From Eurogamer: "After an otherwise quiet N7 Day celebration for Mass Effect fans, BioWare revealed one brilliant tease for the next entry in its space opera saga.

As someone who chose Halo 2 over the PS2’s massive library, I cannot wait for M$ to get all of their franchises running on full steam.

My ps5 is a blast, but I hope it gets some strong competition out of the Zenimax deal. Somebody needs to keep Sony sharp.

Hikoran1667d ago

I agree, competition is always good as it keeps them bettering themselves rather than get stagnant.

So what’s Xbox excuse? they have been stale for a decade with plenty of competition . They owned plenty of studios before the purchase they just didn’t make good games from most of them . Also this isn’t a MS game

MIDGETonSTILTS171667d ago

@jznrpg

Xbox has no excuse, aside from they had less studios than Sony or Nintendo before their Zenimax buy.

But they were able to make Gears and Halo 1-3 with their studios, so they simply have ZERO excuse for the Xbone being the most boring console to own of the last decade.

But that doesn’t mean their success isn’t needed. If Sony didn’t blow people away with the ps4, then the XsX/S could have just rested on Game Pass. But the PS4 had great exclusives, so M$ was motivated to make a monumental purchase with Zenimax in order to catch up.

Don’t be fooled: Sony could become stagnant just like Xbox had. Competition creates standards, and currently Sony is setting the tempo for Xbox. And, both are motivated to take/keep that market position.

That motivation is good for all gamers.

Not holding my breath on this one after the Andromeda outing. Not as bad as people made it out to be but certainly a disappointment after a 5 year wait. Fingers crossed they bring the series back to the glory days.

Outlawzz1667d ago

They changed the original mass effect and turned it into a shooter. Mass effect 2 wasnt too bad but it was were I drew the line. They lost me as an actual fan after that.

Still haven't played through 3 and Andromeda. I will soon though just to see the story

Mass Effect 5's Combat Should Take a Page Out of Doom's Playbook

As BioWare hones in on combat for the next Mass Effect game, learning from Id Software's modern Doom games could be a smart move.

No. It’s an rpg.
Make it more rpg not less

cloganart420d ago (Edited 420d ago )

Don't know why you are getting downvoted. You are absolutely right.

Mass Effect combat should always have a layered approach that benefits from teamwork, with a good combination of Tech, Soldiers and Biotics and navigating + utilizing the environment.

Andromeda did fast action-combat already and it was borderline rejected by the majority of the playerbase.

Rebel_Scum420d ago

Andromedas combat was probably the only thing universally praised. I liked it. tbh I dont think they should change much of the way Andromeda played for 5.

The story, characters and missions/side missions were the worst part of it. And those f’n vaults ugh…

toxic-inferno419d ago

@Rebel_Scum

Hopefully they'll find some middle ground between the two. The extra verticality was great. But personally, I prefer being able to pause the battle when opening the combat wheels/menus, rather than just slowing down events. Allowed for much more careful and tactical gameplay.

The one thing I hope they fully bring back is a proper class system. Andromeda's system where you could mix and match across all the classes is a perfect example of a system that gives you more freedom, but ultimately reduces the uniqueness of each playthrough.

This article is complete trash. It's an rpg not an action game. Not everything has to be super fast paced. Sometimes methodical works better.

I think that if this doesn't get shelved, it will never be the game people dream of having. The high of ME2 hasn't been reached since, and it's on that mythical high bar that is likely impossible to surpass; let alone be reached by present day BioWare.

It might even have monetization practices, since that was the "believed" reasoning for DA: Veilguard's failure

jznrpg420d ago

I preferred 1 over 2 gameplay wise, plus it was darker in tone. I hope they go back to that instead of more shooter that 2/3 was

Bioware's Economy Game Designer (Harel Eilam) is now assisting in the development of the Battlefield franchise as Narrative Designer - as part of Electronic Arts' Rotational Experience Program.

EA needs to rehire the game director of Dragon Age: Inquisition. He did an outstanding job and I hope he can bring those same story beats to Mass Effect.

I don’t know if quality is at the forefront of their mind

Rebel_Scum496d ago (Edited 496d ago )

Just dont stuff it up. Keep the Andromeda gameplay along with planet exploration with the Mako. A great villain, great story, characters and a new mysterious threat to fight against and we’ll be good.
