Looks just like a Dark Souls game.

Christopher1650d ago

With a ton more evolution of the world and gameplay options. This looks really good. This is Skyrim + Dark Souls and that's a great combination.

UltraNova1650d ago

With a hint of Zelda if I may add.

Love it.

rpvenom1650d ago

For someone who wasn't a huge fan of the dark souls series cause I didn't have the patience to git gud.. this looks more appealing.. I'm sure it's still tough but the stealth, traversal, map, magic, spirits.. all look much more accessible for someone like me.. so I'm sold. It looks incredible.

Christopher1650d ago (Edited 1650d ago )

If I can do way more stealth in general, this game's appeal just went up 10x. I really like the feel to it, though, made me feel like I was watching someone play a D&D game. Also, dragon heads as a limb? C'mon, who doesn't want that?

-Foxtrot1650d ago

Feels more like Dark Souls and Ghost of Tsushima had a baby

oldenjon1650d ago

Are you trying to say that's a bad thing???

WillyC0091650d ago

I’m hoping this in a positive context. Otherwise, stick with games like Halo & Gears. More your speed.

SPEAKxTHExTRUTH1650d ago

Two games that have absolutely nothing in common with Elden Ring so I'm not sure where your comment came from other than the usual fanboy BS this site is know for smh...

WillyC0091648d ago

Wow talk about going right over your head. That’s my point precisely. Nice to see you’re a sharp one hahaha.

CrimsonWing691650d ago

I think the big change is having a breath of the wild like open world. I mean I want the Dark Souls formula from them but it’s cool to change it around like Sekiro. I’m sure this will have enough new additions to make it feel distinct ala Sekiro and Bloodborne.

I Just watched 2022 goty Winner, this game Will set a New standard.

TheKingKratos1650d ago

Yeah in a year where we have Ragnarok and Horizon forbidden west ...it is going to be very tough year to determine which will win GOTY between the 3 games

Too early to judge now

OptimusDK1650d ago

To me sounds a bit to narrowminded and purely based on favorite plastic

Thunder_G0d_Bane1650d ago

Definitely a fanboy comment. You seem to only see Sony games.

You do realise 2022 is also the release of Zelda Breath of the Wild 2 so all the games you listed will be battling for goty against it.

TheKingKratos1649d ago

I didn't say who will win .. i said it is too early to judge now which is true and all of the games i said might be GOTY contenders .. and i forgot about Zelda since i don't follow anything about Nintendo

You guys think other games might win that is up to you ,i have no problem with that.

"Definitely a fanboy comment. You seem to only see Sony games.
You do realise 2022 is also the release of Zelda Breath of the Wild 2 so all the games you listed will be battling for goty against it."

Not really sure why i am a fanboy when you are the one who got very defensive because i didn't mention Zelda

Spenok1648d ago

Elden Ring
God of War: Ragnarok
Horizon: Forbidden West
Dying Light 2
Starfield (have yet to see much, but it's Bethesda, so here's hoping)
Forspoken
Tiny Tina's Wonderlands
Zelda: BotW2 (I have serious reservations about this one, but am "hopeful")
A Plague Tale: Requiem (the first was AMAZING!)
Hogwarts Legacy (have yet to really see anything, but here's hoping)
Gotham Knights (Still wary, but who knows)
Stalker 2
Gran Turismo 7
Pokemon Legends: Arceus (Nintendo is FINALLY taking a chance on the series formula)
Ghostwire: Tokyo
Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League (So far Rocksteady has my support)
Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora (Still a wait and see, but I'm intrigued)
Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origins (Poor story, but pretty great combat. beta was fun)
Splatoon 3
Pragmata (We'll see, but I'm intrigued)
Rainbow Six: Extraction
King of Fighters XV
Destiny 2: The Witch Queen
Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown
Ark 2
Bayonetta 3
Saints Row
Dead Space (Remake)
Kirby and the Forgotten Land
Salt and Sacrifice
Star Ocean: The Divine Force (Good GOD please don't let it be anything like the last one)
Stray
Sifu
Triangle Strategy
Grand Theft Auto Trilogy
Lost Ark
Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope
Prince of Persia: Sands of Time Remake (assuming they can turn around what they've shown)
Redfall
Dolmen
Instinction
Skull and Bones (doubtful it releases, but I'd like to see something on it at least)
TMNT: Shredder's Revenge
The Calisto Protocol
The Lord of the Rings: Gollum
Warhammer 40,000: Darktide

