People try to chill when playing video games. Not flail their limbs around and burn 1,000 calories. Motion gestures would be cool as an option to be utilized by some games but full blown games that rely on it will most likely fail. Like if Ghost Recon games could detect the "bent elbow and fist" gesture for hold your position and the "bent elbow with an open palm" gesture for move up. Just little things that are lightly sprinkled through the gameplay. That could be cool.

Or in baseball games when playing as the catcher, the player could hold up two or three fingers for slow ball, fast ball etc. Just not for actually catching nor throwing the ball and burning 1,000 calories!

Baffles me why anyone would want a camera that's constantly on and connected to the internet by a company like Comcast in collaboration with MS which is known to not care much about your privacy. Phones are kinda unavoidable, but everything else is.

Anyway, watch as this device does the same thing to TV consumers: watches to see how many television watchers are in a room, and what advertising they will be looking at and interact with. I betcha it's to profit on advertising just like before.

I’m sorry, but reading these comments and the ones on the actual article I’m very confused. At the time the Kinect was reviled by many, it barely worked for anything but super basic gesture recognition, and even then it was barely. There where aspects of it that were interesting, but it was neither responsive enough or precise enough to be used in anything more than dancing games and basic sports games.

It is however perfect for this type of application. Really, this doesn’t just sound like sky are just using the Kinect, it sound like the entire Xbox one. When they first showed the Xbox one they demonstrated every one of the things in this article

For app and television control, I found the Kinect very useful. Actually miss it, in comparison to what’s available.

I think Kinect coupled with untethered VR like the Quest 2 could be pretty amazing. I think some people already used kinects with VR.

I like the camera for the Xbox but their mistake was in forcing it with the consumer and then made bad games, some features were nice, like recording with your voice a screen shot or even navigating your Xbox. It was useful more so as a tool instead of a gaming perk. It’s useful but not needed. It’s more so a want than a need and Microsoft/Xbox fucked that idea up. PS with their webcam, they did good knowing it’s more so a accessory instead of forced gaming perk.

Tell me again how the multiplatform strategy was supposed to fix everything. Look at your results and compare them to Nintendo, which keeps thriving with exclusives. Your loyal fans are gone. And let’s not forget the pile of IPs you purchased only to let them rot.

The worst thing is this is down from last years numbers/expectations which was down from the previous years numbers/expectations. You think about how long “down” has been a consistent part of the communication and you realize those subscriptions are what’s holding that boat together. The price cut of gamespass is still a price raise in a string of price raises. They are trying to use players to offset the missing revenue. Now call of duty is out of gamespass, which is literally WHY they bought the company. To draw people to the subscription. They realized they missed a boatload of money and that wasn’t sustainable. Now you pay for it like you would have if they never bought the company… so why buy the company? Mind you those billions still need to be paid back. Yeah it gives you a chance to say we make the biggest FPS… but the internal conversations must be brutal at high level on topics that really matter. Like revenue. Profitability. And ROI for the shopping spree.
