Most of the game is locked by a pay wall. Hard pass.

Orbilator1630d ago

I agree not the most consumer friendly PS+ addition in a long time. Just cancel it.

BrettAwesome1630d ago

So. A demo instead of a game. Omg, that's lame. I wanted to play it. Now I don't.

dhammalama1630d ago

Agreed. I was curious but was waiting for it to get cheap or come out on ps+. With this new paid demo version of the game it makes the decision easy, I'll just not play it at all.

brewin1629d ago

I'm wondering why they chose the title to do this with?! It's not like it's had a ton of great reviews or critical acclaim. Almost every PS5 owner I know was either waiting for the bargain bin or PS Plus. They could have given this game a whole new audience, but I feel they're just going to piss alot of Plus members off.

At this point, I'd rather just have them give out remastered PS4 1st party stuff as the PS Plus freebie for PS5 each month. I can't recall a be single good PS5 freebie on PS Plus. Everything has been so so.

Is Godfall Challenger Edition Worth Trying?

The past couple of days players and to a lesser extent our staff have criticized Godfall Challenger Edition.

On EGS it's free, but not on PS4/5

nitus101619d ago

While I did bookmark the game I actually downloaded and played "Mortal Shell". Somehow I am not overly keen on starting a game with full attributes (at least according to the reviews I have seen).

Actually, I think "Mortal Shell" is a much better game although when you first start you are not sure what you are doing. I do suggest that you look at some game-play (sans spoilers) and get an understanding of the basics before playing.

The game, "Mortal Shell" is "Souls like" although it does have features that set it apart such as the ability to harden yourself (think of it as a shield) and instead of souls you use "tar". Of course you can get four different shells (think armour) and weapons are up-gradable.

Of course if you don't like "Souls games" then "Mortal Shell" is not for you.

As for "LEGO® DC Super-Villains", well it is not my style of game but I am quite sure many players are going to like it and that is good.

LordoftheCritics1621d ago (Edited 1621d ago )

I got bored already.

Theres a tower mode and some other missions mode thats very linear, run to boss kind of situation.

The earnable armor skins for the valorplates are just different colours/texture adjustments.

Its like a stripped down mobile game.

Lexreborn21620d ago

The armors are different designs as well as build types. They also have things they specialize in with different special attacks.

You can customize the valor plates with augments that give extra stats and abilities to help you achieve desired effects. Because even if you can have the same equipment it doesn’t have the same output.

As for the content… it’s endgame post content… of course it’s linear. The boss rush is a boss rush like any game. The tower is a survival mode… like any games survival mode.

LordoftheCritics1620d ago (Edited 1620d ago )

Yea the valorplates have different buffs.

Not a huge difference. Its like stat and some debuff with many overlapping Archon Fury between them. Poison debuff with longsword aoe proc build etc etc but thats all it is.

They all play very similar, if each felt like a whole new class that would make sense for this bare minimum feeling game.

The Armor skins are recoloured with some sparkles.

Lexreborn21620d ago

That’s where the skills make the difference as well. If you combine the skills with equipment abilities plus augments you can achieve pretty great combinations. And have different styles per plate.

Obviously each plate caters to different stats(fire, water, earth, critica l etc) so the depth is based on your own imagination. Unless you go for building online “perfect builds”

Profchaos1620d ago (Edited 1620d ago )

Yeah same I was five minutes in had met two enemies and got bored. It felt like a mobile game and was just funneling me down a hallway with barely an explanation of why I should care.

MrNinosan1620d ago

As it's "free", why not?
The game is actually good today (compared with a year ago).

Palitera1620d ago

Why? Because you'd waste time in a shitty scam of a bad game's demo. Why even waste 5 minutes on it?

NeoGamer2321620d ago

I think if you are interested it is worth the exercise. But, if you weren't interested to begin with, it probably won't do anything for you.

I was interested in Marvel Avengers and Godfall last year but bought neither. I played Marvel Avengers on XB gamepass and deleted it fairly quickly because it is garbage. I might try Godfall because although I suck at these kind of hack n slash games I enjoy them. If I keep playing it is another story though.