Needless to say, most of these won't be GOTY material. But nevertheless, there are a LOT of games to look forward to next year. Take your pick, there is something for everyone. But I have a feeling it will be between the 3 you mentioned, and perhaps even Forspoken.

Magog1650d ago

Looks like tense fun but their engine is really showing it's age. They should add more atmospheric effects to counter all those sharp edges and low res textures.

Levii_921650d ago

I don’t agree at all, it looked disappointing visually the first time it was showed (to me) but this is a big improvement. It looks stunning now. That big tree reminds of Valinor from Tolkein’s Silmarilion.

jznrpg1650d ago

Graphics are nice to have but I’ll take the story /gameplay over high end graphics . These games don’t sell like most of the games as well known . Everyone knows of Dark Souls but not everyone buys it and enjoys them so I’m fine with the budget going elsewhere instead of the engine and graphics .

nix1650d ago

It did look little last gen considering Demon's Souls remake. Maybe From Software should take little help from Bluepoint.

CrimsonWing691650d ago (Edited 1650d ago )

I dunno, like it looks pretty much like Dark Souls 3. Sure there’s different environments but there’s the same animations and even assets. I mean the treasure chest I was immediately looking at the chain to see if it was a mimic. Not a ding on the game since I adore the series, but for me, it didn’t look next level.

Edit: People do realize this is a last-gen game, right?

oldenjon1650d ago

It is last gen. TBH I don't think it looks worse than Halo Infinite, or some other cross gen titles.

LordoftheCritics1650d ago (Edited 1650d ago )

@oldenjon

''This visual intelligence idea is nonsense''

Just watch every dev surpass those who dont consider their audiences visual intelligence.

In fact, if you want a sample. Read the comments section of every single game reveal trailer.
Let's not even get into why a certain shooter got delayed for an entire year. Ask craig to comment on that.

oldenjon1650d ago (Edited 1650d ago )

Yeah, that's not a thing. Just look at the highest grossing games of the last decade if you need proof. You can argue that it works in some cases, but would also have to admit that it's completely unnecessary in others.

Christopher1650d ago (Edited 1650d ago )

The whole concept of these games is to use lower-end game tech to offset costs since they don't sell as much as other AAA games. If you increased those costs, you wouldn't get the game you see here, but a much lesser version of it.

IMHO, gameplay and gameplay diversity > latest graphics.

Magog1650d ago

That is faulty logic given how good the Demon's Souls Remake looks. The truth is that FromSoft just doesn't prioritize graphics which if they did could increase their sales.

Christopher1650d ago (Edited 1650d ago )

@Magog: It's literally not faulty logic. It's industry knowledge.

https://www.youtube.com/wat...

And Demon's Souls remake was done by Sony with a huge expense behind it based on existing games, not a new in the series by the same team and expanding greatly on the open world and gameplay concepts. Demon's Souls also costs $70 as a remake. Not a new game developed from the ground up, but a remake utilizing old gameplay and design concepts with new graphics and effects.

LordoftheCritics1650d ago (Edited 1650d ago )

Very backward idea.

You can further every aspect of the game in full synergy and we have seen that with many titles. In fact the visuals and sound weigh in heavily on the role playing/immersion aspect of any game or we would be playing stick figure Dark Souls on a white background.

It could be they are comfortable with the current engine etc. There could be a number of reasons.

But what they can't ignore is the audience intelligence and our constantly improving visual perception. Netflix and the large amount of games today has hugely made everyone more visually intelligent. Developers have to consider this moving forward.

