Nintendo's Next-Generation System, What Might it Be?

Alex DS. from Link Cable Gaming writes: "Nintendo has publicly begun saying they are at least thinking about what the Switch’s successor will be, with a new ‘integrated game system’ launching in “20XX”, whenever that is. This has gotten our imaginations racing – Nintendo’s next-generation system, what might it be?"

Awful but Hilarious name. They would never lol.

As far as the article goes, A Switch successor would be ideal for Nintendo's business with a reduced Tegra Orin processor.

Another option core fans would be okay with, would be a home console similar to the Xbox Series S performance wise.

However, this is Nintendo and we could end up with something completely random like a revitalized VR/AR headset like HoloLens or Oculus since the tech is much cheaper to make now (leaning more towards AR since they like to be different). I can imagine all the Pokemon Go players around the world wearing this to catch Pokemon, but it would be pretty revolutionary for gaming and help get people back out into the world.

It'll be another hybrid. Nintendo sees how successful they can be if they consolidate all their devs and fans on one platform. I think we'll see two versions though. One with a dock and controller grip like the Switch. The other will be just the handheld itself without the dock or accessories. Try to appeal to everyone right out of the gate.

Should have one with a lot more power in the dock itself, instant boost to modern standards when docked.

Neonridr1648d ago

the original patents for the Switch showed a supplemental computing device which would do just that. Never came to fruition for the first iteration but perhaps for the next one.

That's very difficult to do. It would need to have direct access to the motherboard somehow. External GPU's are a lot of money for not nearly as much power gain.

Or up the wattage while docked while still keeping the system cool. Orin is a pretty powerful chip (I’m assuming Nintendo will use it since it comes out early next year), but it needs juice to push out those graphics.

If Nintendo is doing portable again, then it should come with at least One S ~ PS4 comparable specs.
Nvidia already announced Jetson AGX Orin today.
Or else if they're transitioning to console box, then atleast give it Series S comparable specs.

Neonridr1648d ago

think Steam Deck at the very least I would imagine.

porkChop1647d ago

It needs more power, DLSS, HDR for docked and portable, built-in support for voice chat/messaging. There's plenty of room for improvement.

i suspect its going to be pretty weak overall, and rely entirely on DLSS to do the heavy lifting

it will cost $449 with no game

Look I know VIII has its issues and all that but how on earth can the do big anniversary events with new artwork and merchandise for VII, IX and X yet VIII got sweet f*** all.

They could have given it something during its 25th anniversary yet all it got was a single Happy Anniversary post on their social media.

solideagle16d ago

they should know that we are OG fans of VIII as it sold truckload as well. not as much as VII or X. I personally didn't like IX but X and VI are my personal fav.

Shadow Hearts 2 covenant is another game I love. I hope one day someone can make remake, I would be delighted
