo. Why on earth would I then pay them $60 for it? That makes no sense. I'll just let them know on Twitter why they lost a sale.

MadLad1616d ago (Edited 1616d ago )

@hatch

You can be doom and gloom with everything MS does all you want.
That doesn't affect me.

In the meantime I'll continue supporting what is, and has been, the fairest company when it comes to BC, as well as an amazing subscription service that is highly consumer friendly.
And sorry, I don't view a service that would offer me a game that can only be had on said service as the hell on Earth that you're trying to make it out to be.
There's a reason Netflix got really popular, and then many other companies followed suit; and it wasn't because they were garbage offerings nobody wanted. Quite the opposite, actually.

Isn't Sony apparently working on a service quite like Gamepass as we speak? Are they doing that because nobody wants it? Or are they doing it because they know people will, and are willing to pay for it?

You're trying to spin something that people actively want as something anti-consumer, which it's not.
Yet I still hold that there's many out there who still want to buy their games outright, and they can.

I know; it's the big boogeyman known as options.

@magog

Then tell them on Twitter lol.
That's a simple try it price. We both know that. I don't think there's a service on the planet that doesn't do that to pull in new customers.

The service is $10 - 15 a month, unless you want to play the system. Your need to be contrarian to anything MS/Xbox is exhausting, but that's your schtick so.

If it's on game pass then probably it isn't worth your time. All of its games are not up to Sony game standards that's a fact.

IanTH1616d ago (Edited 1616d ago )

That's highly reductive. There are games on there that aren't great, but there are plenty of high-quality ones too. For consoles, I'm primarily a PS guy. For gaming in general, I'm a PC guy. I get GP on PC when they have their $1 buy ins, and I don't feel like the games are trash. Most don't interest me, but I've got a sizable list of games that interested me in some fashion in my "play later" section.

I did play Outriders a while back just after the free expansion, but it was still pretty buggy. It was actually a pretty fun game, held my attention for almost the entire length of the campaign, but my interest died just before the end. It was still like 25+ hours I believe. I'm not saying they all stack up to Sony quality - I'm finally playing Ghosts of Tsushima, and it is excellent - but there are still great, enjoyable games on GP all the same.

MadLad1615d ago

I mean, I literally counted 80 games I know, off the top of my head, reviewed in the 80s or above and I'm just getting into the "F" list of A-Z.
So you have absolutely no idea what you're talking about, and just want to be a detractor.

Secondly, I wish I could say the same for PS Now. I bought a year of that thing, blindly, when I got a PS4 Pro just before the PS5 launched. Was hoping to have a bunch of great games to play. Namely exclusives. To say I was disappointed was an understatement.

Bloodborne and the old Uncharted games. Also Persona 5, though right before the updated edition was launching.
All could be had for $20 and under.
The only big name title that ever came to the service was Last of Us 2, and that's probably because sales dropped off of a cliff months after launch.

PS Now is a service that offers 4x the content of Gamepass, but one quarter of the quality. Only one still gets my money.
I literally bought a month of PS Now again, just to play Last of Us 2; being it was slightly cheaper than just buying the game.

Sony quality?

DJStotty1616d ago

Solution : get gamepass for $1

Magog1616d ago (Edited 1616d ago )

@TheRealTedCruz even if you want to argue Game Pass isn't $1/mo. (it totally is as I could sign up right now for that price) They are at a bare minimum telling me this game is worth no more than $15 as I could beat it in less than a month and that is ignoring the other games that come with that $15. Again why would I pay them $60 for it when they are saying it is worth $15? They have devalued their own product by putting it on Game Pass.

Hedstrom1616d ago (Edited 1616d ago )

I agree with you Magog. I only play on PS5 since most my friends are PlayStation gamers and i dont have the time and energy to play on more systems. But if a game comes on gamepass im not gonna buy it on Ps5. If they give it away that cheep on Xbox im not gonna be a sucker and pay full price for it.

IanTH1616d ago (Edited 1616d ago )

If you want to argue for as cheap as something could get, you can say their game is worth $0.33 as I just got 3 months for $1 of PC games pass during BF. It's not a price I'd say is normal, as I can't get it that cheap going forward. I'd say the $10 range is fair talking point for this, as $15 is for Ultimate which isn't necessary.

I think the issue is that GP is a rental service, much like GameFly. I can trial GF right now for free, so any game I rent during the 1st month would be worthless under the "$1" argument. Every other game, during normal pricing, would be worth $15.95 (for the 1 game plan). If you buy books, are they worthless if you can borrow one from the library for free? It's all about ownership and value.

