Even if the PS3 was hacked, buying a Blu-ray DVD burner and plenty of Blank Blu-ray discs really isn't that cheap... I think that there's still plenty of Blu-ray DVD burners that still cost more than the PS3 itself.

I would never try to hack my PS3 even if it was possible, especially not my launch 60GB PS3.

like others have said people are afraid to brick their $500 machines and BD costs far too much still. If somebody really wanted to hack it, its not that difficult. the development ps3 kits that sony sends out has a mod chip which allows it to play burned BD. take one of those apart and theres your answer. $20 for a blank BD is pretty ridiculous though, bluray burners are getting cheaper but until the disc do also i dont think 'hackers' will benefit as much from it.

And actually - strange - because Linux does give the opporunity to really dig into the hardware on a low level. There was a number of successes, but plugged quickly. So it must come down to a simple thing - good design.

Who wants to hack a system no one has. No one gonna waste an effort to hack a console that isn't selling.

The PS3 hasn't been hacked because it isn't totally run by circuitry alone. There are little elves, gnomes, fairies, and goblins inside battling it out. And everyone knows you can't hack elves, gnomes, fairies, and goblins.

because everyone knows the PSN has been hacked a couple times compromising people's credit card information. as for why the PS3 hasn't been hacked for pirated games? the X360 is already hacked and is much cheaper hardware so why would a hacker bother buying a $400 PS3 just to hack it for a couple exclusives.

Sony's consoles are just as easy to hack as anyone else. Look at the PSP. that thing is so hacked they should probably start selling the games for $5 a pop so people buy them.

lastly, the USA, home of the internets, has the highest concentration of the best hackers of any country and X360 is much more popular in the USA than the PS3.

I'd say it's already been hacked but they were waiting for Home to be released to publish the hack so they didn't start the game of hack and firmware update against Sony too early.

Hope we might see the ps3 hacked soon as Home is coming tomorrow.

As for the media, I guess it will be loaded from external hard disk or so instead of burning iso images to blank BDs as they are too expensive...

Blu-Ray rewriteable discs and Blu-Ray burner for the PC are bloody expensive. Nothing is ever unhackable and it will only take time to hack the PS3.

Whoever said that SecuROM is a good DRM my be joking because its just plain horrible and annoying.

Yu can't even call hacking the Xbox 360 and the PSP hacking, it's for kids mere child's play. The day they hack the PS3 is the day they become real hackers.

you just have to know where to look. the problem is that it's a difficult hardware hack that's lets you play backups. and it is not well known, soon enough someone will make an easier hack that will open the doors.

The Cell CPU has three security levels:

Level 2 is what the software runs on.
Level 1 is what the operating system runs on.
Level 0 is the chip's internal security and logic system, and it receives absolutely no instructions from any component in the PS3.

The fact that even SDKs used by developers can't access Level 0 shows how tight the security on PS3 is. Putting the OS on an SPE was a smart decision as well.

Hopefully PSP2 ends up using a smaller version of Cell (4 SPEs) in order to prevent piracy on that system as well.

I guess some people don't realize this but did you know that the ps3 can easily play burned bluray movies? It's the only player on the market that plays them flawlessly. Hacked forums have been praising this lil find for some time now and I know a lot of them bought the ps3 just for this reason.

Also cuz who REALLY wants to dl 50GB etc for ONE game!? But although if the PS3 would ever get hacked, im not even gonna lie, ill download my ass off with PS2 games and put em on the HDD. That would be epic

i was told from a friend that his friend can play games from memory stick duo on his ps3 60gb version and he said it can only be done on the 60gb version and u keep the games on the stick like how the psp plus that guy bought a 32gb memory stick to store hd games on it and play it from his ps3 60gb version i believe that guy cause his a hacker and he fixed my psp so many times lol am sure alot of hackers no but they just don't want to tell us people just yet once i know i will tell a few people on hear so yes it has all ready been hacked but only a few hackers no how

This gen hasn't been the best for games, last gen consoles are still out there and now there's been talk of the PS6 and Xbox Two for a year or so. Many games this gen will be ported to next gen and the cycle will continue. The re-release of the Neo Geo AES+, games on cartridge for £70 ($95), gaming is going back in time. Gaming has gone pricing mad with the high cost of games, consoles and controllers. The men and women at the top are clueless.

It’s always interesting to hear behind-the-scenes stories like this, especially involving veterans like Shuhei Yoshida and leadership figures like Jim Ryan. That said, there are usually multiple sides to decisions at that level. It could be less about not “listening” and more about differences in long-term vision for PlayStation. Yoshida played a huge role in shaping the brand, so whatever the reason, his impact is undeniable.

If true, and I'm inclined to believe it is, it goes to show that Sony lost their way when they became more western/didn't respect the PlayStation origin story. Andrew House and Jack Tretton did great work, but they also didn't try to fundamentally change the PlayStation DNA. Ryan oversaw the death of Japan Studio and a live service direction.

I miss the first three generations of PlayStation. The way they turned PS3 around, we knew they meant business. We were all worried for a bit there around launch. Eventually from 2008 they started shifting slowly. But since Yoshida was fired, it's never been the same. Still enjoy my PS5 daily. I got a backlog dating back to PS2 lol So I'm fine but new games aren't as appealing anymore.

It seems like we were thrown on to the worst timeline possible where everything is too expensive and the wrong people were put in positions that makes the world a shitty place. We could have had Shu as the head of PS but we got the shitty alternative. Same goes for everyone in power around the world. Doesn’t matter the company or country the majority of us got the shitty picks and the world is declining like never before. I do think PS can come out of this because of their studios, talent and IP but they need someone more in touch with gamers leading things like Shu was. They’re still the best place for console gaming imo but it could be much better than it is especially without the massive live service failures. The rest of the world I have a lot less hope for right now. Hopefully the pendulum swings back towards the good ole days but I’m preparing for the worst.

There's another guy who recently "retired" as CEO of another large gaming company, after doing a dismantling job as lead for well over a decade.

seems legit, the business man, fires the one who has ideas to move the business forward.

Jim Ryan is the reason why we are entering year 6 since the PS5 launch and many of us don't feel like the PS5 has gotten started as yet.

I hope going forward, we will see a return to form.