My first impression and immediate reaction was oh wow it looks outdated and suddenly I am a little less interested. It could be an excellent game overall but its lost me quite a bit. What that means is that I value beauty as well. Its part of games that I love. I think moving forward, all devs will need to consider it. Most devs do, but many overlook it.

Christopher1650d ago (Edited 1650d ago )

***You can further every aspect of the game in full synergy and we have seen that with many titles.***

1. Those have greatly associated costs that have led to MTX and Season Passes. Do people not realize why these costs exist? It's not just to be greedy, it's to maintain profit margins without raising the cost of games overall.
2. Those are also associated with titles that are long-standing and sell >10m in the first year.
3. The example given was a remake, not even a new game, which had a higher cost than the original and had millions and millions of more dollars put into it just for graphics. That proves exactly the point that adding graphics greatly increases costs, extends development, and, depending on actual budgeting factors, can lead to cutting out things when that is the focus.
4. Not every development company is able to put out $50 million or greater games, let alone $10 million.
5. I literally posted an industry professional explaining it for you, and you call it a backward idea when it's a cornerstone of a huge portion of the industry.
6. Don't mistake your preference for better-looking games with how the industry works.

oldenjon1650d ago (Edited 1650d ago )

Totally agree, especially with all the polished turds out there. AAA visuals are a huge drain on time and resources. FROM has found a very good balance of art style / visuals that allows them to create quality experiences and exercise their creativity with more frequent releases. This visual intelligence idea is nonsense, and just demonstrates that the industry is becoming Hollywood. I'm sure there will be a bump in visuals with next gen FROM, but don't expect them to ever be at the top of that game and I'm more than OK with that.

@oldenjohn

Yeah, that's not a thing. Just look at the highest grossing games of the last decade if you need proof.

/facepalm

I guess we should have stuck with the visuals of God of War 1 and 2. There's no need for believable facial animations.

Its simple. Games that use visuals for atmosphere/gameplay/narrative etc benefit from attention to visuals.

Every single game in the top grossing list that utilized visuals as part of their game experience had pushed the visual in some form or the other. From Zelda to RDR and Witcher.

oldenjon1650d ago

It basically proves that art direction / visual style are adequate substitutes for fidelity, and that sometimes visuals aren't important at all. You can argue this point all you want, but it won't change the fact that Minecraft is at the top of that list.

Christopher1650d ago

***From Zelda to RDR and Witcher.***

LOL @ including Zelda. Zelda literally is the same as the Souls games. It forgoes higher textures, newer graphical technology, etc. to focus on the world and the environment.

Nintendo literally does the exact same thing as the Souls games with their games.

Neonridr34d ago

why is that dumb? It's the same price everywhere else.

repsahj33d ago

Because it's Nintendo. Post negative first before analizing.

LiViNgLeGaCY33d ago

Because this is the ONLY version you can buy on the S2, correct? I don't think you can buy just the game for $60 like the other platforms. And if I'm wrong about this, then I take it back.

LiViNgLeGaCY33d ago

@repsahj - Dude, shut up. I like Nintendo a lot, actually. I just want the option to get the base game for $60 WITHOUT the DLC. I've done plenty of "analyzing".

Neonridr34d ago

Before anyone complains, this is the same price on PlayStation, Xbox and Steam. It comes with the Game and the DLC.

Elda33d ago

The game is $40 & the expansion is $40 so the price is right.

VersusDMC33d ago

The standard edition physical should have been 40 then with the expansion seperate. Why normalize 80 dollar games? Specially ports of old games.

If people accept this might as well make physical 80 dollar deluxe versions only.

repsahj33d ago

This $80 version is also available on PS5 and XSX.

VersusDMC32d ago

@repsahj

The ps5 has the standard version and the 80$ version so it gives you the choice...on switch 2 physical you can only buy the 80 dollar version.

I guess since they got the data that less than half of elden ring players beat the game and would probably not buy the DLC, they decided to just not make it an option and charge more...

GotGame81833d ago

Like it or not, the vast majority of game sales are digital. Just like movies, and music. At least Gamekey cards are shareable and you can sell them.