And quick aside, the game has been on sale. In fact, it saw the deepest discount it ever had ($19.79) the same day it went on Game Pass.

Speaking of, if you find ownership value off kilter for $60, wait for a sale - I do, for literally every game I buy lol. I prefer to own, but I'm not going to ignore GP if the value is right. I tend to only do it when I can get it for $1-5, so not frequently, but it's good to try out games & either beat them for nearly nothing, or know I'm happier to not have bought it at all. To me, renting ≠ buying, so I guess - for me at least - one doesn't have an effect on the value of the other. I won't say it isn't that way for you, just trying to provide the other side of the coin.

MadLad1615d ago

You weave your own narrative and try to hold people to it.
I don't care to play the simple games you try to.

Gamepass is a service.
That service pays for games to be hosted on them, to create value.
That value has been decided between $10 - 15, depending on the version.
In order to entice people to try it, they cut down the wall to entry and offer new players a cheap buy-in to try it.
That's called marketing.

That's not them saying any game on there is only worth a dollar; let alone the entire catalogue.
That's the dumb little narrative you try to spin by compartmentalizing one little piece of a bigger picture, and calling it a point.

You keep playing dumb little word games that are easy to break down. The issue with you is you just then continue to play dumb in response.

Again. Again. Again ..
Be the bigger man. If you think Gamepass devalues the product, outright purchase the product and devalue gamepass as a service. Otherwise, there's no reason to voice your opinion, because something that seems to bother you oh so much doesn't seem to bother you enough to attempt to be any sort of change against it.

You're nothing more than a MS detractor playing lip service. You're not a good troll. You're as translucent as can be. People are getting tired of easily calling you out, and as soon as we simply stop responding, what will you do with yourself?

Godmars2901616d ago

Probably not.

More so personally given I'm not a "fast-paced shooter" fan.

CrimsonWing691616d ago (Edited 1616d ago )

I think the problem is they didn’t listen to the fans. A lot of people said not to nerf the classes and a big pull for me was getting to the point where I could make a god tier character. Once they nerfed it I just didn’t want to play anymore. Had they not nerfed it I’d probably run through it for fun and help people in co-op.

justadelusion1616d ago

Not really, if it deserved more it would've got it. Very generic game, at best.

senorfartcushion1616d ago

That’s what happens when you make the same game as everyone else.

Oh no Outriders ... anyway ...

ARESWARLORD481d ago

I am completely disappointed with my PS plus premium. I thought it was going to be awesome and signed up for 3 years right away.

I don't think I've played more than one or two games on it and I've had it for well over a year huge waste of money

monkey602481d ago

I find both services the same as this. You think this big library of games is a fantastic idea but then you play no more than a handful anyway. That's why I only ever have them for a month or two in a year.

andy85481d ago

I think it's great. 1000+ games and full of quality. Look at January's additions for example. What made it more worth it is the cloud streaming that was added the portal as well

OtterX481d ago

The new option to stream games to my Portal without even having to have my PS5 on has been a gamechanger for me, only available on Premium. To each their own. I know not everyone uses a Portal, but it's really nice for those who do.

andy85481d ago

Yup it's great just hope the beta ends soon so it has full premium access. Some of the games I want to try aren't on the beta list

GamerRN481d ago

Xbox has this for a few years.... I actually like it also, but never really utilize it

Gamingsince1981480d ago

@gamerrn

You could stream xbox on the portal for years now ?

OtterX480d ago

@GamerRN I'm talking specifically about streaming on a Portal, but I guess you're referring to maybe a Steam Deck or other PC handheld? There is no Microsoft handheld though that retains the same controller comfort of a console though. I didn't realize how good a Portal actually feels until I played with one in my hands for the first time.

As long as they continue to offer 'free' monthly games that I can 'keep', then I'm good with just Essentials. I was never intrigued or tempted to go to Extra or Premium.

I never have time to just play the "free" games. Sill havent tried Dead Space yet. Too many games lol

The 7 Best Co-op Games on PS5

There's no better way to enjoy your PS5 than with friends, so here's our picks of the best co-op games on the console.

Cacabunga856d ago

For coop, get a used switch instead

jznrpg856d ago

I own a Switch and have never played co-op on it. I do play Elden Ring , Demons Souls and some other co/op games with my friends on PS5. Baldurs Gate 3 is the next game I’ll play co-op. Can’t do that on a Switch

Cacabunga855d ago

I was thinking for couch casual immediate fun.. not online coop games that require some adaptation.
