Where Does the Metroid Series Go from Here?

Alex DS. from Link Cable Gaming writes: "Much has been said about how the game has brought Metroid ‘back’, how does it set up its future? What comes next for Samus and where does the Metroid series go from here? That’s what we’ll be discussing today."

Prime 4 next, then who knows. I would love to see Nintendo purchase Mercury Steam and have them in house to continue developing 2D Metroids in the future.

It was great that Metroid Dread finally introduced a Chozo villain. A great way to finish the arc started from the first game, especially the Zero Mission remake.

In terms of where to go - well anywhere. Samus became a metroid in Fusion, and now is genuinely a metroid in Dread. I was pleasantly surprised that there were no actual Metroid enemies in Dread and this is where we can start from. Samus is now the "last" metroid and every one seeking power in the galaxy should be after her. Another chozo villain? Or maybe the next game can feature creatures that the Chozo used as prototypes to create the metroids?

Or maybe a human villain this time who manages to steal Samus' armour? Basically, the possibilities are plentiful.

The 10 Biggest Nintendo Direct Moments of the Switch Generation

VGChartz's Mark Nielsen: "Last week Nintendo held this year's surprisingly packed not-E3 Direct; with a full schedule for this year and a vague promise of a console successor next year, it's very possible that we've now seen our final Nintendo Switch Direct, or at least one with major first party reveals. That makes this a good time to sit back and reflect on a generation of Direct moments, from the shocking and surprising, to the joyous and exhilarating - and, quite often, all at once."

It’s good to see Metroid do well. Hopefully we hear something soon about Metroid Prime 4

Wait up, 3 million worldwide out of a possible 120 million is considered good for a legendary franchise like metroid?

JEECE1036d ago

Metroid has never sold super well. Lots of people under under the mistaken impression that, because franchises like Mario Kart, Smash Bros., 3D Mario games, more recent Zelda games, and Animal Crossing sell huge numbers, that all Nintendo franchises sell at that level, and that they always have.

This is pretty good for a Metroid. Dread will probably end up being the best-selling game in the franchise, if it isn't already.

Sciurus_vulgaris1035d ago (Edited 1035d ago )

Metroid Prime was said to have sold 2.8 million copies, so Dread is likely the best selling game in the series.

It took some doing but I'm glad it finally made it past that milestone.
