Namco Bandai has released the first screenshots of Blue Dragon Plus 2 for the Nintendo DS in the latest Shonen Jump magazine. Scheduled for next year in Japan, this new episode of the series is handled by Toriyama and Sakaguchi. The game will have full 3D battles, the main character's face can be customized.

First there was Blue Dragon on Xbox 360, a traditional Japanese role-playing game. Then came Blue Dragon Plus on the Nintendo DS, which was a real-time strategy game with similarities to Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings. The third Blue Dragon game is playable here on the Tokyo Game Show floor and changes up the gameplay again. This time around it's an action RPG like Diablo with co-op play for up to four players.
The second DS-based sequel to Hironobu Sakaguchi's Blue Dragon has been pushed back a week in Japan from October 1st to October 8th in order to make last-minute changes and improvements to the game.
Blue Dragon: Ikai no Kyojuu, roughly translated to Blue Dragon: Behemoth of the Underworld in English allows players to create their own avatars for online play whilst also having a fully-fledged storyline starring Blue Dragon regulars.