But, I do not like that this is not the full as it was original game. So, purchasing the full original as it was game after I play this version is probably a hard pass.

DankSinatra1620d ago

Somebody sounds petty that they’re entitled

darksky1620d ago

But you wasted time to post here. Why?

blackblades1620d ago

People had problems with the game to begin with so they skipped to the end and let people play the endgame content insteadve bore there way through the whole game but of course people like to B! about everything

MrNinosan1619d ago

It's not a demo. It's the good part of the game. Just like in WoW, you skip the boring farm up until end-content and that's where the fun begins.
Same with most MMO's. If we don't count FFXIV which is actually fun all the way O can't think of many other mmo's where I'd actually had more fun levelling than doing the end-content stuff.

Well that's me and my opinion.

I won't waste more time on God Fall, I already did, and have to huge backlog to spend time on any non storydriven game.

Hell I even tried Crackdown 3 and Medium because they were "free". You might judge games by the cover but others are hopefully smarter than you.

EvertonFC1620d ago (Edited 1620d ago )

It's free so of course its worth trying, that's like saying is it worth trying a demo ffs.
Are people dumb these days ?

EmperorDalek1620d ago

Money isn't the only cost, the question here is whether it's worth putting any real time into. With things like PS+ and Game Pass, being free doesn't make it worth playing as there's plenty of options.

Axel-Foley1620d ago

Game Pass and PS+ are free? Last I checked, that wasn't the case.

dbcoops1620d ago

Putting the time into it should be his choice and shouldn't bother other people if he wants to as it doesn't effect them.

EmperorDalek1619d ago (Edited 1619d ago )

@Axel - Thanks for stating the obvious. The games aren't technically free. But you don't pay for them directly, you don't own them, and you have no say over which ones go to the service. But that's not the point, I'm arguing against the "BUT ITS FREE, TRY IT OR ELSE UR DUMB!" stance.

There's so many games on these services that the vast majority of people won't have time to give all of them a proper go... And half of a mediocre game like Godfall isn't even worth the time of day in my opinion.

@dbcoops - I'm not sure if that was directed at me or not. But I wasn't criticising him for giving the game a go, I'm arguing against his opinion that everyone should try it just because it's "free". It shouldn't bother him if people choose not to give it a go.

Mr Logic1620d ago

No, but most people have it for online play so the games are kind of a "bonus".

dbcoops1620d ago

The service is not free but the monthly games offered through Plus are.

frostypants1620d ago

There are countless free games and demos out there. Not enough time to play them all. Some people have lives outside of gaming all day.

Godfall: Challenger Edition On PlayStation Plus Isn't A Great Look

Godfall: Challenger Edition will release on PlayStation Plus as basically a vertical slice of Godfall. Let's not start doing that.

I agree with an awful lot of this. Could have taken the words straight out of my mouth.

I do actually like getting the multiplayer games on Plus though. It usually means a large player base to take advantage of for a while.

I didnt know Godfall Challenger Edition was free on Epic though so that's even worse

jeromeface1628d ago (Edited 1628d ago )

its just listed on epic, its not available yet... so its hard to say if its free or purchased. Being an epic temporary free offering doesn't mean its free just like sony offering something for a month for free doesn't mean its free. Because its not like a demo that's always free.

Shiken1629d ago

Meanwhile, on gamepass...

EmperorDalek1629d ago

Indeed, this is a dangerous precedent. Just give us a different game if Gearbox/2K didn't want to actually give us Godfall.

Lexreborn21629d ago

It’s also going to be free on epic game store for like two weeks to download. But it shows it’s a model Gearbox wanted to try to get people into their game at a lower cost.

The amount of disingenuous information going on with this games release is insane.

Deathdeliverer1629d ago

Yeah. I seriously doubt Sony will allow this in the future. Getting the game with the sub and having to pay for optional dlc is one thing. Getting a add on free and having to buy the game separately is another.
Something tells me not even Sony realized what the “Challenger Edition” was. I would have assumed it was the full game with added content. Like a expansion. Anyway, not the end of the world.
